[Lyrics]
Baby all the lights are turned on you
Now you're in the center of the stage
Ev'rything revolves on what you do
Ah, you are in your prime, you've come of age
You can always have your way somehow
Because everybody loves you now
You can walk away from your mistakes
You can turn your back on what you do
Just a little smile is all it takes
And you can have your cake and eat it too
Loneliness will get to you somehow
But everybody loves you now
Ah, they all want your white body
And they await your reply
Ah, but between you and me
And the Staten Island ferry
So do I
All the people want to know your name
Soon there will be lines outside your door
Feelings do not matter in your game
Because nothing's gonna touch you anymore
So your life is only living anyhow
And everybody loves you now
Close your eyes when you don't want to see
And stay at home when you don't want to go
Only speak to those who will agree
Yeah, and close your mind when you don't want to know
You have lost your innocence somehow
But everybody loves you now
Ah, you know that nothing lasts forever
And it's all been done before
Ah, but you ain't got the time
To go to Cold Spring Harbor
No more
See how all the people gather around
Hey, isn't it a thrill to see them crawl
Keep your eyes ahead and don't look down
Yeah, and lock yourself inside your sacred wall
This is what you wanted, ain't you proud
Because everybody loves you now

Devito, Stegmeyer, Javers, Cannata…..when Billy’s band was untouchable!!
And David Brown
One of Billy Joel's best songs (although he has many excellent songs), and the best band he has ever had.
I totally agree, although I think it is his best song in my opinion. I have the songs in the attic soundtrack and every time this comes on it gets blasted in my car
What's the name of the one about the highway with the 5 numbers? I LOVE that song, but cant find it on UA-cam.
I love watching DeVito kicking ass on the drums! He's a legend.
SD79 Danny?

Billy Joel sounded like Billy Joel because of Liberty Devitto.
They are like one musical mind with four arms and four legs. “Songs From The Attic” is an all time great and a rendition almost exactly like this one is more why than a dozen she’s got a ways.
What a great overall performance! His vocals, his piano playing, his lyrics. Amazing how he doesn't look down at the keys!
He was a badass back then songs were so strong
Billy kicks every singers asses here 🔥
This is the band I heard in 75-76 at William Paterson-I was right offstage-since it was Shea auditorium, I was downstairs practicing in the music rooms downstairs, didn't even know he was going to be there. I heard a commotion upstairs, there he was with this same band. I walked up the back stairs and stood off to the side for the entire show-then had to go back to work on whatever i was working on at the time but had free admission good thing I had no money. God was i jealous! I could use the auditorium as a music major whenever i wanted to, but there he suddenly appeared, wow! We had lost a gig in NJ way back, because he had already captured one of the club's we were trying to get work-before he hit it big, 1969-70 or so, he had already caught my attention, he's my age. A true craftsman, entertainer, truly one of the most talented musicians in my lifetime. nI the same league as the best songwriters in the 20th century IMO, and was right from the beginning.
Cool story. Thanks for sharing!
@@teamtwe You're welcome. Then I went back downstairs and practiced some more on the college's Wurlitzer tine pianos, which I played whenever I had the time. Odd how now these are worth so much money, with their old particle board cases and flimsy legs!
My favorite song ever!!!! Billy Joel is great at truly embodying some aspects of human nature.
+Andrew Gerace For all our mutual experience, Our separate conclusions are the same

I saw what you did there ☺
Loneliness will get to you somehow, line that caused me to query song, method to madness, had to back tract to cold spring harbor release , first exposure to Joel was April 72 Sigma Sound MMR live
It's mine too
I've concluded that I prefer the ugly people to the beautiful people. Because only the ugly people know how lucky the beautiful people are.
I'm jealous of all those people in that room. One of my favorite Billy Joel songs. Okay, maybe most of them are my favorite lol...
:) preach it
Everybody loves Billy!!!
This might be my favorite billy joel song. Seeing him do it live is so cool
That- ladies and gentlemen, is pure genius.

Thank you for the lyrics. the first 「But✖ everybody →「Cause〇 everybody
The album title「Cold Spring Harbor」comes up here. 「all the lights are turned on you」 goes up to「 turn the lights back on」。
Billy Joel has unmatched energy on stage
Billy Joel and band at their peak.. This is fire
Actually when this was written Billy didn’t have much acknowledgment and not much of a band so this is actually even more amazing considering his situation
Liberty De Vitto, master drummer!!!!
What's amazing is that Billy had already recorded these amazing songs before Songs In The Attic. Yet the live versions of these songs are far superior than the ones he had recorded years before.
Well I know Everybody Loves You Now was on Cold Spring Harbor, which I think had issues in recording.
Mark W I think all of the versions on Songs in the Attic are better than the originals!!
danger2374
Especially Miami 2017, even though the original was god-tier in the first place.
Streetlife Serenader Bill has said in interviews that he personally preferred the versions on 'Attic' due to being able to play the songs the way he wanted.
Two things about Cold Spring Harbor:
-he was still recovering from a suicide attempt which fucked up his throat a lot
-the album was originally recorded too slowly, so to play everything at the correct tempo, it distorts the pitch and sound quality. CSH is often referred to as the chipmunk album because of this.
I am so grateful to my uncle for introducing me to Billy Joel's music as a toddler. That love has carried through from my childhood to adulthood. Billy Joel is my all time favorite artiste.
One of my favorite songs by him. I wonder why it wasn't more popular.
It's probably due to being on his very first album before he became better known and then just for good measure it was badly produced when recorded at the wrong speed.
The album itself only really had a few stand out tracks with the rest decent but mainly just filler tracks but he does still do this from time to time at his live shows.
@@amazed66 that album is underrated as a whole. Some pretty great tracks. You could argue it’s lower on the list of his whole catalog, but I think that says more about how great his catalog is.
@@BuddyChy Well, it came out in 1971 so he was a new artist competing against Zeppelin, Bowie, The Doors, The Stones, The Who, the list goes on
Because Stairway to Heaven came out the same year :) Stiff competition.
One of the greatest songs of all time .what an incredible voice
That voice!
This is one of the greatest Billy Joel songs ever I constantly play it to my girlfriend. This song is so so true about so many women. Billy is a true legend.
So many women? I think it is about stars!
My favorite band line-up.
That was amazing! so great to see all the original band members in their prime!
When I was tripping this was like an epiphany to me, to hear this. And I'm not sure if I thought it was about Jesus or what I was thinking. But in any case, I've really loved this song ever since.
hell yeah, it's just an incredible song no way around it
One of my TOP faves from Mr. William Martin Joel. I always think of some of girls I've dated, and the lyrics in this song was the outcome for some of them. Talk about Karma!
Probably the outcome for all of them. No one escapes their own bad behavior,
Choi Min TRUTH!
Could you not just call him Billy?
J V L I V S Photography yeh I agree with KK, I don't know you and I already know you're incredibly pretentious and pretty obnoxious mate😂
His first album... HIS FIRST ALBUM! Amazing. First heard him on 102.7 WNEW-FM at The Bottom Line, and fell in love immediately with his music.
The best combination, songs from COLD SPRING HARBOR played with the 1976-1983 band!!
This is an excellent song. Billy Joel is definitely one of the greatest songwriters ever. The lyrics in this song are absolutely brilliant.
Living legend
Classic early Joel. This is from the record he ended up throwing down the street because it was mastered wrong.
I recently just played this song from songs in the attic. For my brother in law who never heard it and he was surprised how tight and clean it sounded. He's not a Billy fan but I think I opened his eyes a little.
This song is very difficult to play and sing. But everything he does looks so easy. Great.
Nobody does it like Billy does it.
What a treasure he is!
One of my favorite billy Joel songs from cold spring harbour.
Agree! Btw, lindalicata is one of my favorite names!
The one I know is the greatest lady!
So grateful, Billy has shared CSH songs live over the years. They are great and you are spot on! Sorry for the 5 year retard in reply. Just found this.
Wow amazing band full stop!!!!!
awesome
❤love this so much!
Thank you for sharing this awesome song ...
One of my favorites. Love hearing Billy play it live.
Really beautiful footage. Thanks..
Good to be hit back with some classics!^^
one of my favorites
Will be seeing him on Sunday in Raleigh, NC..can’t wait! Love you Billy!
Played this last night, 7/2/14, at MSG. Love this!
Live Billy Joel. Love Billy Joel
Mr. Joel, thank you for so much beautiful music. It touches my heart and soul.!
I love this video!
What a great performance! Would have loved to been there.
WOW - his voice is so pure here - love this version
Very rock and energic version of a song from an album very sweet
Great perfomance, included on Songs in the Attic album!!!
Billy Joel is a genius!
The guitars were freaking awesome on this one with brilliant lyrics.
Best song ever...
This song reminds me of a lot of people I’ve known. It always gets me worked up.
I saw bj bout 1977 at Manchester apollo n like steely Dan he has a deep place in my heart , I've grown up with his genius 👍
one of my favourtie songs
Better songwriter than Lennon/McCartney IMO
Hi Billy Joel and a realistic Beatles fan and I just wanted to say
Yes.
The Beatles were good and iconic, but not perfect and untouchable. The White Album alone has a lot of McCartney and Lennon duds.
Jake Hills yup billy joel only have like 5 overrated songs. his underrated songs is actually better than most of the beatle’s songs.
He's an amazing storyteller. Elton John, too. Less of the "let's repeat that line one more time" and more "what's next part of the story".
@@keithprice7343 that was my favourite song of his when I was a teen. I used to belt it out while playing piano (in a spare room far out the back of my parent's house!). Super talented storyteller. An equally passionate Your Song by Elton John was played about as many times (much simpler notation, however!). Must have driven my folks nuts!
I Love Billy and he is incredible . . . but don't get crazy.
大好きな歌なので聴けてよかったです!ありがとうございます
Stumble through Billy joel's songs an found this absolute gold!
I expect you could stumble on quite a few more hidden gems too.
I wish they still made music like this
I love you Billy Joel
Pure talent
Love ❤️
this is the great Billy Joel with the 52nd. street Band.
Back when both Billy and I had hair! Oh, the ravages of time!
Billy aveva una marcia in più rispetto a tutti gli altri .... Talento fenomenale ..... W
Ой когда был молодой и это про то время..Блин аж до кончика хвоста пробрала...
That drummer is a bad ass!
This song is about celebrity culture and celebrities. I don’t know that he wrote it about that but that is what it means to me.
❤❤❤super super❤❤❤
He wrote so many great songs. Weird how it all came to a halt.
He stopped while on top. Better in the long run to be remembered as a great artist than an artist who lost it.

あぁ消えてほしくない映像😢
These were the days. Early Billy with that band.
I am pretty sure this was at Huntington, Long Island at Sparks.
It was, on East Main, the very same venue where I would meet Billy Joel, for the very first time, out in the front of Sparks, on Thanksgiving Night, 1981, and he became my Musical Idol, ever since, giving me some very sage Musical performance advice, as I was just Solo-ing for one year by then, upstairs in Amityville's BEACHTREE CAFE!...
Russell, you guys were cooking. Great guitar playing!
What a pleasant surprise to see Russell Javors in the comments section on UA-cam. Russell - You are consistently excellent and your performances have made millions of people extremely happy. Thank you for your work.

Fuckin love this song aye
Reminds me of my dad😭
love the way he walks in with a glass of beer
My piano man!
Now THAT'S a main character
If this is a real show and the date is correct and it's not a staged video (the camera angles and lighting suggest that it's a set or at least being shot for PR purposes rather than being a legit gig), it's interesting that he's still playing these small clubs in 81, after he was already a multi-Grammy Award winning, platinum artist.
I only discovered this song about 6 months ago. I am not sure when Joel wrote this, but I don't think he performed it during his concert at the Oakland Coliseum when I saw him in 1979, which was the best concert I ever saw and that includes the Rolling Stones and the Who.
Its from his 1st album in 1971.
This was actually recorded live at Sparks in New York.
🎵
I know a woman exactly like this !
This seems to match the Songs In the Attic track, which was recorded in July,1980 at the Bayou in D.C. I remember the tour he did of small clubs to come up with the material for that album because I was in school in Boston when he swung by the Paradise Club on Comm Ave one day, unannounced. I found out about it when it was already sold out and was completely bummed out at the time. It's a very small club and everyone in there must have felt up close and personal to the performance.
Steven Feinstein I take it back, this is a similar but different recording from that tour, so probably not the Bayou.
I could’ve sworn that the “Songs in The Attic” album was recorded in Minneapolis
@@MrPach19 Songs in the Attic was recorded in many different places during his 1980 Glass Houses Tour. BTW, the video you see is from Sparks but the audio is from the Washington DC performance which is on Songs In The Attic
@@StevenFeinstein No, you were right the first time. It is from Washington DC
Staten Island Ferry is my nickname at the Club
LETRA EN ESPAÑOL ✨
Bebé, todas las luces se encendieron
sobre ti
Ahora estás en el centro del escenario
Todo gira en lo que haces
Estás en tu mejor momento; ya eres
mayor
Y tú siempre puedes tener tu camino de
algún modo
Porque ahora todos te aman
Puedes alejarte de tus errores
Puedes voltear la espalda a lo que
haces
acuerdo
Si, y cierra tu mente cuando no
quieras saber
Has perdido tu inocencia de alguna
manera
Pero ahora todos te aman
Sabes que nada dura para siempre
Y todo se ha hecho antes
Pero no tienes el tiempo para ir a
Cold Spring Harbor
No más
Mira cómo la gente se reúne alrededor
Hey, ¿No es emocionante verlos gatear?
Mantén tus ojos al frente y no voltees
atrás
Si, y enciérrate dentro de tu templo
sagrado
Esto es lo que querías; ¿No estás
orgullosa?
Porque ahora todos te aman
¡Gracias!

@William Morgan I read somewhere that it isn't the exact same performance, but is from the same tour, so same arrangement and band (and thus almost the same).

Billy’s “sound” will never be the same without Doug and Liberty. Have always loved Billy’s blatant disregard for The Sibilant ‘S’! 🤓
