Don your parents are awesome and I'm sure they've enjoyed (almost) every moment of watching and helping you and Mela create your new life together. Bumps are expected and laughs are required. What you both have accomplished is inspiring and I can't wait to see what's around the corner for you both. 🙏🙏🙏
I am so happy for you. I remember when you left California and have watched for so long. Watching the cats is such a wonderful thing I know how important they are I have 3 and they are wonderful most of the time until they are mad are each other or me, mine also talk to me. They are such a huge part of my life. I cried at the part where you went to say goodbye because I know that pain also. I had one that I loved for 17 years and she was also a calico my heart still hurts for her.
Loved watching you during this process. As other have stated, thank you to Don's parents. I loved watching them work with you and pass on their skills and wisdom. Learn from them and pass it on to others. Safe journeys. Peace be with you!
Hi Don. Sounds like Battires are not charging. Glad you found it was just a FUSE. Can't wait to see the travels in action. Enjoy your hard work in motion. Regards
Things are ironed out settled down you’re on your way. I can’t wait to see what your adventures will be like. You know I am living that curiously through you. You’re an awesome couple Godspeed have a great time
🎉 👏👏👏👏👏👏🎉 Wooo hoooo! Was a bit worried there when the ignition sounded like a deflating balloon 😳 Nice hair-do Mela, and well done Don for noticing! Big congrats to your parents for finally becoming empty-nesters (again) 🎉👏😂
I have watched you guys through this process and so very happy for you both. You will be living my dream and dont leave the driveway till you both feel okay baby lets roll. Gotta say you both are awesome and so looking forward to being able to live vicariously though you two. You in my prayers.
After wiping away tears…. This was the pinnacle of all that hard work AND cooperation with your folks. How grand! And yes, this is why you do “the shakedown “. Best of everything in your trip. Can’t wait for next video.
This is what we've been waiting so long for! WOW the tears I cried! You guys have held on so strong & diligently, you've faced & conquered some rough patches along the way but those are now becoming laughable, beautiful, great memories you'll look back on often I'm sure! So a new chapter begins. I imagine heading out into the unknown can be scary but this is a new season that I'm sure will be oh so beautiful & adventurous! You both have given me & many others so much inspiration & I thank you for allowing us to be a part of this journey! Praying for safe travels! 🙏🏼 YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!
So awesome to see it finally finished. Great work guys!! Looks good. I've been impatiently waiting to see the end result since the first vid when you went and picked it up.
It feels like a long time since I last saw you both, pleased that you are finally on the road, I know that you will have a few teething problems but you will overcome these issues, you have made a beautiful home and you need to be congratulated . I hope your first trip is memorable for the right reasons
I watched a few videos when you guys had a plastic coach. I have a totally different impression of you since you starting doing this conversion. I respect the "Grit" you have shown. I have to admit that i totally misjudged you during your early videos. Conrats and respect. To clarify, not that i had a bad impression of your character but just not the type of content that inspired me.
Well,...it took a long time to complete the project, but the thoroughness you both did the work with will assure you a greater peace of mind on the road. Now your new and constant problem will be as it already is : ''Where the hell should we be going now ? '' LOL - Safe and happy travel to you ''gypsy souls'' (said Mel in one of the first videos). Cought up with you when you arrived from CA to OH with the bus.
This is awesome. I have been watching the videos basically as they have come out. I could feel Mela's excitement as you left and the paint on the bus looks great in the video. The way the sun was hitting it as you left it mooring site for over all that time. Thanks for including us in your journey.
Delighted to continue to be part of your adventure, although you guys have done the heavy lifting😊. The bus looks great and as your new adventure begins so will some new challenges, but hey you guys are champions at meeting the challenges… as you say Mela ‘learning to go with the punches ‘ is what it will be about. The great times will be punctuated by some of your challenging times, that what makes our lives rich…. Excited to be part of the continued adventure … take care , keep safe ..
Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos with us,congratulations on a wonderful job you did,it looks amazing,I hope your videos will keep coming ❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍
It’s the little jobs of securing things that takes more time than you think. I can’t wait to see your on the road adventures. ❤️❤️ The emotions are to be expected, you have been so busy doing everything that you’ve not had time to think about the actual leaving.
I remember my first outing it wasn't far like home depot over night the the apprehension Was through the roof it will get easier you'll see and in a bus your in no hurry your living a semi-retired life style so enjoy the moments. You got this.
Congratulations on your achievements in building this amazing bus & overcoming the adversities you faced, I was very envious watching you pull out of the driveway, I am only 5 months into my build and have 16 months to deadline and fully understand the emotional highs & lows including the sheer determination needed to just to keep moving forward, look forward to seeing things get sorted and just remember the challenges of a shake down are to be expected and are just part of achieving the end result, good luck with the future.
I know you have a delay from recording to release but if you have not done so yet, get roadside assistance that will cover your bus, Coachnet seems to be the most recommended. Based on lessons learned I won't leave the driveway without it.
At least your now headed out. We are still building but went 400 miles one way to family twice, to test our bus travel. Its currently at family in new england while we are in our motor home in Pa. So I can get knee surgery. As soon as Im ready we head back to the bus and head out to who knows where! So exciting.
Wow I can’t believe we’ve been on this journey for 3 years! Head to Indiana, go see Scott, Bus Grease Monkey. I watch him on you tube. Excellent mechanic.. safe travels you two! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
Protip: awning are good for more than shade. They are excellent for rain protection, especially while packing up. I've packed up my trailer in the rain more than once thanks to having a good awning.
Apologies if someone has already suggested this. You might want to try to find a Little Giant Ladder. It's a telescoping ladder that folds into a 5-ft package. It's the only ladder you can fit into the front seat of a Volkswagen.
Coolness. Remember what you may have seen on BGM. There are a number of shops in your area, that aren't worth useing. Be careful. You are going to have fun.
Hope you guys have the most amazing adventures in your bus! and I'm kinda jealous Lol but that big old bus would have some real problems driving around our small country roads over here in the UK. 😂
Okay it's been years I've been awaiting on this but it was a sad day I cried yes I did I hope you all get everything going and stay on the road and don't go off of it LOL I hope you make it to your campsite just remember all of us is with you so with that being said I hope you have a wonderful and a very blessed day you riding down the road going to your destination God bless you take care but just remember I'm there with you love you guys can't wait to see where you all end up at God bless you
Congrats 👏 👏 although it would appear that the start may not go as planned. Its been a long time since you all started this build. Hopefully the issues are quickly resolved. I will try and keep an eye for you on the road. But I don't believe your vlogs are current time. However I will keep an eye as I run around the country
What a wonderful adventure and beautiful story. You both have a gift for storytelling. Electrical tip: replace those single-use fuses with mini resettable circuit breakers. They plug right into the blade connecter slots and work just like home circuit breakers. As an aside, might want to consider booking a visit to the wonderful folks at Bus Grease Monkeys in TN when in the neighbourhood for a thorough checkup. If anything needs replacing, they encourage owners to pitch in in exchange for a discount on the labor.
Hi h5mind thank you for the tip! I had never heard of those. Will have to look them up. I think the bus freeze monkey only works on 71 and 92 series buses (?) I remember something about that watching his videos
@@Rehabit8 We're planning our own bus purchase one day so I've been a religious viewer of both your and Bus Grease Monkey's channels. AFAIK, Scott Crosby (the owner) works on pretty much anything bus-related. I imagine you have a four-stroke Cat, Cummins or Detroit Series 60. I've seen several later model MCI and Prevost go through their shop. BTW, they strongly recommend making sure whichever tire shop you use does NOT use those big 1,000 foot pound impact guns to do the final tighten of the lug nuts- they're only meant for breaking lugs free, not cranking them back on (unless, of course, they re- set the gun to your particular torque setting). The did a recent episode where a shop cranked on the lugs so tightly to a customer's bus it stripped lugs and even stretched the studs, rendering them unsafe. Luckily Scott caught it and the shop replaced all the lugs and studs. Hope this helps! P.s., did you include a torque wrench among all those amazing tools?
Protip: if you get delayed and can't make your destination, at least get the RV on the road. You can always pull over and sleep in it somewhere. The act of getting on the road always turns stuff up. The sooner you try to leave the sooner you force yourself to pack *everything* and the sooner you find travel issues, if there are going to be any.
The battery's or starter just thinking with you bless your heart's been there and done that anyway i know you guys got this you will get it going love watching and i love you guys so god bless
Well, if you guys are coming through North CentralTexas and need a place to stop and do some maintenance send me a note. We live in the Country about 25 miles north of Fort Worth. (11 miles west of Texas Motor Speedway) I've got a huge shop behind the house, and a dump station, plus a 50, 30 and plenty of 15 amp pulg ins you can hook up to. The shop is full of tools. I am currently rebuilding my 1989 Fleetwood Linited Class A. New Drivetrain, interior, solar panels and repaint once it's all roadworthy. Mela and my wife would get along good with their excersizing. (Wife just left for Yoga with her girlfriends.) We are retired so you won't be an inconvience at all. We'd love to see the Bus up close. And our cats would love to play with yours. Lots of rabbits and stuff to chase....... So keep us in mind.
Hi Curtis, sounds like you have a wonderful shop and a big project on your hands! Thanks for the kind offer and we would love to stay in touch for possible visiting when we pass through Texas Email us at rehabiteight@gmail.com so we can connect :)

Hi Blake, if you have the same configuration as us the fuse set to keep an on if probalems arise are located in the batter bay on the front angle. There are several there for the engine control system computer (EcM) and if any of those blow you’ll have all kinds of issues

Just remember, adversity strengthens character, which takes a lifetime... the only thing that kills poison ivy is brake fluid the only thing I know... if you go north just be aware and I have been saying this all summer we're going to get an early winter so you don't want to get stuck up north in that just keep an eyeball on your weather I know most of the bus bills stay to the South or into the desert in Arizona around quartzite in the winter.. as with anything in life you have to roll with the punches never plan ahead 3/4 of what's great in life is stumbled upon by accident so just go with it
I'm so glad I found your video it's so cool and interesting. Enjoy each other every day every moment every second, things can be gone in a flash. God bless you guys on your journey and everything you do in life I will be keeping an eye on your videos, and thank you for showing the world out there that there are good man and wife. And if you're not married well I think it's time. LOL love only comes around once
Bon Voyage? Spelling? Have a great time, life is short, don't play with ur dream, take it and use it just what u both are doing now safe travel. Did u not think of buying an electric bicycle whenever u stop at the camp ground u could cycle in the town or city rather than using the bus?
Wiley myself and my wife are looking to buying a bus and turning it into a place to live and travel the nation. Do you know who may have one that they are willing to get rid of one that we can work on ourselves with maybe a little help.
Congratulations! Your dream realized, now on to your new life!
Thank you! Woohoo!!!!
Look at that beautiful 🚌
Best of the Best of Luck to you all!

Bon Voyage?
