You surely need to plug/tape off the BB, head tube, seat tube, bottle cage mounts etc to stop paint getting into the threads and any press fit openings for cups etc? I have an old (mid 2000's) GT Aggressor I've turned into a brilliant "gravel" bike but the paintwork is pretty shabby so might give it a freshen up....
I have a Specialized Ellez that's 14 years old. I've been a cyclist since 47, now at 61 still going strong. My bike is black and has few marks and is in excellent condition. I've wanted to repaint it to its original color black.
Thanks for this. How long would you say the whole process took? I'm planning to repaint my kid's bike since he's inheriting it from his older brother. Want to make it feel new for him.
Did you let the primer and paint dry between coats? I’m a super beginner looking to repaint an old frame and this looks like the perfect method. Thanks!
+Halfway J I have used them, but more for removing rust when the frame is pitted. There’re rubber wheels that work well for removing paint though. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ✌️
+Ivan Gallardo did you sand and then clean? Cleaning the frame is the most important part. You can use dish soap. Hope that helps, thanks for the comment and checking out my video ✌️
Not with Tremclad, it’s a single stage paint so not ment for clear to go on top. I have another video where I did a base and then clear. Thanks for watching ✌️
+Derrick Thomas good point, I have a video on this channel where I stripped a frame right down to bare metal. This was just a quick paint job, done in a few hours. Thanks for watching.
im not sure to use paint stripper for aluminium frame. aluminium gets reacted with chemicals like acid or chlor but i think maybe exist paint remover for aluminium.

Good ideas about spraying all the hard to reach bits first, and the using a torch to spot any under painted areas
Thanks for this. Very clear. Consider using a cartridge based mask as the one you have will not filter out the kind of vapors you are exposed to here.
Yes, I agree. Especially if I start painting more frames. Thanks for checking my video ✌️
So you rebranded the frame? Norco/ into a canyon?
Subscribed! Really practical and eco-friendly tutorial. Everything was very basic.
If you a coat of clear coat paint it will protect your paint very well

Good paint job
+Samir Mohammed thanks!

Great point about doing the hard to reach spots first. It is the 'unnatural' way to do it.
Thanks! Glad you got something out of the video.

15mins between coats is all you need. No need to let each coat fully dry. Good luck with your project 👍
Could you use a metal brush wheel on your drill instead of sanding?
+Halfway J I have used them, but more for removing rust when the frame is pitted. There’re rubber wheels that work well for removing paint though. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ✌️
Great job, I’ve painted lots of steel frame bikes but no aluminum frames. So did you have to use a special primer for aluminum . Thanks
+E Holmes thanks! I just used an automotive primer and it is still holding up great. Thanks for watching ✌️
Do you not have to use clear over the tremclad? Nice work!
+Dave Brydon nope, tremclad is a “single stage paint” if you try and clear over it, the two might react badly and the paint could wrinkle.
Cheers for the video, did you wet sand at all between coats? The value on that bike went up with those decals.
Not on this one. I do sometimes between primer coats if they’re any scratches. Thanks for watching ✌️
Nice one!
Thanks 🤙
Not sanding it after the primer?
does matte black works?
100% would look nice imo
Where do you find Trim clad paint ?
Almost any hardware store. Hope that helps ✌️
i did the same things but my paint scrapes off easily and i also put clear gloss. at the end but all of the coats seem to peel easily.
is there somthing i should buy that will help the paint not fall off?

No clear coat ?

How much time do you wait between primer coats, how much time between main color paint coats, what about a clear coat, nothing is explained!!!!
+John Masters I thought I did 🤷♂️… 15 minutes between all coats 🤙. Thanks for watching

You need to look into kustom canz man!
Never heard of them, I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for watching ✌️

@etoe
Whoa whoa whoa. Mask up if you're sanding. Geez.
No clear coat?
Not if using Tremclad, it’s a single stage paint. Thanks for watching ✌️
