    Just an update on this thing…I’m wearing this thing a TON right now. Arm length is very long. But it’s a warm enough jacket (perfect really) for weather in the 30-40 degree range. Material obviously is very strong, zero defects or stitching coming undone. I flip the collar up to keep my neck warm, and if needed I’ll wear a hooded sweatshirt underneath. Like others have said, I probably could get away all winter with this thing if I made some adjustments to layers, etc. But my Bartlett is my go to for that stuff. But the quilted lining in this thing is really comfortable. Great zipper too.

    The misalignment is not normal but the nails bent downward are normal to hold down the leather shank some companies hide it with a light film.

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 3 дні тому

      They should hide the nails with a sock liner or something because when you start to work in these things your weight pushes down on the leather footbed and the nails height stays as is. And they rust and stick into your insole…or worse if you don’t use an insole. I think it’s a poor design on this boot. Not the end of the world. ..I could hammer the nails down or something but with the lopsided eyelids and waiting two months for these boots (along with some big miscommunication with my order) I was not happy with the entire experience. But I am pleased with the Whites Fultons I also bought at the same time.

    Made some great points- great video. If only people will take the time to watch it. I got 240k on a 95 Bronco - my secret...know your vehicle. I have spent some wonderful hours finding and fixing problems mostly on the electrical side. I look at what components are on the circuit that keeps blowing a fuse and I start testing those components for resistance. If it immediately blows another fuse that I know it's probably a short where the insulation has rubbed off but then again I got a lot of metal in my truck even in the interior panels LOL if I was going to buy a commuter used I would be ready to spend some time changing pads possibly rotors shocks / struts air filter cabin filter oil tranny fluid and before you crank up the car you're looking at pull the dipstick and make sure it's not got thick thick 80 weight in it and then once you crank it up using an extension to the top of the motor like a valve cover to your skull and listen if you hear anything other than what sounds like a vacuum cleaner just are swirling then you know that maybe walk away also if the dipstick itself looks like a burnt cookie sheet that tells you right there there's probably a high chance that someone went 20,000 miles at least once between oil changes

    Exactly they are trying to let a Fed Gov employee sitting behind a desk decide which oil we use. I bought a new Toyota with a 4 cylinder and I am in Florida. First oil change(1500m) I went without hesitation to 0w-30. No way I would run anything in Florida on 20 weight oil. That motor oil geek on UA-cam probably works for the Feds. My next car will be a Mazda because I do not wants a turbo, CVT or hybrid, all will fail early and cost a whole lot to fix. I am age 65 and have serviced my own cars for 50 years.

    I had an 06 Colorado 5cyl that I regularly maintainee just like you said in this video for 12 years. I absolutely regret getting rid of that tank. I bought a new 23 Tacoma with the pfi 4cyl and I plan on keeping it for as long as the government will allow me to. I'm worried though that with how modern vehicles are made (even though my Tacoma is the base utility model) with all the electronics, that it may be impossible to get to 500k+ on it. I still plan on doing everything possible to keep it well maintained like I did with my Colorado, but I feel like it won't be enough due to everything being made to fail nowadays. Does anyone have any tips for the modern vehicle that wasn't explained here or that I'm NOT already doing?

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 4 дні тому

      Those Colorados were tanks! Good luck with your Toyota, I think you’ll do alright. If you’re worried about it maybe cut down on the service intervals mileage points a bit. Change the oil a little sooner, etc. That’s a PFI engine? I thought that was a GDI ? I wouldn’t worry about the electronics too much, I’d worry more about eventual rust depending on where you live.

    Hoses are definitely impressive. Only problem i've had was on my dads 2006 Tdi jetta diesel. It had 335k miles on it, and was 16 years old, it had just gotten a slight leak in a heater core hose, enough to leak the antifreeze out. I believe rust and weather took it out, otherwise it would be a strong mechanical 500k mile runner

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 4 дні тому

      It leaked down enough that it destroyed the engine before anyone knew there was a leak? That’s a shame…that thing would have made it to 500k by the sound of it. Yeah definitely should inspect hoses periodically…and I can easily see how heater hoses could be missed. Wonder if the hose clamp was the issue, especially when you mention rust. The clamps themselves can be a big problem in the rust belt.

    Do you still have your duraderos. And if so are they still holding up? After watching the Rose Anvil video I was kinda shocked and as well kinda upset to see with how these were built. I used to wear my duraderos to work. But have now purchased two pairs of thorogoods. This was way before the RA video. I purchased both for 300$ (I lucked out). But it's weird as on the boot subreddit we have recommended and others have held onto their pair for 1-2yrs. Have you sent your boot out for resole? Edit: even with the video I wasn't deterred from buying them. I just decided to buy a pair of the buckhannon as it's going on clearance. And I got them for 150$. These are going to be my casual wear boot. And I already have them oiled and greased up for the fall season.

    • @doublebase6509
      @doublebase6509 5 днів тому

      I had no idea that Rose Anvil did a video on them, I will have to check that out! I don’t wear the pair of Duradero’s in this video as a primary boot anymore. And I have not sent them in for the free resole, the reason being…I stretched out the leather too much on these particular boots. I tortured these things. I honestly have NEVER put a boot through the daily punishment I put these things through and at around ten months I started rotating them with another brand (may have been Thorogoods, can’t remember). At 12 months I retired them. I usually get 10 months out of a boot and then they’re DONE. The longest I’ve ever gone on an everyday no rotation was a year and a few months (Red Wings). But I own a few of Duradero’s newer offering between my son and I, and I have no complaints. A pair of Brunt’s by comparison only lasted me 3 months. I’d put Duradero a notch bellow Thorogood (although I have some issues with their latest lineup), and I’d put BOTH Thorogood and Duradero bellow Red Wing. Just my opinion. Edit - Just watched the video. I have ZERO issues with the inside of these boots, just looked, nothing cracked. However I HATED the insole these boots came with, threw them in the garbage as soon as I saw them. The outsoles were great for me. The heel counter I did not like, it got too flexy and soft at the end of the ten months, but the counter cover was great and never wore through. I’d call these a solid work boot. Like I said, I’d put them bellow Thorogood and Red Wing, but above Carolina and Brunt. I can’t even wear these Carolina’s anymore, all the plastic inside (heel counter and toes, cracked). And the tongue tore. Yet I’d place the Carolina over the Brunt’s.

    I use Pennzoil oil and my advice is if you want extended oils to be using your vehicle use only 10,000 Mi protection that's it I would not try anything over 10,000 Mi oil protection but also keep this in mind do not exceed beyond the 10,000 me protection that the oil is good for if any bring your car in at 9000 me for oil change but once again do not extend past the 10,000 my protection the oil is good for are you will suffer the consequences of damaging your engine for me personally I'm not with this 10,000 Mi or these 20,000 Mi oil protection extension to me that is insane but there's a reason why Pennzoil did not go further than 10,000 protection oil because they know they're not going to become reliable for your engine damage to me that is a smart safe bet for an oil company like them as far as I'm concerned Pennzoil has a very strong film strength natural gas base because it's much cleaner than crude oil and because of that idea the natural gas base oil being a much cleaner oil base is it game changer because Pennzoil don't have to use as much cleaning agents to keep the inside of your engine clean and that's what penso had figured out using natural gas base was a smart move for them so the cleaner the oil base is the longer the oil will last from a cleaner engine so that being said yes just because the dipstick showed that the oil is still light brown at 10,000 miles that don't mean you should go beyond that to prove the point and that's when your taking it on your own wrist that Hensel would not cover you Beyond 10,000 mile keep that in mind stick with 9,000 MI to get your oil changed before 10,000 MI

      Yeah, I can see someone saying that. Or run the 0W20 in winter and the 5W30 in summer. Honestly, both performed well in this particular engine under normal driving conditions.

    Great video. Perhaps you can help. I wear 10.5D in 6" and 8" Timberland boots, What size should I be looking at for 10" loggers. Thanks.

      What I’m worried about with the Drew’s loggers for you is they run WIDE. I have a wide foot and their D fits me, which makes me wonder if their D will be a tiny bit too wide for you. Having said that, I believe they suggest a half to a full size down…so either 10D or 9.5D. These are phenomenal boots though, that I can tell you for certain.
