  • So, what did we think of In A Violent Nature? I enjoyed the film from a technical standpoint and appreciated the aesthetics and practical effects.
    There are many elements that work incredibly well, and I believe it offers an interesting deconstruction of the slasher genre. However, I wish it explored the subgenre it's subverting a bit more.
    I have a feeling this film will divide horror fans, so I'm curious to know what others thought. Please share your thoughts on this movie in the comments!
    Thanks for watching!

    I enjoyed this movie for the most part. I found it pretty relaxing and curious if they will do a prequel or sequel. I'm perfectly fine if they leave it as a single entry.

    Great review!!! I just watched In A Violent Nature in the Theater last night, and...well I actually really liked it. It was described as an "Ambient Slasher" by the Director, so I went in not expecting a huge gore fest in every scene. In terms of the ending, I loved the tension and suspense, and the questions it left me with. It's basically kind of a love letter to Friday the 13th. In terms of comedy, I didn't have the same reaction to "That" Kill, but the audience I was with gasped in shock, and about 5 of them left the theater after lol.

      @@KatsHorrorCornerI think I had a bad experience because of the way I chose to watch it. It was super casual I just popped it on with some friends. I don’t know why I was expecting something more like Sinister. I was watching another UA-camr describe his experience. He watched in the dark, on his laptop with headphones. Now I could see that working. Because it’s more atmospheric. I just didn’t get to do that. Did you watch it in theaters?

    • @KatsHorrorCorner

      @@eronj5824 No, I watched it at home alone with all the lights off, so I think that definitely helped the viewing experience! I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much seeing it in a theater.

    Totally agree with your thoughts on this one! Lots of admirable qualities about it, including the cinematography, kills, and overall rawness brought about by the more realistic and transformative take on the genre. By the end of its 95 minute runtime...it felt pretty drawn out to me...but you have to appreciate indie filmmakers taking risks like these. Have you seen the director's short film in The ABCs of Death 2?

    Good review…I enjoyed some of this film …the walking was a bit much at times..I had 3 people leave the theater during one of the walking parts about 40 mins in..also I thought it wasn’t necessary to show his face when they did ….it was a weird choice …I agree the kills were pretty good..I’m not sure if I’d like to see a sequel ….i just don’t think this movie is for casual horror fans ..more for hardcore fans …and the ending was kinda of a let down…nothing happened 😂

    I haven't seen the movie myself YET and I will soon but I AM kinda surprised that I'm not seeing more people call it a total rip-off of Friday the 13th. Yes i KNOW it is shot in a third person angle following the killers point of view and that's a first in slasher movies and YES I also know its suppose to be a throwback to old slashers and its SUPPOSED to be inspired by those old 80s movie's INCLUDING Friday the 13th and the directior has said so himself BUT come on, does ANYONE think it might be a little TOO CLOSE to the Friday the 13th movies ???? Its SOOOO SIMILAR! The names are similar Johnny/Jason. Looks practically Exactly like jason, put a hocky mask on Johnny and he would BE Jason, even down to how he's dressed! He walks like Jason. He doesn't talk/is mute like Jason. He's in the woods stalking people like Jason. Has no emotions like Jason. The back of his head looks very similar to Jason's. Hell, even Johnny's background story has to do with his mother similar to Jason's. To ME its one thing to be inspired by old 80s slashers and to pay homage to them but its an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THING to almost DIRECTLY COPY the WHOLE THING and ONLY change your camera angle while filming it, put a different mask in the killer, and slightly change the back story. Come on people, i cant be the ONLY ONE thinking this same thing. Look, I miss good old Jason too and it feels like FOREVER since we've seen one of most people's all time favorite slashers on the big screen sporting his good old hockey mask and hacking people up but are we all just so starved for another Jason movie that we're willing to except what really looks like to ME anyway a total rip-off of Friday the 13th ??? Could we all just be so hung up on the whole camera angle thing that it's blinding everyone to the fact that it's just a Friday the 13th movie with a different title and a different mask on the killer filmed in a third person point of view with kills that are a little more gory (if the kills are as gory as people are saying then they wouldn't be able to put them in a Friday13th movie anyway if they didn't want to go past/over an "R" rating) ??? It just seems a little disrespectful to Mr. Voorhees if you ask me. Who knows, maybe after I watch it I'll feel different but the similarities ARE UNCANNY and NO ONE can really argue/deny that!

    • @BrickQuake
      @BrickQuake 19 днів тому +1

      If this came out the same time as Friday the 13th I would agree with you as it being disrespectful, but since we haven’t had a F13 film in fifteen years other than poorly made fan films I’ll take this.

    There is social commentary to this movie and it’s main focus is on following, which is the current state of our society. Everywhere we look and listen and experience there’s someone, something telling us or insinuating to follow it, just press that button and follow us for this or for that. It can be something beautiful or something terrible and we go along with it. Johnny is a symbol for that and his kills are content, and the more and more you follow him the more the content becomes more elaborate and entertaining, the horror of this film, is that sometimes content is at the expense of someones pain and suffering and were amused by it wether we want to cancel it or subscribe to it but we are still tethered along for the ride once it has been acknowledged .

      I agree. I feel like some people are taking the kills and basing their perception of the movie on that. The chemistry between the actors was poor and you could feel that these people were reading lines and not really speaking as individuals. None of the characters really had any actual traits to them either. I also feel the whole 4:3 aspect added nothing to the film. It seemed like it was just a trendy thing to do. And what was the point of the ending story about a bear. It feels like it was supposed to serve as a parallel to what we watched but the connections are so minimal. The bear was supposedly a victim of henhouse basically killing just to kill, but Johnny obviously had a reason. Ultimately I feel the majority of the story being taken up by the killer, you almost don’t care about any of the characters dying. The park ranger was the most interesting one and he was barely in it.
