Couple things I forgot to mention. These are not waterproof but yet the leather is thick enough to get you some resistance for a bit. They’re not warm in winter, yet I had ZERO issues walking in freezing temps for hours with decent socks. And I must say, 90% of my use in these was outside. Very little indoors walking. No actual work.
I have had two pair for two years. They definitely get more comfortable the more you wear them. Not waterproof and not lined. I wear them as a casual shoe. If I go for a walk while wearing no problem. 👍👍👍👍👍
I just got a pair of Thursday Captians Storm Kings for Christmas. They’re nice but I can tell the difference in overall quality immediately compared to the Iron Ranger.
11 months on my 8111s. Pretty much the same experience. Bent one speed hook and they have worn a hole on both sides of the tongues. I had to put on some kilties and prefer the fit a bit better with them. Nicks 1964 Mahoghany Work leather was a good match in color to my 8111s. The only problem, the right kiltie will slide to the right. Thanks for the update.
Wow, so I actually will wear a hole right through the tongue. Good to know. I’ll do something about it sooner rather than later. Thanks for the update. Love these boots though!
@ That’s not a bad idea! I think I have some flex tape lying around, might cut some up and give that a try. I haven’t had my hands on hockey tape in 30 years…god I miss playing hockey.
I have the Beckman black cherry featherstone for over 10 years and the 1907 Moc toe for over 10 years. Wore them extensively for office work and outside leisure time. Only had to resole the 1907's. The leather on both boots have aged wonderfully with very little maintenance., Just recently started using Red Wings care products to prepare and deal with this cold winter.
I thought about buying the Beckman’s for Christmas, but the newer versions are a little more streamlined and thin compared to the older models like you have. I like the older ones better. Looked into eBay but people know how sought after they are and used pairs are going for $400-$600 (in good condition). Love those things! Just bought a pair of Thursday Captains Storm Kings. $200. I’ll give those a try next
On the Iron Rangers I’m really careful with conditioning them, I’ll only use Bicks 4 or Red Wing Leather Cream, because both will not darken leather much. Anything else I have in the house will darken it. For my actual work boots that I don’t mind darkening I’ll use Obenaufs, or mink oil, or a combination formula of 4 parts neats foot oil and one part bees wax. I’ll melt an ounce of bees wax into four ounces of neats foot oil, pour it into a container and it turns into a paste. I’ll use Sno-Seal if I need serious waterproofing, it’s cheap and easy to apply. I’d like to try Hubards someday too.

I've worn mine almost every single day for the past 5.5 years. Still going strong.
Amazing! Imagine you’ve done a resole?
@@doublebase6509 nope. Original soul. Occasional clean with a horsehair brush and conditioned with Obenaufs.
Nope. Just occasional cleaning with a horsehair brush and treating with Obenauf's.

I put some hockey tape on the inside behind the speed hooks and that solved the problem, they do however leave a black mark on the tongue! Cheers

@@doublebase6509@BabakPA It's been closer to 40 years since I've played. I still remember that tape. Too funny.

What do you use to condition your boots?

@ thanks for the response.
