I don’t care what they say, I love her work. Angel of the morning will never get old. Those were the days when real singers dropped songs with positive lyrics
Totally agreed those were the days I mean even look at the videos you can see from that time period of the late 70s and early 80s that they had a style different bands of that era like hers that just had that clean look about him and they just had a better Outlook no tattoos no colored hair just you know what I mean decent looking people
She really got a lot of attention when one of her songs was in the movie, Deadpool. My 4 daughters immediately wanted to know what song that was and who sang it, so they could download it. They all drive now and there’s always a Juice Newton song blaring in their cars. I think that’s pretty cool.
Somehow, in the 80s I never thought about the fact that I'd never heard of anyone else named "Juice". Now when I look back, I chuckle every time I hear her name because of this. The eighties were a very different place and time!
The video says her name came from 'extended family' but I remember an interview in the 1980s where she herself said that her younger sibling couldn't say "Judy" and it came out as "Juicy". She liked it and adopted the name.
I remember going to a now-defunct record store in the early 1980s and seeing Juice Newton's album _Take Heart_ in one of the bins. I made two conclusions based on just looking at the album cover: 1) the lady had a very unusual first name, and 2) she was strikingly beautiful. The album remained in the bin for months until the release of _Juice,_ her "breakthrough" album. After one of the record store's employee's played part of "Angel of the Morning" for me I bought the album. The following day, I bought _Take Heart._ I've been a die-had Juice Newton fan ever since!
My family always enjoyed going to see Juice perform in concert. For several years, she performed at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, CA. One of my favorite stories from her (she told great stories between songs) was about her very expensive cowboy boots, that she wore "everywhere" because they were so expensive that she wanted to get full value use of them (and she would emphasize "everywhere"). I miss her concerts. I still keep her greatest hits CD, which we asked her to autograph when she played at the Palmdale Playhouse one year, in my car so I can listen to it as I travel.
In 1980 juice was playing in parkcity utah . My girl friend was working the front door . She heard juice wanted some ski lessons . So she volunteered me . I came down to the bar and met her on her break. I thought she was a super lady .... it's a heart ache ..... great song . Never did give her ski lessons .
My ex-boyfriend from high school is her fan club president. Literally. He was nuts about her and always wanted to meet her, and a few years later-he did! He’s been a friend of hers and fan club president, ever since. When we were dating, we saw Juice with Alabama, in Hartford, CT.
Back in the 80s, I was skiing in Crested Butte. It was the last run of a terrific day on the slopes. As we came down the mountain, we heard live music coming from below. At the base of the run was a giant bar called The Rafters which had a large 2nd story outdoor deck that looked over the hill to watch the skiers coming down. Shussing to a stop, we were thrilled to see a Juice Newton concert happening from the deck for us all to enjoy! As the sun slowly retreated over the gorgeous mountains, my buddy and I danced in our skis on the snow, sipping the wine from my boda bag, as Juice and her band sang to us in the crisp mountain air. THAT was an afternoon I won't forget.
"Whatever" is a compound word. Also, Juice shaved three years off her age, as actresses and singers often did before the Internet. She was born in 1949, not 1952.
I remember the song Queen of Hearts on an 8 track I had, used to crank it up, really great song. Angel of the Morning was another great song, then she just kind of disappeared, it happens a lot in the music industry.
She was making some noise here in VA Beach area when she was first starting out. Thanks for watching the video and I hope you will watch others and comment as well. Your thoughts are always welcomed.
Queen of Hearts... I'm sure for hardcore Juice fans this is cliche and will cause an eye roll or groan here or there but man, the song is an absolute all time forever classic song and one I will always be greatful for it 👏
Sometime back in either the late 1990s or early 2000s, she put on a free concert in Kingston, Ontario right around the corner from where I lived. My late wife and I really enjoyed it at the time.
Love Juice!!!! Was a lot of fun years later when one of my buddies was playing Shaggy which sampled some of Angel of the Morning. Reignited my Juice Love again.
Otha, Juice and Tom played "in residence" in a restaurant bar in Colorado Springs in the very early '70's. As an employee of the restaurant I had the good fortune to enjoy their music many times and occasionally one, two or all three would join us for a drink during their set break or after closing. Nice people, hard-working and very talented. I remember remarking to friends that it must be incredibly hard to make it in the music business because Juice clearly had the voice, the musical talent, and stage presence. Her cover of "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" was the best of anyone. Better than the original Dylan, or Ronstadt or Emmy Lou. Hope she's doing well.
@@CMSProductions come on guys what about Jimmie Rodgers, the Carter Family and the Arkansas Barefoot Boys. Now that is country not this so called pap pop!
I didn't listen to C&W music back then, but I saw her video on MTV and 1st discovered her. I just heard her birthday here on your video and I was surprised that she is the same age as I am. I always thought she was much younger than myself as she was so beautiful. She just looked like that to me.
She is still a cutie, very popular in the Tidewater area in the 70's and I had the pleasure seeing her in a bar called Country Comfort on Pacific Ave in Va Beach, 1979.
Wish someone would release some more footage of her,in the earlier days, there also was a lack,of merch, such as posters, guitar picks, etc.yet bands like Kiss, had too much
In the winter of 83-84 ,if memory serves me right, I met and had a drink with Juices' tour bus driver in a small hotel in Destin Florida. He said we could go downstairs for more drinks. I thought I was going to meet Juice. He ended up just showing me the tour bus where drinks were free. Juice and the crew had continued on with other modes of transportation and he was on his way to meet them at the next venue. Biggest buzzkill of my life.
I haven't seen Juice Newton since sometime in, I believe, the mid(?) '70's in the Bay Area [San Francisco] while playing with my late wife, Lisa Kindred and then with Billy Roberts.
@@CMSProductions, So's Barry Melton. Unfortunately, Penny Nichols, Mary McCaslin, Tim Hardin, Billy Roberts, amongst too many others, that I've played with, are no longer with us. The trouble with being the same exact age as Bob Dylan, is there are fewer and fewer of us left behind.

It looks like she worked very hard to get her success. At the time, I was immersed in New wave and I preferred the Dave Edmunds version of Queen of Hearts. Also, it was hard for me to not recall the original “Angel…” and compare vocal strength. But I do respect her hard work and musicianship many years later. I do wonder how a New Jersey native that grew up in Los Altos (SF Bay Area) acquired that country accent 🤓.
