    As a psychologist, I think this was just excellent. He is wise. So spot on. Btw, hope he is ok following the loss he described. Great guy.

    We are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about the meaning and value of psychotherapy from this gifted, generous psychoanalyst. He explains what therapy is in humane, non-technical ways, and should inspire all who are curious about psychotherapy to consider beginning their own journey.

    It moves the unconscious into the conscious, causing and awakening (or breakthrough). Because the unconscious will control your life.

    I feel I need psychoanalysis , not CBT (or even DBT even though I have BPD mother thus BPD traits/BPD itself) because I always ask these "why" questions about myself and everything... and that I feel deeply this stuff is all rooted in childhood...
    CBT is more about that immediate symptom alleviation, but not truth, in my opinion...

    • @zenwuju9062
      @zenwuju9062 7 років тому +10

      Agree. CBT seems more like a quick fix that doesn't dig deep to the root of problems.

      Chris Crepon Do people ask you if you’re a Nazi with your swastika icon? Is it worth the hassle explaining it is an ancient peace symbol? If I were your shrink I’d start our conversation there, talking about your choice of this controversial symbol.

    Can psychotherapy be used on people who aren't anxious or depressed for self development? Or does it only focus on the past?

    • @LaurynasRagaisis

      I'd think psychoanalysis would work much better. Therapy is for healing purposes anyway.

    • @fufala84
      @fufala84 5 років тому

      Yes, it can be used for that, but the answers for understanding one's self are many times in the past to a certain extent too. :)

    To me, psychoanalysis always sounds very abstract. No offense.

    • @jackdawcaw4514
      @jackdawcaw4514 8 років тому

      +Malcolm Z Can you explain what is abstract about it to you?

    • @krieskteyan
      @krieskteyan 8 років тому

      Yeah for me it seems pseudoscience and not really a full pledge of scientific investigation

    • @jackdawcaw4514
      @jackdawcaw4514 8 років тому +7

      Of course it's not scientific. How could it be scientific being as subjective as it is. That doesn't disqualify it though. People unfortunately equate non scientific with 'nonsense', which just goes to show their simple thinking.

    • @malcolmz2360
      @malcolmz2360 8 років тому +2

      I wouldn't say it's nonsense. If it helps people, it's good. Some people may need or want a very close relationship to their therapist with 3-5 sessions per week. But I personally think that CBT and/or mindfulness can be more effective in a shorter time span. Although from personal experience, CBT doesn't put a lot of emphasis on emotions and personal (especially childhood) experiences. Schema or Gestalt therapy might be better for people who want to dig a little deeper and face their feelings, not just their thoughts.

    • @jackdawcaw4514
      @jackdawcaw4514 8 років тому +6

      Many scientific studies have actually shown that, while people who were in CBT tended to lose some of their therapeutic benefits after they ended therapy (and many even receded back into their problems), for psychodynamic therapy people tended the keep on improving even long after therapy. That has to do with certain mechanisms that promote self understanding, self questioning, self insight, that are developed in therapy. These keep you reflective and aware of yourself, continually helping you grow emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically.

    Carl Gustav Jung often cheated on his wife and he even slept with some of his patients.
    His son says that for awhile his father Jung would sleep with a revolver under his pillow in case he decided to blow his brains out. ( Information suppressed for as long as possible by Jungian analysts ) Not surprisingly his son experienced trauma on account of this.
    Sigmund Freud was so terrified of death he would actually become faint when the topic was mentioned. Jung reports how Freud accused Jung of wishing him dead for raising the subject .
    These people are a scream 🤣
