Meta moment- like the craziest part of a book when one of the characters says the book's title
Billy when he was still young, angry, and hungry. When success wasn't guaranteed. When he didn't have to mind his body language for the audience, and it was all about the music. And my how every inflection was both raw and on-key, and how every keystrike the same.
This is the Billy Joel I fell in love with years ago. Don't get me wrong - he's aged well, but young Joel is still angry. Older Joel had to slow down before he passed by Vienna.
Nothing is more exciting than see a new musical post from this legend’s channel.

Whenever someone asks what is one album you can listen to front and back without skipping a song…Cold Spring Harbor is always my answer! It is truly a piece of nostalgic history!

Legacy edition of piano man is my choice, it has all the piano man album and a recorded radio concert from the early 70’s with this song on it, which I actually like more than the actual recorded version.
So holy crap, Cold Spring Harbor still has some surprises up its sleeve.

I think he always liked this and She's Got A Way but was just not overkeen on the rest of the songs with perhaps the exception of the instrumental Nocturne, that he did initially write lyrics for but then decided to just record it as an instrumental anyway.
I think the song with lyrics is Silver Seas. I have that song from a fan produced anthology series from 20 years ago

He needs to re-release the Cold Spring Harbor with the original mix. Fix the speed obviously, but the original mix, not the version that came out in 1984.
Billy absolutely knocked it out of the park with this song - brilliant, beautiful and bitter. I’d say I’d like to go back to the ‘70s, but the truth is I never left.
I wish we never left. We didn't realize how good we had it. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I've been a fan of his since childhood, but I first heard this this year. And it's turned into one of my favorites of his. Masterpiece! Those fast piano notes are like crack to my ears... so good!

This was a promo for the album before it was released in which he was actually singing live I believe. I think they just put the studio audio over this recording. I may be wrong tho

This was a Promo, only some of this video was visible on the internet. This was actually a video of Billy Recording Everybody Loves You Now at Family Productions Inc. The audio was dubbed with the remastered version because the album had issues during recording. The album is still iconic but wasn't the greatest for Billy at the time :(

This is off his first album which famously had quality issues in production. It was recorded too fast and when he first listened to it, he literally walked outside and threw it down the street. That said, it's probably my favorite Billy Joel album, Cold Spring Harbor.

Such a classic and somewhat auto-biographical song from this master songwriter. Precious to see him in what must be his earliest young man facial hair at control of the keys. Cold Spring Harbor is a must have album for Billy Joel fans.

Damn what a badass.
This was originally filmed with Billy miming to the 1971 mix which was sped up in error. But Billy simply transposed it from the original key to the sped up version in this film so his hands would at least match up with what is being heard. In fact, Billy actually continued to perform the song in this "accidental" new key in his setlists for years (it appears that way on Songs In The Attic, for example). However, this official upload replaced the track with the 80s Artie Ripp remix which featured some re-recorded parts and had the speed corrected to its original pitch. Therefore, what Billy is playing on the piano does not align with what is being heard at all.
Outstanding. Billy’s worst (imo, there really is not one) is still better than anyone else’s best! True story: in high school, people started asking me if I was from NY! I had grown up in the Midwest, so I was a bit shocked. Entirely without intention, came the realization that I listened to him so, so much, I actually picked up his accent! My best friends, (whom I am proud to say received a powerful introduction to every song on every one of his albums from yours truly) and I had a strict policy when we were together. All Billy, all the time! Whether in the car, or at one of our houses, we were actually quite obsessed!
He captures feelings - dispositions - thoughts with the pen of a poet as his music dances in between the emotions unlocking the secrets of musical curiosity and wisdom.
My favorite song of all time..I know everyone love the songs in the attic version but this version is a fucking masterpiece

This mix is from the reissue in the 80s. With today's technology, even if the original multis are lost, they should be able to go in and finally correct those "chipmunk" vocals.

Probably surpassing your old ones. Do 1 double album starting from the age of 45 or so up until now and the emotions that start creeping in. 😁💕💕💕💕it’s in you and needs to come out- just think of how many people this will help, how many questions it may answer in their lives and give them clarity.
