- Eugene Thayer (1838-1889) was a student of John Knowles Paine who subsequently studied in Germany. He was a prolific composer but like most of the 19th American organ composers, his work largely fell from favor over time. Charles Ives wrote his Variations on America to poke fun at Thayer and Dudley Buck. This work won't be remembered in the pantheon of great organ music, but it is fun to play, a bit over the top, and a hit with listeners. I hope you enjoy! The organ is 1966 Flentrop 2/33, St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
