  • Global talks on a climate funding agreement are on the brink of collapse after representatives of developing countries walked out of a COP29 meeting en masse. Wealthy countries had reportedly offered more than $450 billion per year by 2035 but lower-income nations argued the commitment fell far short of the required amount to combat climate change. The UTS Centre for Climate Risk and Resilience’s researcher Mona Mashhadi Rajabi says developing countries were expecting $1.3 trillion and their walkouts were a ‘sign of dissatisfaction’ rather than a withdrawal in protest.
