    Just bought this trap earlier today at my local outdoors store. Wanted to get away from the treadle. This trap is much higher quality than what I have used in the past.

      @@jayjarrell2454 Nice! I believe it will serve you very well. On cheaper traps, the treadle definitely works however, they are often made from thin or even flimsy materials that larger raccoons especially can do a lot of damage to. This design eliminates that problem.

    • @jayjarrell2454

      I constantly have to re-bend the pieces that activate the treadle. Raccoons do so much damage once you catch them.

    Nice looking trap. I really like the simplicity of the mechanics of it, less to malfunction. Just an idea but, you could bend some steel rods with a hook on the end to keep the cage from rolling. I used some rods for small fencing I bought at a farm store to keep a stove wind screen upright. Happy trapping and good luck this season.

    I’ve been an animal control officer for 25 years. I’ve trapped everything from flying squirrels to black bears. I’m gonna have to check this company out because you’re spot on about Hava heart traps getting tore up by big raccoons

    How does that trap trigger far against the wind?
    Does it easily cause it to trip?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  2 роки тому +1

      It holds well with no issues. I have tinkered with it a good bit and it can be set to a hair trigger with just a little manipulation. I have caught a few animals in it but I haven't put it out for a big ringtail yet. I can't wait to see how it works for that. Thanks for tuning in!

    Instead of a trap can you use a snare for your trapping

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Steven, in my area, snares are only allowed in very limited circumstances. It wouldn't be possible to trap coons legally that way. I do have them on hand for a rainy day however. Thanks for tuning in!

    Matt, would love to know the last coordinates from the PAUL mapping contest that was held at the Pathfinder gathering this year. I’ve got an answer and would love to know what the final answer was. I believe I came up with 280 degrees for 100M back to camp. Thanks for your uploads!!

    Exactly what benefits do u receive for trapping Racoons,just curious,are the pelts worth cash,or do u eat coon.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  2 роки тому +4

      Yes sir, they can be be processed for the food and the fur is exceptional. Also, they have glands that make great lure for other predators and also a ton of fat which can be used as tallow. Most of the animals I catch get let loose but with the cages, that is an easy decision to makes after examining the catch. Thank you for your time and interest!
