How are you not a UA-cam celebrity by now? Those algorithms aren't catching on.

This is great, everything I needed to hear. The e865 sounds very detailed and really shows the unrefined character of the SM58 by comparison. The comparison to the '58 is ideal, I think just about every live engineer "knows" that mic inside out. Thanks for sharing!

Hello! I'm Brazilian, I don't understand English very well. So I could not understand if the e865 is better than sm 58. I have the money to buy one of them, I just have to choose. Could you tell me which one is better for live stage recordings on a separate voice channel? I intend to record my voice and guitar shows, on separate channels, singing and playing guitar in bars. Which microphone is best for recording? Thanks!

@@giovannigodoy.oficialOi Giovanni sou brasileiro, tenho o SM58 original e te recomendo ele para uso no palco, pois se trata de um microfone resistentissimo, pratico e com otima rejeição de ruidos.

Smooth sennheiser... Stage. Smooth Earthworks SV33... Broadcast. Live with record capabilities. SM58 just a base reference. Excellent review as always. Thanks.

I hate to say this but I think you said Heiser is a fake. The Henley noise itself is a reason to think it is not a Sennheiser it is too loud. Printing on the body is too wide and soft. On the head inside there should be a holographic silver sticker which is not present on your microphone. There should also be another identification sticker on the top with a number. There should be some printing above the threads what yours does not have. The rubber gasket around the head seems to be too light. You said you picked this up from a second hand shop and still you have the nerve to treat it as being an original. Who knows, it might be. It might be.

You may be right but I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of faking such an inexpensive and unknown mic, with all the condenser electronics. Much easier and more profitable to fake an SM58, not an 865... with a switch!!!

Amazing review. That was great when you checked the cardoid pattern and went through the frquency resopnse. Helpful and educational. Incredible video from start to finish.

Sounds like it's just a _very_ safe mic.
It doesn't have the character of an sm58 nor the very detailed sound like the Neumann.
It may be a bit "boring" sounding but one that works on many voices in many types of productions and very easy to shape with a bit of EQ to maybe sound a bit more presence.
A true ace of all spades, master of none.
Certainly great if your mic will be in the hands of inexperienced people.
My voice personally is very sibilant and doesn't extend very much on the low side so I think I found my perfect sub-250 mic.
    Thank you for your review!

Thank you, a very interesting point. The mic looks and sounds err... sober!

Damn the SV33 sounds so much better but then I looked at the price and knew I couldn’t afford it 😢

Yes, it is expensive and a bit of a specialist tool but it does the run-of-the-mill stuff too.

Amazing the diaphragm is covered! Interesting design. So you sing on it in an angle not straight axis?

    • @AntonBrowne

Not necessarily, I've seen some others like this. It may be designed that way to accommodate inexperienced talkers on mic. I don't know.

Tenha certeza de que o 865 é melhor para gravar.

    Hm
This video is kind of selling me on that SV33. Maybe I should look into getting that one instea- oooooooh.... Maybe not. Googling the price to find it's in the $2-3K range instead of $250 of the Sennheiser or $100-150 for the SM58.
Maybe I should learn to do EQ settings instead. That sounds a lot cheaper. :D

You could try the Earthworks SR117.
