    That food grinder at the thrift store is just like mine. Was my grandma's good price. I've ground lots of horseradish on it ..the nails and scale at the hardware store makes me smile. That's how I learned to count to 100. For inventory at the family lumber yard we had bins of nails, we would count out 100 nails, they would weigh them and and then way the bins full to calculate the total.

    • @ShoppinginAlaska
      @ShoppinginAlaska  28 днів тому

      Love it! I wish all these older ways could just not change with time ... that's why I soak in the simplicity of these stores as much as I can.
      There is such beauty in simple things!

      The nail bin assortment and scales brings back a lot of memories. I worked part time at a lumber/hardware store 50+ years ago when I was in college and the boss would have a list of things to do when got there. I put a lot of boxes of nails in those bins. Each separate nail type "hole" can hold a hundred or more pounds of nails so the whole thing is really heavy.

    What a cute town, I would love to live by a small town like that, the town I live by has become way to city-fied way to many people moving out here from the city and when I moved out here I only had 4 neighbors now all the lots have people building or doing shed conversions and it’s no longer the rual country side but at 62 starting over farther out isn’t in the cards for me since hubby said nope , we got it all our little homestead a mile from lake for fishing and no high tax or HOA to say I can’t raise chickens, goats, what ever I please.

    Your opening drone video is great. Wow! Gas where you went is only .15 more than in my Florida town. I’ll take that over AK food prices!😂 I prefer Ace or True Value over big box stores. Our TV store closed some time ago. HD hurt them bad. I think Do It Best hardware bought one of those stores in areas. What are a majority of items in your thrift store? No farmers market now?🤣 Does Willow have a Christmas parade? We had ours here in Florida tonight. How did Ruby do? Till next time.

    Another great video!! I love watching the family doing things together! I also love the picturesque beginnings of your videos and all the history you share with us. I was wondering. Can you drink straight from willow creek? Or is there a lot of iron in it? Also, have you ever tried panning that river? Just curious if you could find any gold flakes? Happiness to all of you! 💜

    • @ShoppinginAlaska
      @ShoppinginAlaska  Місяць тому

      Hello there! Thanks for watching us.
      Probably not drink from the creek ... salmon spawn in it and yes iron for sure in there... it is that brown color. Isn't that a gorgeous color mix of the creek? Green, white and brown....ahhh...so gorgeous and natural!
      Hudson has actually panned for gold in there...and yes I think he has actually found some flakes!
      There is a rich history of gold mining in Willow Creek.... Hey that can be another video!....

    Small towns are great as long as you are rich, healthy, young and happy to live a very simple…primitive…life. No doctors, libraries, book stores, municipal services…like police and fire. One lives with daily hardship and hazards. Few people take a vacation living in the bush for a week. Beautiful? Yes. Uninhabited? Yes

      Everything has to be flown in or shipped from the lower 48. Alaska and Hawaii grocery prices have to factor in the shipping costs so they are always more expensive.

      Yep. There are a few items that are similar to Anchorage Alaska prices out here. However because it's so far away, the cost of gas, time, etc....they probably have to account for that.
      Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄

    90% of all eggs, steak, bread, potato chips, tomatoes, onions, fuel, medicines, toilet paper, window glass, paint, stoves, snowshoes, underwear, eyeglasses, soap, bandaids, motor oil, chainsaws, popcorn, fish hooks, rifle ammunition, and everything else has to be shipped in to Alaska. If the shipments stop, Alaskans start kicking the bucket. The only worse place is Hawaii, where 95% has to be shipped in.
