This version is a lot better than the original, he has more emotion, and he goes slow and makes sure every word has feeling in it.

@@ckalinwi Right. The reissue on "Songs" was slowed to the correct speed. And if I remember, it had a couple other instruments beyond the original. I managed to find "Cold Spring Harbor" in 1979 or 1980, after learning of the error. But at that time, turntables had a speed adjustment wheel to sync the table with the strobe... It was easy to slow the table to be way out of sync, but then sound correct.

The love of my life gave me this song as a promise of a new adventure and said that every word in it expressed the way he felt about me and the way I made him feel. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly 11 months later. I haven't been able to listen to this song for a while, but today is the anniversary of the day we came into each other's lives so I decided to listen to it. It's been almost 7 months but my wound is still very raw. Thank you Billy Joel!

This is from the 1983 Cold Spring Harbor reissue. The original original didn't have strings, and Joel's voice pitch is correct in this version.

Too me this is hundreds times better than the “Songs in the attic” version. Yeah maybe in the live he sings better and the sounds better but there’s something about this recording… The passion… The emotion… The purest of it all. Billy had nothing, this was pure Billy.

This was the missing piece from my life.
It seems his voice was much more "Legit" and yes, beautiful. Now his voice has much more character and stylistically he's amazing... I wonder if he can still pull off the much more "legit" sound anymore though... One thing will never change he does write THE BEST music!

I just found an excellent copy of the original pressing. Thankful that I have a turntable where I can adjust the speed to where it should be, as I completely understand how it must have bugged Billy to no end to have it sound wrong on the original recording.

They screwed up the production of his first album and he came out sounding like a chipmunk. But in Philly WMMR, the turntables ran slow. The Sigma Sound Concert helped him redeem and claim the greatness he was destined for. The Sad Warrior.

Where is the version I am looking for?! AHHH! At the end he gives it an extra "AAAAAYYYYY" .... It's the only version I've ever heard, since I was a kid. Didn't even know this version existed. The one I'm thinking of is much more passionate and powerful.

I have an original LP…the record company dumped their stockpile of it on the market after The Stranger came out and Billy “got big.” The increased speed makes him sound a bit chipmunk-y.

Daily I wear a note my 90-year-old mother gave me when I was waiting for a call to report for a private duty assignment in The Gulf some 14 years ago. She made me promise before I got to read it, to wear it around my neck with all my Identification, at all times, in case I am recovered from one disaster, or another, and to show this note to all people who I feel have helped me.
In her Shakey script, are the words; “To whom it May concern, Please take care of my boy, Thank You, his Mother.”
I wear it every day, I couldn’t begin to tell you how many doors that note has opened for me, and how many people have wiped away a tear upon reading it since. There is a picture of my Mom, and me in my Officer's uniform attached on the flip side.
In the time I have left in this world with both parents having lived into their 90s, I try each day to be the man my mother raised me to be, and one day I hope I could be the human, all the animals of my life thought I was. When people ask me; “Will, how are you? I immediately reply; “I am very Blessed”! I have Angels in both worlds”!
With Mother’s Day coming up, I can't help but think Mom worked through you to remind me, I will always be her son. If you get a chill reading this, tell Mom, I was behaving myself. 👍😎LOL!

Is this the original release or the corrected playback speed remaster? It sounds too high
This is the remastered version, it may be a little off but it's way closer to his voice than the original was. This was also recorded in 1971 when his voice was higher so that may make it sound a bit weird.
Cold Spring Harbor is by far his best album. About 75 76 his songs got way too poppy and overproduced.
