Coming from an Angels fan, that has got to be one of the best postseason series ever. Coming back from losing 3 games to winning the next 4 is absolutely incredible.

Where as back then, people in New England were cynical about the Red Sox and were always waiting for the other shoe to drop. They always had a little bit of childish hope but they had been let down so many times in the past.
Also it’s crazy how so many big games come down to the smallest things. If Ortiz triple in game 1 has 3 more feet on it it’s a 3 run hr and the game is tied. Judging by the Red Sox momentum late in the game they could’ve easily won that one. Series starts with Red Sox up 1-0. Completely different vibe.
After game 3 and them losing game 4 before the comeback, I just really started accepting defeat and compartmentalizing everything. "okay if they get this hit, they can tie." I was just happy it wasn't a sweep. The next game, i was happy they won another. Game 6, I really thought it was unreal. Game 7 was something of a tease thinking we'd lose. But every.single.play mattered and if any play went the other way, it would be a different story. This really was like a feel-good movie script.
Joseph Pretorius both of these teams were roid-fueled offensive juggernauts, they just had to find a place in the field to play some of these power hitters, where they wouldn’t cost you too many runs

Ortiz got flagged in 2003 and was probably clean because he was being watched. Roger Clemens, Giambi, and Karim Garcia were no longer Yankees. I think Manny was clean. Mussina, Schilling, and Pedro were definitely clean. Sheffield was flagged earlier so was probably clean because he was being monitored.

I remember being on vacation with my family in Mexico during the series. I was a 12 year old Mariners fan, watching the games in random sports bars in Puerto Vallarta. Most exciting baseball I've ever watched in my life, great memory. I think aside from Yankee fans, basically everyone in America (and Mexico) became a Red Sox fan during that series
Haha liar. Mexico had minimal interest in baseball let alone become Sox fans. I lived there back then. Now it's grown more but back then it wasn't very big, even though the 03 and 04 series were big.

Boston sports fans had an unforgettable 20 year run with the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Truly a City of Champions in pro sports. I remember in the 1990's when I was there and we were basement dwellers and it was depressing.
Tom Brady, David Ortiz, Paul Pierce. True legends that made all of that possible. If Pierce demanded a trade, no chips. Brady & Ortiz weren’t clutch then no chips. Special era that meant so much to an area with nothing but misery (for years).
David Ortiz (as Tom Brady) was a WINNER. The times where it mattered most, when it was needed most, when it was most implausible, are when he “showed up”! Some players simply CAN’T win the big one (great stats/regular seasons/career but gone when truly needed). Not David. He was a genuine inspiration. Unlike Brady, he’s still the affable, charming, charismatic, man he’s always been (AND he thrives as an example of successful immigration)! I’m so proud to be his supporter and I hope for nothing short of the best for him! Kudos, Mr. Ortiz! 👍🤟🙏

You gotta give it to Dave Roberts he stole that base and the way he ran from second all the way home was amazing, he was a bullet. However none of this could have been possible without our Big Papi David Ortiz. I swear you don't know how hard it was to be a Red Sox fan up until 2004. The amount of times we got soooo closed and would lose was heartbreaking. Just the year before this in 2003 we were 5 outs away from going to the World Series when Grady Little decided to leave Pedro Martinez in. After we lost that game it felt like my hear was shredded to pieces. Watching every game possible dedicating all this time getting your hopes up to just see them lose at the end was heartbreaking. I swear we deserved that 2004 World Series after all the pain us Red Sox fans had been through it was well deserved. It was great re watching this after all these years, man the Yankees were a powerhouse of a team. Just hearing all those great names again you remember how exciting and competitive games use to get. I would give anything to relieve those times.

I was 9 at the time and I still remember the greatest ALDS my uncle was a Yankees fan he bullied me the whole time but I never lost faith, I still watch the whole series and I get goosebumps all over

I’m so,so, proud to be a supporter of his! Sporting all the charm and charisma he’s always shown, now he’s a great BROADCASTER (again, in a different language than that w/which he grew up)! A frustrated Red Sox fan for my entire 35 years in 2004, I’d grown comfortable w/the “fact” that Boston could never win a baseball championship. It was the way it was. That’s life. The playoff run that proved momentum is real. The 0-3 comeback and then swept/dominated a 105 win Cardinals team with ease. People forget how great the Cardinals were that year and they didn't stand a chance.
I was at that 14 inning game 5 in Fenway with my uncle. Was 12 years old. Don’t really watch baseball anymore but come back to watch this sometimes for the nostalgia.

Its probably just nostalgia, but this was as good as sports has ever been to me, and Ive been so spoiled. Seen the patriots win 6 super bowls, kevin garnett yell anything is impossible, grew up a gators fan and watched them win back to back march madness and tebow look like a super hero. But it never got better than this. Probably the happiest moment of my life.
This was undoubtedly the most magical time to be a Red Sox fan.. 2003/2004 You could not buy a ticket to get into Fenway those years the entire season..It felt like it would never end especially when they won again in 2007.. City of Champions !! Can't wait for the next one
I didn't become a baseball/Dodgers fan til 2009 but one of the few things i remember from my high school years was seeing my teacher (big Sox fan) and classmate (big Yankees fan) trash talking each other before class. It had to be about this series. Its crazy how many ties the Dodgers have to the players from this series. Joe Torre eventually became our manager and Dave Roberts is our current manager.
The Red Sox-Yankees games back in the late 90s - early 2000s was something else. The regular season games felt like the playoffs when they were battling it out for 1st in the AL East. Then to have back to back years of 7 game ALCS with the Red Sox-Yankees was just insane. To come back from an 0-3 deficit against that Yankees team was the impossible. After the Red Sox won that series you knew they were going to win the WS.
This is some amazing baseball!!! My dad, a lifelong Red Sox fan, was going wild when this was happening. As an Astros fan, I hope they can pull off the same feat in 2020 after being down 3-0. Tomorrow they play game 7 and am looking forward to seeing if they can win in Red Sox 2004 fashion.
Time continues to prove what all of us in New England knew at the time: this was the greatest playoff series and greatest comeback in professional sports history. 💯
In my mind the 2003 ALCS and the 2004 ALCS are inexorably linked. I'm still upset that Grady Little left Pedro in when he was obviously gassed. And the next year we get all this other crazy shit. I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, so I'm obviously biased, but these 2 years seem like baseball at its peak. Even though we've won 3 more World Series since 2004, this was the one that broke 86 years of futility.

I was 9 at the time and I still remember the greatest ALDS my uncle was a Yankees fan he bullied me the whole time but I never lost faith, I still watch the whole series and I get goosebumps all over

This is the series that got me into baseball. I started watching it because of the NHL lockout. Talk about insane.
07foxmulder The lockout was pathetic. I remember buying the EA NHL game for that year lol. I played the ps2 version online on my PS3. Same with Madden 06 ps2 since Madden 07 on PS3 was AWFUL.

This series is the defining moment in a Red Sox' Fans life. We bested the Yankees after spotting them 3 wins. The rivalry was now really a rivalry... This brought some balance to the 2000s....

Incredible way to reverse the curse coming back from 0-3 & against the Yankees! Ortiz story alone is amazing released from the twins to a clutch legend. Most exciting series ever. Only other in my lifetime is the Mets comeback in game 6 against again the Sox.

Imagine how the Yankees, their fans, and management felt when after that last out they realized they blew a 3 game lead... I mean "wow".
The playoff run that proved momentum is real. The 0-3 comeback and then swept/dominated a 105 win Cardinals team with ease. People forget how great the Cardinals were that year and they didn't stand a chance.
I was at that 14 inning game 5 in Fenway with my uncle. Was 12 years old. Don’t really watch baseball anymore but come back to watch this sometimes for the nostalgia.

Its probably just nostalgia, but this was as good as sports has ever been to me, and Ive been so spoiled. Seen the patriots win 6 super bowls, kevin garnett yell anything is impossible, grew up a gators fan and watched them win back to back march madness and tebow look like a super hero. But it never got better than this. Probably the happiest moment of my life.

This was undoubtedly the most magical time to be a Red Sox fan.. 2003/2004 You could not buy a ticket to get into Fenway those years the entire season..It felt like it would never end especially when they won again in 2007.. City of Champions !! Can't wait for the next one

I didn't become a baseball/Dodgers fan til 2009 but one of the few things i remember from my high school years was seeing my teacher (big Sox fan) and classmate (big Yankees fan) trash talking each other before class. It had to be about this series. Its crazy how many ties the Dodgers have to the players from this series. Joe Torre eventually became our manager and Dave Roberts is our current manager.

The Red Sox-Yankees games back in the late 90s - early 2000s was something else. The regular season games felt like the playoffs when they were battling it out for 1st in the AL East. Then to have back to back years of 7 game ALCS with the Red Sox-Yankees was just insane. To come back from an 0-3 deficit against that Yankees team was the impossible. After the Red Sox won that series you knew they were going to win the WS.

This is some amazing baseball!!! My dad, a lifelong Red Sox fan, was going wild when this was happening. As an Astros fan, I hope they can pull off the same feat in 2020 after being down 3-0. Tomorrow they play game 7 and am looking forward to seeing if they can win in Red Sox 2004 fashion.

In my mind the 2003 ALCS and the 2004 ALCS are inexorably linked. I'm still upset that Grady Little left Pedro in when he was obviously gassed. And the next year we get all this other crazy shit. I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, so I'm obviously biased, but these 2 years seem like baseball at its peak. Even though we've won 3 more World Series since 2004, this was the one that broke 86 years of futility.
