I have been using that stringing method for years (some call it "one up, one down"). I prefer it to the self-locking method because nothing pokes upwards and also because it makes it easy to remove strings and put them back.

I hate that loop lock method, it’s unnecessary and a nightmare to change strings.

I have always done something similar . The Less winds needed on the Tuner peg , the more stable the String will be and the quicker it will stretch in .

Absolutely - equally though, not enough will cause problems. I used to see that a lot on students guitars.

@@ScottPoleyMusic . I also did a Tie-Off . Half turn Opposite direction with the String and Kinked under the start of the First wind On . The more the String tightens , the tighter the Lock .

I’ve tried that too John but found that it’s more awkward to replace a string quickly in the heat of battle of a gig.
