THANK YOU for an amazing tour of Willow! Loved your Thrift Shop! There is no hardware store in my area of Missouri that still has nail bins like that, was amazed that yours does! Blessings to all who read this for a Glorious Holiday Season! 💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏
Your video popped up in my YT feed...what a lucky day fir me! Love this video, I agree with you about the hardware store....brought back great memories for me going to the local hardware with my dad and buying nails, etc from the bin! Thanks for all of your hard work to shoot, edit and post this video! Merry Christmas to you and your family! P.S. You have a new subscriber!
Oh yeah!!! Glad you found us! Thank you for watching. I just love this town as you can see So many old fashioned ways are still here today in this small town.
That food grinder at the thrift store is just like mine. Was my grandma's good price. I've ground lots of horseradish on it ..the nails and scale at the hardware store makes me smile. That's how I learned to count to 100. For inventory at the family lumber yard we had bins of nails, we would count out 100 nails, they would weigh them and and then way the bins full to calculate the total.
Love it! I wish all these older ways could just not change with time ... that's why I soak in the simplicity of these stores as much as I can. There is such beauty in simple things!
The nail bin assortment and scales brings back a lot of memories. I worked part time at a lumber/hardware store 50+ years ago when I was in college and the boss would have a list of things to do when got there. I put a lot of boxes of nails in those bins. Each separate nail type "hole" can hold a hundred or more pounds of nails so the whole thing is really heavy.
I live in Snohomish county north of Seattle. Friday, January 3, I paid 9.97 for 18 eggs at my local Walmart. Most of the stores in my area have no eggs at all.
Oh awesome!!! Yes it's great here for sure... Our kids just went to a Christmas community dinner last night and Brady played the piano as Santa showed up for the little kids!!! So cute.
Oh well thank you for watching us!!! It's a very cold and beautiful place in this world...very wild here. I just love our little town and how old fashioned some stores are. I don't see that character when I shop in larger cities
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. I have a fascination with Alaska, but have never been there. Such an interesting video. Like spending a day there. You and your family have a wonderful and blessed Christmas, and a joyful New Year! Your new friend, Alan, in Columbus OH.
Hello there this was a really interesting video I love to see your small towns and compare prices thanks for taking us we haves lot of thrift shops here in UK some good bargains your children are a credit to you well mannered and lovely too bless you take care ❤👍👍👋
I am glad this video came across my feed watching on tv, really enjoyed seeing this trip, my fav was the thrift shop along with the scenery you opened with👍
Oh thank you so much. Yes that shrift shop has old treasures in it....I just love seeing all the simple, old fashioned items in there... Never gets boring to me. Thanks for watching us!
Well thanks for joining us!!! Love the hardware store. We also filmed in Millers Market yesterday in Houston. That's a fun place too, old fashioned feel in there. Hoping for another video out soon. Thanks for watching us!
Hi, I love this video. I am moving to the area with my best friend in 2026 and we are in the process of building a cabin now. I love seeing the tour of Willow. Thanks for posting. I've started a UA-cam channel also and really can't wait to get it going strong up there. You have a new subscriber.
The hardware is ment to b weighed without the bag,, the shape of the scale tray is so u can pour the hardware into the bag, try it,, it's alot easier 👍
I bet you are... it's quite a magical place on earth. Sometimes the scenery is so perfect it feels " fake"! Lol Gotta love it here. It is nice getting a break from bugs in the winter ❄️❄️❄️
i live the boonies by myself off grid love 💗 my choice of lifestyle my nearest town is around 15 mikes away actually its a small village any way there is a hardware store there and i actually thought id be the only girl who loves those darn nail bins 😂 love the "old" ways they even have the original squeaky wooden floor and the very old red soda machine with the old time bottles cant get better than that! yall have a very 🎁 Christmas ⛄
Oh yes you are speaking my language now!! I wish old fashioned things would never change. They are so simple and they have worked for many years In my eyes- newer is not always better Thanks for watching us!!!
I am loving your channel. Your photo of your local True Value is what caught my attention. True Value is no longer and my company has switched to Ace Hardware product. Our store is over 100 years old. We are becoming more of a retail feel. It was nice to see the bulk mail bins and that everything was still hand priced. I wish my store was still like yours.
Rather awesome! Watching from Boone,nc. I cannot believe what I saw on your show. The digitor calculator. Please let me know if we can get this to Nc. I know I sound crazy but I have not seen one since the 80’s and nobody else knows what I’m talking about. Thank you for the great video.
Ha! I know, awesome right??? Let me check again when I go to the thrift store next and I will get back to you ...it could be 1-2 weeks but I will check!
I have that calculator for you! Watch our most recent video!... We can send it to you, and we will need your address first You can email info to homesteadlivingalaska@gmail.com We can send it out next week for you!
What a cute town, I would love to live by a small town like that, the town I live by has become way to city-fied way to many people moving out here from the city and when I moved out here I only had 4 neighbors now all the lots have people building or doing shed conversions and it’s no longer the rual country side but at 62 starting over farther out isn’t in the cards for me since hubby said nope , we got it all our little homestead a mile from lake for fishing and no high tax or HOA to say I can’t raise chickens, goats, what ever I please.
Well, it sounds like you have a little slice of heaven right there! ...sounds like it has changed though. I think every small town is getting bigger in some way. Sounds like you have freedom to be self sufficient and that's awesome. So many restrictions these days, it's crazy!!! Thanks for watching!
OMG I am so happy that I am sitting down... You have to be rich to live there. I thought the USA was blown out, You all win the first class for the price of food
Your opening drone video is great. Wow! Gas where you went is only .15 more than in my Florida town. I’ll take that over AK food prices!😂 I prefer Ace or True Value over big box stores. Our TV store closed some time ago. HD hurt them bad. I think Do It Best hardware bought one of those stores in areas. What are a majority of items in your thrift store? No farmers market now?🤣 Does Willow have a Christmas parade? We had ours here in Florida tonight. How did Ruby do? Till next time.
Ruby loves her pup cups! She is doing good. The majority of items at the thrift shop are clothes, household items and toys It's a great spot. Nice staff too. Thanks for watching, we are loving our drone so far! Thanks for sharing the price of gas in Florida... Yes AK food prices are high in smaller towns for sure
I live in a small town in Pa..it seems that all small towns across America look the same…with just a few adjustments…there all quaint …and sweet…there must have been a blue print in the beginning 😂😂
Yes! I agree. I wish I had more history or pictures of the town before it was developed...that would be neat to showcase too ... Thanks for watching us!
Another great video!! I love watching the family doing things together! I also love the picturesque beginnings of your videos and all the history you share with us. I was wondering. Can you drink straight from willow creek? Or is there a lot of iron in it? Also, have you ever tried panning that river? Just curious if you could find any gold flakes? Happiness to all of you! 💜
Hello there! Thanks for watching us. Probably not drink from the creek ... salmon spawn in it and yes iron for sure in there... it is that brown color. Isn't that a gorgeous color mix of the creek? Green, white and brown....ahhh...so gorgeous and natural! Hudson has actually panned for gold in there...and yes I think he has actually found some flakes! There is a rich history of gold mining in Willow Creek.... Hey that can be another video!.... Thanks for watching us! ❤️
Small towns are great as long as you are rich, healthy, young and happy to live a very simple…primitive…life. No doctors, libraries, book stores, municipal services…like police and fire. One lives with daily hardship and hazards. Few people take a vacation living in the bush for a week. Beautiful? Yes. Uninhabited? Yes
You do realize that (a) Willow is w/in the Anchorage region, which means there's plenty of doctors, libraries, book stores, etc., in the region and (b) what is it to you where people live? Who put you in charge, Armand?
This is why we walked away from the comfortable suburban lifestyle...by choice. No going back. Once you get out, you realize many things.. Yep. There are a few items that are similar to Anchorage Alaska prices out here. However because it's so far away, the cost of gas, time, etc....they probably have to account for that. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄
90% of all eggs, steak, bread, potato chips, tomatoes, onions, fuel, medicines, toilet paper, window glass, paint, stoves, snowshoes, underwear, eyeglasses, soap, bandaids, motor oil, chainsaws, popcorn, fish hooks, rifle ammunition, and everything else has to be shipped in to Alaska. If the shipments stop, Alaskans start kicking the bucket. The only worse place is Hawaii, where 95% has to be shipped in.
