- Sophie K chats to Neil Fallon of rock 'n' rollers Clutch shortly after their set at Wacken 2022 about the band's ability to fit in on festival bills from all over the alternative genre, their new album Sunrise on Slaughter Beach and how they recorded it differently to usual, experimenting with new instrumentation this many years into their career, and their longevity.

I genuinely think they are the best band walking the earth at this moment in time .
and the last 30 years!
@@davidk6514 Rockville? I saw them live there and they fucking killed it. Even got a beer from this dad because I dealt with a drunk who was fucking with his daughter
Fo sho!
One of the last real rock bands around.
@@davidk6514 love All Them Witches , going to see them on UK 🇬🇧 tour in Nottingham 👍
This is one of the best interviews I've seen. She didn't ask dumb questions and Neil never gives a bad answer. It's a total win on all fronts.
Completely agree
Clutch are a very special band! Much love & respect to these guys!
"Unapologetic lifers for rock n' roll."
Neil Fallon is a brilliant singer / lyrical genius & killer frontman. Clutch should be headlining every festival - seen them live a lot over the years & they keep getting better & showing the young lads how it’s done 😬🤘👍
Never quit Neil. Never quit. One of the greatest rock bands around.
Only found out about Clutch today and I'm immediately hooked.
Welcome to the life 🤗🤘⚙️
What a shining exemplar of how a man is supposed to be!!!!!....CLUTCH ARE KINGS!!!🤘🤘
Neil is a awesome guy. It's great to see him get more humble with every year that goes by. It is hard to believe that he was a local band to me at one time. Right out of Germantown Maryland. I have seen them in many clubs before they made it big.
back in the day he was certainly an angry young man
I remember those days 💪. Can’t believe they’re still doing it.
God tier band.
He’s such a sweet humble man. I admit I’m shocked. I bet he has a beautiful family and is just normal. I admit I have a huge crush on Clutch and it’s members. Rock on guys, I love you.
In 1995 I was 14 years old, and didn't care for music, generally speaking. My father loves bluegrass and my mother never listens to music. My cousin introduced me to Clutch and it was unlike anything I had heard. I was immediately gripped. At this point, I'm uncertain how many times I've seen Clutch perform. Just saw them again in Raleigh a few weeks ago. When Neil spoke about the long term fans, I felt that. I hope I get to continue going to their shows long into the future.
Best band in the world!
Have seen them a dozen times, at least, and every time they have been amazing.
Been a huge Clutch fan since the self titled album in about 92.
Best Clutch/NF interview I’ve ever seen! Amazing band, still putting out great stuff nearly 30 yrs later
Great interview and interviewer
I noticed Clutch is playing different setlists in every festival this year, i don't know if they always have done that, but nowadays feels like an oasis in the desert, most bands are playing exactly the same for months, what's not wrong but there's no surprise element. I watched Clutch for the first time in Brutal Assault this year, loved it! You guys have a new fan ❤️
Update 11.03.23: I saw them a second time December last year as they came to my town (Stuttgart), again a surprise! I had the privilege to listen Spacegrass live! Can't wait to see them again this Summer
Clutch always change their setlist every show. I've been listening to them for almost 30 years and have never seen the same set twice.
Never the same set list. They usually have songs that they play as mainstays on a single tour, but it's never the same. I think I read somewhere that they rotate through each four band members writing a set before each show.
@@elizabethjenkins7408 Amazing! I knew a few songs, but after seeing them live, i feel like i found a true gem!
@@7davesanchez i love it, i'm gonna see them live every time i can. I also love that they play Black Sabbath ❤️
I saw an interview with Jean Paul and he said they take turns writing the setlist... so it changes daily
I just love that I can now as an adult buy records and see shows of a band that was so formative in my childhood. I'm glad they take care of themselves, so many stars are dying before I get a chance to see them.
I took my best friend to clutch right before he passed away from Cancer. We all loved it. It’s an experience!!!
This was an awesome interview, way to go Sophie! The questions were refreshing, I laughed out loud at few of Neil's responses to them. I'm over here stressing raising my 6 year old and Neil is looking at it like a science experiment. 😆 I am sure he is going to ace this one! Clutch has never had a bad album or show and I appreciate how they aren't putting out the exact same album over and over again. By far the greatest band around.🔥
What a gentlemen Neil is,....great interview. Clutch are one of my favorites and they actually make me proud to say I'm an American.
Had the pleasure of meeting some of the production guys recently , total gentlemen and really hard working . Spending a little time with them gave me a fascinating insight into what goes on behind the scenes and it’s full on hard work. Great band and crew , looking forward to seeing them in Manchester England soon
Just seen them in Raleigh for the umpteenth time . They never disappoint. Especially everyone they have as the openers .
JD Pinkus . Very trippy and cool .
Great interview, Sophie avoided the tired old cliches in favour of intelligent questions. I'm subscribing!
Yup.
What a giggly girlie interviewer. A bit more professionalism to match with Neil's approach.
Having just seen them last night in Kansas City at the Uptown Theater I am as happy and content as possible. The show with Clutch, Helmet, and Quicksand was fabulous. The fact that Clutch is still doing it and putting out new material of substance is a marvelous achievement. I truly wish them all the best and thank you for doing what you do. You’ve brought me countless hours of happiness enjoying your art. Cheers!!
What a humble down to earth dude. I fucking love Clutch.
*MD PRIDE* 🖤💛♥️🤍
Neil popped in to my coffee shop in MD (in 2016) with his family, he was so gracious and kind while I geeked. His wife giggled but the whole family was sweet. He signed a cup for me and even put me on the list for their show at 9:30 Club later that month. All of these guys are stand up humans and I’m grateful to each of them for the dedication to their craft.
*GOD SAVE CLUTCH*
Great to a see an artist so humble and professional, I only found Clutch a year ago. Best discovery for me in decades. Thank you.
" A nr1 hit is the worst thing that can happen. Especially right out of the gates." Very true. I've been to half a dusin Clutch concerts and they always plays hits like Mob Goes Wild and Spacegrass but it is never a dead theatre when they play other songs or even new songs they havent released yet. People who attend knows their portfolio and can jam along when they experiment with a somewhat obscrure track.
I can't understand why this doesn't have more likes CLUTCH RULES!!!!!!
This band been a long love affair of mine for a long time .... Never disappoints and have gotten me through some of the darkest times ive ever faced so far. I have no doubt these guys will be around with their intense vibes and electric energy to catch me if I ever get this close to the land of 'The Nothing' again.
If I make it through the darkness or we happen to run into each other around the corner. We will toast to the stamina they have had to endure through the changing times.
Gold records?? ... platinum baby! Platinum!
P.S. Ill bring the wine 🍷✌😇
I met my wife in 2002 when I was just discovering Clutch. 20 years later, they are still both our favorite band!
I saw Clutch twice and would love to see them again. Come to NC again soon!
I was thinking I bet he says Cormac McCarthy, then,,,,,, he said Cormac McCarthy. Man, I listen to Clutch way too much. One of the greats.
i love clutch, above any other music act. even have "6 harpies are singin to the lee" on my arm. (from big news, self titled album)
Absolutely a great interview!
THANKS FOR SAYING THAT
I've listened to Clutch since the late 90's until now...Keep up the AWESOME work Clutch!!!
Clutch Rocks!🤘
Definitely a great live show, I've seen them 6 times.
I found Clutch with the Blast Tyrant album and never looked back. They’re like the preachers of rock. Get up and dance in the aisles and testify!
Just amazing..what a man and musician!
Really enjoyed this interview. Thanks!!
Most down-to-earth rocker, no pretense.
Clutch and The Melvins. 2 bands that have only done exactly what they wanted and nothing else . If you want to go along for the ride great . But if not, they aren't going to chase you .
their show in France this summer was absolutely mind blowing
Brilliant interview
Big time long time clutch fan love this
Long Live Clutch
Best band out there... everything they do is killer.
space grass is the only crap song
Handsome male for sure and amazing band as a whole, love love love this band. Setlist was awesome in Raleigh, NC
Great, great book question Sophie. Fun!
I also love Clutch!!!
Clutch is the greatest band of all time. I got rid of social media too, it is truly freeing.
Great interview! I love Neil Fallon.
Humble Understated legend 🤟🏼
You are all awesome
If you are a true witness, a genuine watcher, or one with eyes to see, you will know that there has never been a more relevant rock band than clutch. Neil's poetic prophecy in time with the instruments of his brothers reveals a great truth about this world that very few actually understands.
Neil Fallon for president!
Always the consummate professional. Great interview Neil!
I'm loving how this interviewer is really digging Neil Fallon! She definitely did her homework, great interview! Btw I have a grown ass woman crush on Neil Fallon 😍🤣💚♾️🎤🎶
Awesome dude, awesome band, great interview. Can't wait to hear the new album.
That was a good interview.
I've loved Clutch since I first listened to spacegrass when I was 15 I'm now 40 and have never heard of a better band great live and I have never heard 1 bad song or a song I don't like. Rock on love clutch
We will be taking out kids to their show in Portland! We’ve been going to clutch shows since early 2000’s can’t wait to expose our kiddos!
New album is killer!
Keep doing the stuff you want cos it is certainly working. Looking forward to Newcastle City Hall in November.. Cant wait !!
Seen them a dozen or so times..from their first tour on.. Hail Clutch
Fantastic interview.
When you’re good you’re just good, and it’ll transcend genres.
Sophie is a fantastic interviewer.
Nice! I live in Delaware and had no idea the name was in reference to my beach. Just thought it was a happy coincidence.
i would love to hear some Mod Synth on a Clutch album!
Ha, fuckin yes. Let's see what the next album brings...
What a super nice guy!
Great interview.
Best band going!
She’s awesome
Books and films have ending but Clutch will reign eternal.
CLUTCH = BAD ASS MUSIC PERIOD
Neil and I have opposite graying of the beard. Proof that he is my doppelganger
Fucking love Clutch! What other band keeps getting better 3 decades on?
Tim Sult going for a leak at 1:28 XD
Elephant riders sold me on these guys
Great interviewer
@ 1:30 Howdy Tim!😄
ALL HAIL THEE ALMIGHTY CLUTCH
Rocks nicest human that Neil!!!!
Unless they add to their schedule, this will be the first time in a while that I won't get to see them in Ohio on New Years Eve. Fingers crossed things change. 🤞
me too Neil, I replaced social media with Synthesis.
As a guy with an MA in English lit who has never had a job anywhere near English and just work with my hands, I identify with that laugh.
Neil's speaking voice is like Robert Downey Jr. Doing a Nic Cage impression
Best band in the world 👍
Neil rules. CLUTCH rules. So does Lionize btw
cooooool
He wanted to say Blood Meridian in answer to the boom question, even eluded to the bad ending...
Run of the mill domestic tranquility
Neil is the bast
I miss the days of seeing clutch at gumbys for $5 what a dump but that's what made the place amazing
I wonder if they've seen the sunrise at slaughter Beach I have
its hard to put out a one hit when all there stuff is a hit with me
Neil is such a rad dude for lack of a better term.
Great answers.
I like that he gave the "best answer ever" and then was immediately stumped. LOL
I appreciate the fact that he gets his information from books and not social media.
I like the interviewer, but those antiquated, cheesy gimmicks hanging off her head were distracting in a really obnoxious, flashy way.
