Yeah, that's a plasma gun, you do NOT want to fire that continuously... or occasionally... or at all, if you can help it. Very unstable piece of tech. It looked like it was overheating so... yeah, I'd drop it too. Or better yet, throw it at the enemy.
This has got to be one of the best assessments of plasma weapons that I've ever read.
they make fantastic grenades
Welcome to Warhammer 40k, where our Plasmagrenades are also able to shoot xD
Whatever you do, don't roll a 1.
Well the plasma pistol only has like 6 charges or so before needing to reload. ...You can on some patterns fire all the changes at once; but that is usually considered a bad idea (or the best idea).

@@andrewames247 Eh, compared to Terminator Armor? Also gotta keep in mind that the Marines themselves have almost as much as that weight in pure muscle.
@@lucastaylor643 Also consider that the armour is connected directly to the bones and is provided with servomotors. Basically much of the weight rests on the structure of the armor itself, so this explain why an heavy object like this "fits like a glove" (as written in the Codex).
@@Cyberpunk2024 Wasnt there also the aspect of Training needed for it? Because of the Servomotors and the connection to its wearer tha tthe Armor reacts. Basically "i wanna shoot that target" and the targeting System will automatically raise the Arm and line up the shot. Trying to "fight that" leading to broken arms and worse.
Or was that Terminator Armor? Long ago that i had read something along those lines and cant remember anymore for what Armor it exactly was.
@@kaitan4160 Standard power armour is like a second skin for most marines with minimal training. Terminator armour takes more training as it is closer to operating a vehicle. This is from one of the Dark Angels books where due to battlefield knowledge some members were moved to the Ravenwing, and then the Deathwing, and had to learn to even walk and then stop walking in Terminator armour.

Astartes have a bunch of additional organs, like the second heart, third lung, new glands, their rib cage is a solid bone carapace with no space between ribs. and also black carapace - literally the second skin under the normal one, it contains power armor connectors and connected directly to the nervous system. And also their power armor contain synthetic muscles which make their already strong bodies even stronger
Its not sold bone its more like a harder stronger cartilage in-between the bones if it was completely solid they would struggle to breath
@@venlil Missed the part about having three lungs I see ;) Seriously though, the augmentation process makes quite sure that the resulting marine has grown large enough overall to fit all their internals in a manner that lets them function at full capacity. Not that they stay shiny forever..
In addition, they have biological enhancements that allow them to fight off poisons, diseases, and even regenerate somewhat. Finally, they go through training that lets them ignore pain, and indoctrination that teaches them that they are the best of the Emperor's soldiers, so morale is not a problem. They seldom break in combat unless they are facing truly horrendous opponents, they trust each other implicitly, and, as the Emperor said about them as he was founding the chapters, "they shall know no fear,"
They ribcage is not one solid piece, more like plates on top of one another, but yes

So, Brother, wellcome to the Warhammer 40k Universe, the most grimdark of sci-fi rivaled only by the SCP, the Universe where there is only war, and memes :D
The 5 guys, the main cast are a bunch of genetically engineered super soldiers, like Halo Spartans but on crack and steroids and modifications went much further and made them beyond reasonable. That's why they are able to move so fast while wheighing around half a ton. In fact they should be even faster, the author of this video was quiet conservative at estimating their abilities. They aren't that cautious because they have an important mission, judging by the guy in the hood that got his head punched off, he was a member of an Imperial Inquisition, which means that mission was an absolute top priority and that even Astartes might be expendable on it.
The two guys with power shields, are psykers (read "space magicians", yeah it's complicated there are daemons in this Unverse also, so yeah), psychically sensitive individuals that source their power from a parallel hellish dimension called warp (which is filled with daemons and is hard to comprehend), which is also used as means of FTL in this Universe.
The guy in the hood, an inquisitorial psyker was overhearing the conversation between the two spheres, which seemingly are a pair of an incredibly psychically strong aliens, who most likely started a rebellion on one of human worlds. Their dialogue goes like this:
Spiked sphere: Who's here? I have failed.
Caged sphere: We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch.
Spiked sphere: You must return. Break your seal.
Caged sphere: It's impossible.
Spiked sphere: We will never survive.
Caged sphere: You must. Take them!
And the inquisitorial psyker gives a warning to the veteran sergeant, before getting possessed by the caged sphere, and gets rapidly terminated because possessions are usually ending up in huge catastrophies that at some point involve warp rifts and planet-wide daemon invasions. In the end the sphere tries to take the Astartes whith itself and escape through the warp (that colourful shot, that was that hellish dimension) but it gets attacked by something, probably a daemon, or a psychic backlash from another sphere being killed while possessing the inquisitorial psyker. The astartes where randomly thrown out of the warp on some unknown dead world with some eldritch giant corpses.
This is the best animation on the subject, made by one guy, with some help.
I would recommend you a whole lot of videos to better understand Warhammer:
"Every single Warhammer 40k (WH40k) Faction Explained | Part 1"
"Every single Warhammer 40k (WH40k) Faction Explained | Part 2"
The two above are the easiest thing to watch to get a very general idea about WH40K and are quiet fun to react to.
"Exploring Warhammer 40k: Creating a Space Marine" To better understand what the Astartes are.
"THE EMPEROR OF MAN [1] The Rise of Humanity | WARHAMMER 40,000 Lore / History"
"THE EMPEROR OF MAN [2] Heresy & The Imperium - WARHAMMER 40,000 Lore / History"
The last two videos are to long, and feel more like an actual lecture to make a reaction to, but they are really insightful and help understand the very backstory of the Universe.

This might be a bit of a long one.
An Astartes or Space Marine will be "recruited" when he is no older than 12. During the process of turning a boy into one of the Emperor's Avenging Angels he will be indoctrinated (read brainwashed) have multiple surgeries including (but not limited to) multiple brain surgeries, a second heart and third lung implanted,an organ that allows you to gain some of the memories of anyone or anything you eat and finally the Black Carapace. Which is where you peel the skin off and put a mesh where the skin was before putting the skin back. This allows the Astartes to essentially move as if his power armour was a second skin. Meaning that they can actually move faster in Their Armour then they can out of it. The true kicker being all this is supposed to be done without anesthetic of any kind(so fully conscious and no painkillers). It could be argued that a single chapter of 1000 Battle Brothers could conquer modern day Earth to give you some idea of how insanely powerful they are.
They are also pretty much immortal until they die in battle.

More accurately 100 marines and a couple Regiments of Imperial Guard, But the Marines get all the Credit.
@@tanith117 Yeah. One thing marines can not and were never intended to do is hold ground/occupy territory. They're a scalpel to cripple the enemy for the Imperial Army.
This depends. You ussually have an invasion force of Imperial Guard with Mechanicus Skitarii/Servitors and Navy Armsmen bolstering them as reserves with either Imperial Assasins, Inqusitorial agents, some nobles private elite task force or a handful of Knight mechs solving all the ongoing issues of the invasion. Marines are called in if the planet has to either fall quickly or is a heavyily occupied world.
In such cases you wouldn't see a battle company of 100 marines. Marines could drop in to bolster an invasion force in which case there will be a couple squads which is what we actually see in Astartes. If marines would have to actually frontline a planet, they'd get at least 2 companies with a lot of support from quality IG walking directly behind them to secure ground.
@@Sorain1 so they're pretty much real life soldiers and marines just on every ped known to man?
@@curtismcpsycho8212 If the marines were indoctrinated religious fanatics that have been genetically enhanced and have cybernetics added before loading them up in powered armor and with full auto RPG weaponry. IRL Soldiers and marines are more comparable to the Imperial Guard, which has plenty of elite formations and special forces of it's own. The world simply doesn't have anything comparable to the obscene expense per soldier of space marines.
"I would ASSUME they're gonna be the good guys?"
Oh my sweet summer child.... there are no good guys.
Edit: The one thing you could relate too wasn't the reason those two set their bolters (the rifles) on the rail. They went full auto and held the barrel down against the railing. Think of all the other feats of strength and skill they did, then realize when those two started firing, they got pushed back several inches before pushing forward into the kickback.
They did that to have a stable base so they COULD go full auto.
Also, you commented on these guys not being cautious at all. Did you not notice the sheer ease with which they've ripped through all opposition? One guy has a cracked lens on his helmet, the other has a few small scorches on his armor.
And from The God Emperor of Mankind himself:
"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear."
They literally do not know fear. Fear is for mortals. The Men of the Adeptus Astartes can live hundreds, even thousands of years before feeling the slightest tell tale signs of age. The Horus Heresy began in the year 31st Millennium, 31,000s. Warhammer 40K happens, obviously, in the 41st Millennium, and there are Space Marines still alive that were part of the Heresy. Quite literally "Service Unto Death." And sometimes even not then.
Sorry, I'm geeking out. Warhammer Lore is my weakness :B
The correct term is "Adeptus Astartes". But among the average imperial citizen the Astartes are called Space Marines. They are the peak of human warfare. Genetically optimized and equiped with the finest armor and weapons available to a fighting force for the emperors holy will, the super warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are usually the spearhead in crisis situations that require quick reactions. In contrast to the Imperial Guard, the warriors of the Adeptus Astartes are organized in independent groups that are usually only referred to as "Chapters". Since the emperor has a status as a divine being, the entire structure of the imperium is a religion in and of itself.

Just a small interesting note, in the scene where our main man takes off his helmet and we see his face, the three studs above his eye are not cybernetics. They are military badges, each stud signifies that the marine has completed 100 years of service.
You wouldn't want to fight someone built like that in power armour who had been at it for 300 years. It would be like trying to fight a god.
"So im gonna assume the big guys are the good guys"
We don't do that here.
As far as part 4 where he charges in and drops his weapon there's a few explanations.
1. Standard weaponry usually loses out to Psychic powers. Astartes know this and so we're forced to use alternative and more drastic tactics as they were in a rush.
2. He dropped his plasma pistol after firing it twice for a couple reasons I think. Firstly, Plasma weaponry (blue stuff, not or red lasers) is Extremely powerful, if two blasts of that pistol on close succession didn't bring him down, nothing in those Space Marines current arsenal would. Unfortunately I believe they overheat and become unusable pretty quickly, he dropped it to free up his off hand.
3. The cross-fire was primarily distraction and time-buying tactics. They're not worried about line of fire, they have decades of not centuries of experience and would never accidentally commit friendly fire in a relatively controlled scenario like this. They needed to attempt to keep the psychers distracted for as long as possible.
The hooded guy with the "I" emblem, who gets his head punched in, is from a group that is cross between the CIA, DIA, and Spanish Inquisition; aptly named "The Inquisition." I was a young infantry private the first time I encountered 40k, it's been almost 30 years of fandom now. Used to have Blood Angels emblem on the inside of my helmet. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
The emblem inside ur helmet is such an awesome touch...
The reason he dropped the gun is because this is the kind of gun that EXPLODES upon the third consecutive shot... Or sometimes the second... Rarely on the first one... Rarely.

Marines are shock troops - super human warrior monks raised from childhood with extreme training, loads of augmented organs and hypnotic schooling so they grow up HUGE and tough. They wear heavy powered armour that's interfaced with their implants that moves with them so theyre basically man size light tanks and the standard Bolter they use fires a rocket assisted explosive round, which is why they fire single accurate shots over 'spray and pray'
"Doesn't look like these rebels are the good guys here"
40k: "good guys? is that a new type of heresy? "
I love how you always say "when you get off work", meanwhile I just woke up
So true I be watching these when I should be sleeping
Basically those Marines are wearing a modern MBTs amount of armour that is powered by a miniature fusion reactor. Said armour is connected directly to their minds and bodies so its as if it were a second skin, it will aim their weapons for them, it can effectively puts a Battlefield Management System inside their heads so they know where all their friendlies are in relation to them, the local terrain, where the bad dudes are, even how much ammo everyone has left. It let's them run at about 45mph/60kph for _hours_ at a time and sprint up to about 60mph/100kmh for short bursts. It protects them from poison gas, the vacuum and freezing temperatures of space, the pressure of the deep oceans, the heat of a volcano, and everything in between. They can see through walls, hear and smell sparrows fart from 5 miles away and might even be able to see it too. It ups their already stupidly fast reactions and multiplies their strength to the point where they can hold several tons one handed.
Oh and they have 0.75 calibre battle rifles that fire high explosive armour piercing rocket grenades that detonate inside their targets and frequently use what are effectively chainsaws in the form of a sword because they know that watching your friends get butchered by an 8ft tall superhuman that is nearly impossible to kill for the average person is a way more effective weapon than just shooting everyone.
The Adeptus Astartes, otherwise known as the Space Marines of the Imperium of Man, are genetically enhanced super soldiers handpicked from childhood to join an elite fighting force dedicated to the safeguarding of mankind from the horrors of the galaxy within the 42nd Millenium.
They have been sorted into subfactions known as Chapters, based upon the original geneseed, or DNA, of the 9 Loyalist Primarchs, the demigod founders of the 9 Space Marine Legions that stayed loyal to the Imperium during a cataclysmic era known as the Horus Heresy, but that’s a story for another day.
These are the 9 Legions that stayed loyal to the Imperium and broken up into Chapters:
The First - The Dark Angels: Represented by dark green armour and a winged longsword, they hunt their traitor brothers relentlessly until the end of time. They excel in all aspects of war and love plasma weaponry. Their Deathwing Veteran company wear bone white and their Ravenwing Fast Attack company wear black.
The Fifth - The White Scars: Represented by their white and red armour and a lightning bolt, they are heavily influenced by the Mongols and are known for their use of fast vehicles such as bikes and land speeders.
The Sixth - The Space Wolves: Represented by their blueish grey power armour and a wolf head, they are eternally afflicted by the Wulfen curse which turns them into savage beasts. They are CQC specialists influenced by the Vikings.
The Seventh - The Imperial Fists: Represented by caution yellow power armour and a raised fist, they are defensive siege experts with an expertise in marksmanship and architectural fortifications.
The Ninth - The Blood Angels: Represented by red power armour and a winged blood drip, they are brutal and unforgiving in their aerial shock assaults and are at constant risk of falling to the Black Rage, turning them into bloodthirsty beserkers.
The Tenth - The Iron Hands: Represented by grimy black power armour and a mechanical gauntlet, they trudge slowly towards their opponents, tanking damage and hitting back with their own. They are stricken with a compulsion to replace all of their body parts with cybernetics.
The Thirteenth - The Ultramarines: Represented by blue power armour and an upside down Omega symbol, they are a workhorse jack of all trades chapter who have managed to become the strongest thanks to poor writing.
The Eighteenth - The Salamanders: Represented by green and black armour with a dragon head, they are heavily decorated with draconic trinkets like skulls and scales. They love flame weapons, blacksmithing and protecting the innocent.
The Nineteenth - The Raven Guard: Represented by flat black power armour and a raven motif, they represent the more rational and logically minded individuals, using stealth, subterfuge, guerilla warfare and assassination.
One of the best explanations of the loyalist first founding.
That last wide shot is way more epic than most people realize. The main character pops in and you see the corpses sitting in chairs. If you look closely those pillars around the valley are the same as the one he's standing on and the rest of his team are teleported to their own column. You can see the flashes on each and one of them falling to the valley floor. He's standing on a column that is a good 400' above the valley floor. That makes the closest corpse about a quarter mile away.

Everything you just said is correct!
If you’d like to know more about this whole series I would recommend “every warhammer 40k faction explained” by bricky. Also to answer your question about them being agile yes they are linked to their armor as well as being genetically enhanced.
Astartes is one of the first media that shows properly how fast those hulking space marines can move. They are super heavy and big, but also have enhanced reflexes and such.
The Adeptus Astartes or more commonly known as Space Marines, are basically the elite Special Forces of the Imperium in the Warhammer 40k universe. They're genetically & cybernetically enhanced super-soldiers with superhuman strenght, speed, agility, reflexes and intelligence. Don't be fooled by their bulky armor, they can move like Spiderman with it, because it's linked to their nervous system. It is said that: '' Something that big & bulky as a Space Marine, shouldn't normaly move that fast.''
They have 2 hearts, 3 lungs and over a dozen other extra organs, that give them their abillities (which are implanted in a painful and extremely dangerous procedure, most candidates don't survive it or turn into mutants.) They can turn off, part of their brain in order to be able to stay awake & fight for days, can breath in toxic atmospheres, can eat & digest food that would kill a normal human ( The Astartes of the Space Wolves brew a beverage called ''Fenrisian Ale'' that will literally melt your intestines if you drink it, for them it's like drinking Kraft Beer or something). They're are resilient af, don't feel pain and don't age like normal humans. Dante, the ''Chaptermaster'' (commander) of the Blood Angels is over 1,000 years old and still kicking ass, Marneus Calgar, the Chaptermaster of the Ultramarines, lost all 4 limps in battle. Not only did he survived, but he had them replaced with bionic limps and continues to fight and whoop ass.
They're organised in ''Chapters'' of 1000 Astartes, which are basically fully equipped, autonomous armies, complete with their own fleets of battleships, armored land vehicles etc.
Every Chapter has his own traditions, culture, colors, battlecry and even ''specialty'' for a specific type of warfare.
For example, the Imperial Fists are experts in siege warfare & great engineers. The Ravenguard are experts in infiltration & guerilla warfare. The Space Wolves & Black Templars are experts for close quarter combat. The Salamanders favor incendiery weapons & are great weaponsmiths/armorers. The White Scars favor ''blitzkrieg'' tactics and mobillity. The Ultramarines are extremely tactical and properly the closest to modern day special forces. The Iron Hands use lots of armored vehicles & use lots of bionic implants.
They're ''the Emperor's Angels of Death'' and if you ever face them in battle, prey to whatever god you worship, that they will kill you quick.
It was just one guy who made this 40k video.
As for the suits in Halo you were talking about they plug into a port on the users neck that lets them control the suit with their brain, it also bypasses the bandwidth of human nerves giving a spartan a 2 to 5 millisecond reaction time, this also makes them see in slow motion when adrenaline kicks in.
Thanks for helping a big 40k fan who has seen this masterpiece 40,000 times already a chance to view it from a fresh perspective. Most of your guesses about the universe were surprisingly accurate considering you had no prior knowledge of the setting.
Keep in mind that the Space Marines are a very elite force. Their numbers are FAR too few to be able to take on all of the myriad threats that face the Imperium daily. Each Chapter has a maximum of about 1000 Marines, which was done purposefully after the Horus Heresy to prevent any one person from having the power of an entire Space Marine Legion at their command.
The Imperial Guard makes up the bulk of the Imperium's fighting force, just regular dudes with standard-issue lasrifles. These weapons may be devastating by today's standards, but in the 41st Millennium... they're about as powerful as a flashlight.
Space Marines carry boltguns, which fire mass-reactive rocket propelled rounds (they detonate when surrounded by mass, i.e. a body), their helmets have high-tech auspex targeting indicators allowing them to 'see' through smoke and darkness as well as vox units (which is why you don't hear them speak, it's all internal), and their armor is formed of ceramite, the same thing that the Guardsmen build FORTIFICATIONS out of. They're essentially walking tanks, and don't even get me started on a Chapter's First Company Devastator squads. The guy with the pistol is the squad Sergeant, and that is a plasma pistol, highly destructive but only good for a few shots before overheating. Weapons such as this are given to officers as it's expected they'll know how best to make use of its limited but devastating capacity. As far as the sprinting goes, it has been said that nothing that big should be able to move that fast, but they do.
"They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear." - The Emperor of Mankind
The main thing you really need to know about the 40K universe is that when everything is overpowered, nothing is overpowered, and there are no good or bad guys. It's just WAR. If you have questions about it or anything, hit me up :D
"a big government power that is oppressing people". nail on the head my friend
Astartes or Space Marines have what is known as the black carapace. it is grown into their chest from their ribcage and fuses into a single solid plate. The Black Carapace grows tendrils throughout the upper body connecting itself to the vital organs and central nervous system of the Space Marine. Once its fully grown sockets are installed which allow a Space Marine to wear Power Armor. The Armor itself connects to the Black Carapace and by extension the Space Marines nervous system, allowing them to move freely while wearing the armor without any lag from the powered suit.
I love watching people who know nothing about 40k fumble in the dark for answers and make assumptions. "I'm assuming these are the good guys?" I damn near died laughing at that. There is no clear cut GOOD in 40k sure there are good people and some happy endings occasionally but for the most part it is DARK!
LOL
“They’re probably the good guys?” In 40K, there’s no such thing as a good guy, every role you can play, you’ll always technically be the bad guy.
There's bad guys, worse guys, and slightly less bad guys :)
Apart from Magnus, who didn't do anything wrong!
@@kevinshort3943 No he just decided that he would just punch a hole through the Emporeror's equivelant of the Webway and walk to the Throne Room using Chaos, which then allows Chaos Spawn to attack the Emperor directly. Instead of just walking/traveling the long way round. As I'm feeling exceptionally argumentative :)
Magnus didn't believe he had time to go the "long way".
He also had no idea it was the Emperors' web way project, or he was using Chaos, or Chaos spawn, because the E hadn't bothered to tell him they even existed.
It was all Erebus' fault anyway............ No wait! it was all the Emperors' fault for not telling anyone (particularly Magnus) about the warp and Chaos.
GW must have done a good job with the law if we can argue about this stuff :)
@@kevinshort3943 No problem :)
I could be wrong but i'm sure the book describes Magnus as stopping often on the journey and that he wasn't particularly rushed. Although that could be from my shitty memory for that particular 'scene' or the author not giving enough emphasis on Magnus' speed and urgency.
That is true, but Magnus knew of Chaos at that point, that why he was going to big E in the first place! :P Also i'm pretty sure it's hinted Magnus has always know what Chaos and the Wrap is but big E told him to keep it to himself. Besides, the more who know of Chaos the stronger it gets. Ignorance is more than bliss in this case, its a sword, shield and armour.
To be fair, there should be no blame, all are at fault. Big E for leaving The Crusade. Since his 'children' needed guidance and Horus just wasn't respected enough to have that influence. The Primarchs for their pettyness and easy suduction to anything/one who will advice them. The rest are pretty obvious.
The problem with the 40K lore(not law-now you know :) ) is that it's written by hundreds of Authors over 30+ years and it's got no consistancy. Some great ideas are scrapped for shittier ones and the opposite is also true.

I fought the law and the lore won !
The main issue is, that it was originally a very tongue in cheek game, not to be taken seriously. But now the lore is super dark and serious.
Yay for biker space dwarves.
I think maybe religion plays a part in it.
Everyone else: You don’t say?
Space marines are designed for melee combat. They are beasts at range but a fight at range is a waste of a space marine. You can just send a billion guys with flashlights if your fight is at range.
A space marine charging you is supposed to be one the most bone chilling things possible for a non spacemarine. I think the lore states that the human brain hiccups trying to rationalise how something so large can move so fast
My brain certainly hiccupped when I saw him run lol
If a possession is allowed to go unchecked you can get something that makes Event Horizon look like a tea party
Event Horizon is considered to be a sort-of prequel to Warhammer 40k, describing one possible version of Humanities first experiences with the Warp
@@talltroll7092 I have heard that theory
The Space Marine are canonically so fast, and so agile, even in their armour, that watching them in combat can cause Post Human Shock. Your whole worldview gets shaken because nobody that big, and that heavy, should be able to move like that.
So 1) the space marines are massive and massively augmented then can bench press tanks for a light work out run faster then most cars and jump over building 2) their armour is more then just thick metal it has powered muscles in it that can amplify speed and strength even further and 3) whilst some other people do wear this armour, the space marines have a special organ inserted into their skin called the black carapace (their skin is flayed off and whilst still conscious this new organ is welded onto their muscle and nerves) that allows the armour to be a new set of skin.
"I think they are the good guys"...... Me: oh honey.
"I dunno how these people did it..."
These people are one guy.
21:29 That happens when a Psyker dares to dance with the Chaos of the Warp.
You know the saying; "If thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee."
A Psyker is powerful enough, that he can kill 4-6 Astartes before finally dying, so that was an assassination attempt.
Quick thinking saved those two's lives.
The chapter of space marines fighting here are the retributors chapter.
ah yes loyal Sons of Dorn forever Vigilant in their Eternal Crusade
@@brothersgt.grauwolff6716 Damn straight. Why my own chapter is an Imp Fists successor.
In response to how the marines move, it is a combo of a mental connection to the armor, motion sensors in the armor's limbs, and the marines themselves being subjected to gene therapy to make themselves super human and strong enough to at least move by brute force
(Awesome! Astartes is perhaps my favorite Warhammer 40K animation of all time, so it was a great pleasure to see you react to it! Also, both Astartes, and Space Marines, are correct, Astartes is formal and Space Marines is casual.)
Thanks for letting me know :)
Why did he drop the gun?
Plasma pistols can release shots whose tremendous heat rivals the surface of a sun, but they are prone to overheat and explode fatally if fired too often on high-power. If his plasma pistol is reaching critical from repeated rapid firing, dropping it at a safe distance until it cools down is the best move. Imperial plasma weaponry is insanely powerful, but can be very unstable if pushed to the limits.
Once you've gone a bit deeper into the lore, start watching/reacting to If The Emperor Had a Text-To-Speech device.
TTS is a mix of lore and memes
18:55 They seem reckless because part of the process of becoming a space marine removes the fear response, the closest thing a space marine can feel to fear is a state where their tactical conditioning gets overwhelmed and a withdrawal becomes the only feasible option. Once they have an objective they will never stop, waver or hesitate until the objective is achieved or it becomes impossible to achieve it.
You mentioned that they were pretty calm..... Yeah.... they were genetically modified to literally know no fear. That's why they are always so composed, even with lasers rapid firing at you.
Hypno indoctrination is more the reason for "feel no fear" I'd argue
@@TheCinderfang Although it probably does play a part, it's pretty explicit in the lore that the Emperor created the Primarchs, and subsequently the Astartes, to feel no fear. He needed the perfect army to conquer the galaxy, so he designed them himself.
Also each one of those marines has several decades of combat experience if not more.
This kind of stuff does happen in 40k. Astartes/Space Marines are the Emperor's chosen. They are his angel's of death.
No one messes around when there is potential to have a possessed psyker on the loose. That was considered a light exorcism.
"Good Guys" - We don't do that here
Also I forgot to mention the reason he was running to melee combat is because the shields would have stopped all ranged attacks because the bolts or bulltets we’re moving to fast to go through the shields however a knife attack would have gone slow enough to pass through with out being stopped
In a universe where demons literally exist, prayer is VERY important...
Peachbutt: "I assume these are the good guys"
WH40K: "yeah, no, we don't do that here."
To clear up your question on how they move so easily. Yes the Armour is heavy. However it is literally part of their body. As aspirants the marines have many surgeries. The last one places an organ called the black carapace across their ribcage which bonds to the central nervous system. The armour then links directly into the ports on the carapace bonding with the nerves and creating a direct link between Marine and armour. The back pack is the power unit. The armour then acts as if it were a part of the limbs. They wish to move their arms? The muscles and the armour both move.
A marine can move his armour whilst it is not powered but it is difficult for him to do so.
« They dont seem very cautious at all »
And They Shall Know No Fear!
They dont feel fear, everything wants to kill you in 40k, and those who dont, you should fear the most
For the armor, they have something called the black carapace, and that is implanted into their skin (correct me if I'm wrong), but what it does, is that it connects to the suit, the Astartes thinks it, the armor moves with him.
Yeah, it's basically right in the skin. The power armor is basically a second skin thanks to said lovely little carapace, but we all knew that.
Scripture indeed - In 40k called Purity Seals and are awarded for valor - given as accommodations to Marines who distinguish themselves in battle
"Are the big armored guys the good guys?" Yes.
"Or are they the bad guys?" Also yes.
"Do they serve some sort of oppressive government?" YES.
"Are the rebels the bad guys?" Yes.
"Or are they good guys, like freedom fighters?" Yet again, Yes.
Okay, so the armour is powered and they have an interface covering their entire body that interacts with the armour. Even without the armour they are massively powerful. Dumbed down a bit, but it should help you understand.
Those three thingies on his forehead? Each represents 50 years of service. Astartes' life expectancy is typically 'until they're killed' so its not rare to see them hang around for many centuries. Forget about Master Chief or whatever else, when it takes 50 years to get past your basic training and get assigned as an scout for 'actual soldiers', you know you have an elite soldier in the making.
One represented 100 years, I believe, while the other two represented 25 years.

The helmet eye things was just one of the holes in the helmet. The psychic force of the 2 mask dudes cracked the lense on the space marines helmet.
"These guys have alot of armor."
They can safely be considered walking cover for normal soldiers, IE: Imperial Guardsmen.
They are basically walking tanks at this point. Las Cannons or Plasma weapons are the things that reliably punch through them. But then again those weapons punch through tanks so that is not really surprising. Anti-personal weapons though? Yeah, gotta be a lucky hit to do anything.
Even normal lazguns, which could easily blow a normal person’s limb off, needs to hit a weak point multiple times in quick secession to even get a lucky chance to get past the armor.
@@JohnMasterCheif Indeed, but if I say stuff like you'd need an anti-tank weapon like meltas, plasma, krak or las cannons to get past that armor usually you know there would be somebody pointing out that this is not correct because people like to act like you said it's impossible without anti-tank weaponry. Hence the bit about needing lucky hits. IIRC even the "eyes" of astartes power armor helmets have some sort of armor rating, just not one comparable to the helm itself or the shoulder armor. Least that is what a buddy that read way more of the novels than me said... that hitting the eyes doesn't mean you penetrate the helm and hit the head underneath.
But yeah, to RELIABLY take out Astartes in full gear you need big fucking weapons. Or ALOT of normal ones.
Nobody would argue a squirtgun kills people but water erodes stone... over eons.
Likewise you wouldn't expect a normal salvo of lasgun fire to do much to an Astartes but fire enough shots at it and every armor gets worn down... eventually.
Welp, that was getting a bit long. Sorry. My bad.

On the armor, its a power armor but even then there are a few other things that make these guys so good at moving in these, one is the gene and biological engineering from geneseed implantations which make these guys post-human monsters in combat even before they get their equipment and the big mobility boost for using the power armor is a particular geneseed known as the Black Carapace, a subdermal techno-organic implant that grow special ports to hook up the power armor to so as to make the power armor react with the same ease and quickness as one's own body. There is power armor for normal humans but it is no-where near as smooth to operate as Space Marine power armor due to the lack of direct neural interface the Black Carapace gives.

LAMENTERS EXIST
These guys will literally die for you as long as you're friends with the human race and not fucking hostile
One reason they don't seem to show fear is because fear is overridden by the sense of duty to the imperium (what they are a part of) their job is to serve and die for it.
There’s a video that’s excellent on explaining the Bolter (The rifle the Space Marines use).
It fires a .75 caliber explosive round that penetrates the person’s flesh before detonating, inside of them. If you couldn’t tell, the odds aren’t exactly on your side when you get hit by it. Each round also has 3 little rocket propulsion things in the back of the round, allowing it to have extreme accuracy. It also serves to prevent a buildup of pressure in the Bolter as said rockets are attached directly to the round, not the casing.
Each Bolter if fired would rather obviously tear a normal human’s arm off (or at a minimum shatter their shoulder) if fired, not mentioning just getting executed for merely possessing one of you’re not a Space Marine.
The maintenance on said Bolters are extremely rigorous and difficult, hence why only Space Marines and certain other advanced military orders get access to it. The little necklace you saw the Space Marine hanging above the Bolter at the beginning actually was a religious thing. Part of their maintenance is “appeasing the Machine Spirits” of each of their guns. If it’s not treated with respect, it actually could very likely break down, so it’s actually an important ritual to perform.
Besides that, there are a *ton* of different variants for Bolters, like the Storm Bolter (double barreled Bolter). It’s actually quite interesting how much detail the writers put into the creation of every weapon in the Imperium.
I'm excited to check it out, thanks :)
