    Thank you so much for covering this. I have an idea for a campaign with the system already. Gonna base it off Spiderman Web of Shadows. :D

    Ik it's to match up with the world number but I also feel like the 666 system where 3 sixes is an ultimate fantastic success would be better placed in a much different game lmao

      Such as Shadow of the Demon Lord but that used a d20 and d6 system.

    Marvel Heroic was great. Very flexible and loose, so you can make any kind of hero with all kinds of powers and play out any kind of superhero action scene. I struggle with crunchier supers games, as they never seem to be a good fit for the genre and too restrictive in many ways.

    I forgot about this! I don't remember being too thrilled with some of the mechanics last time I checked in on it, I also wasn't thrilled that you had to pay to get into the playtest.

      I had a similar experience... I got the playtest book and remember not being too impressed with it. Making this video makes me want to go dig it up and see what changed.

      I didn't do a super deep dive, but they streamlined quite a bit. I think it falls short in some areas and leans a little too hard on "DMs make it up and make it work at your table" in certain spots, but overall it seems okay if you're willing to bend a bit and lean into the genre tropes

    • @Maliloki
      @Maliloki 11 місяців тому +3

      And also, yeah, the absurd price for a playtest was a HUGE turnoff, but I later found out that I got access to it with my Marvel Unlimited subscription, so I was able to take a peek

    Seems neat albeit toned down for simplicity version of Mutants and Masterminds. Weird marvel dice aside (dice probability seems weird because of it) I think my biggest reservation just from watching the video is a lack of sort of in-between advancement for player characters. Just seems weird in this kind of setting/system they don’t give you a way to slowly progress to the other ranks. Going from Spider-man to Thor level seems a little sudden in game but then again its like that in the comics as well lol. But Im still interested in looking at it.

      It definitely has less of a focus on character advancement than M&M. I tend to not go into my Pros and Cons in these "Should You Play" videos, but probably my biggest con is you can't alter the powers (which I do mention a little in the video). I like how in M&M you can use Extras and Limitations (I think those are the terms) to alter what powers do and you can spend points to level them up and make them better.
      That said, M&M is VERY cruchy... it has much more crunch than some people may wish for, and if you just want to play Marvel characters as they are written, then Marvel Multiverse may be a good bet.

    • @gerglefinn8281
      @gerglefinn8281 11 місяців тому +1

      @@HowItsPlayedYea M&M is very crunchy and you are correct about Extras and Flaws. Which I feel like a better core rulebook would help with M&M but even so this definitely seems like a pretty good alternative if you want a more narrative focused superhero game without getting bogged down by certain rules in M&M (like how damage works, Im still miffed about how that works.)

      You could easily slowly add the powers and such over time instead of just jumping to the next Rank and adding all at once.

    I’m trying to read this, and I can see why some of the mechanical decisions got made…but there’s something that just isn’t clicking for me with this system.

    One question: did I miss where it stated that, for example, Spider-Man was Max rank 4? Is that on his sheet, or are you just assuming that since the printed profile had him at rank 4 that's his Max rank?

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  8 місяців тому +2

      It's not an official stat listed on the character sheet, but it is referred to in a few places. "Most Marvel characters are already at the highest rank they can be. Spider-Man (for instance) is never going to be as powerful as Thor, no matter how many adventures he goes on." And, "When creating a hero, it’s often best to start out with the rank cap in mind. For instance, if you want your hero to have adventures like Spider-Man, you should set a rank cap of 4."

      Demiplane definitely have a Marvel Multiverse Nexus (since Demiplane supports many different systems, each Nexus is a system container)at least.

    It's a fun game, but it already needs a 2nd edition. It's missing key mechanics like "vehicles" and such. A lot of rules are also vague. But overall I've had a blast playing the game!

      Very true... a lot of the interpretation of the narrative falls firmly on the GM's shoulders. This may be a great thing for groups with a lot of GM-trust, but not so great for players who want finite, definite results for their actions.

      This system is very customizable because it's simple. And fits the spirit of the comics very well. Savage it's complex in my opinion.

    Personally, from what I've seen about this game I'm not so keen. No character advancement, no skills (just rolling against attributes I think, or if a skill is needed it's a power I think) and little to look forward to. All the pc's and npc heroes are already maxed out except for going to the next super hero rank when the players and GM decide they want to. This game is probably perfect for many players out there, it's just not my cup of tea.

    • @HowItsPlayed
      @HowItsPlayed  11 місяців тому +2

      That's similar to my feelings as well. I think if you want to play a Marvel character in a Marvel adventure, then it'll provide a satisfying experience. If you want to create your own character and experience the fun of customizing them and leveling up, then this system isn't the best option.
