Such a fun video! I live in Oslo and you hit my favs (Garntopia and Pickles). And I love that you noticed all the knits 'in the wild'- almost everyone knits here so it's very common to spot knitted garments. And if you head into a coffee shop you will almost always see people knitting :)
I usually don't enjoy watching these long videos where knitters visit stores and talk a lot about them, but yours Amy I enjoyed from beginning to end and I would definitely watch many more from your trip!! I really love watching your videos, thanks for sharing all of this with us!
this was so much fun to watch and brought back memories of my trip to Oslo a few years ago. Oslo is truly a knitting Mecca! I bought a ridiculous amount of yarn while I was there and made a lot of very nice garments. Thanks for posting! 🤗
Thanks for taking us along with you - this was so much fun to watch. I'm sure you were so excited spotting the garments in the wild. Great yarn choices.
Always fun to get an outside perspective on our yarn stores (and brands/qualities). :) Knitting has always been a fairly widespread hobby in Norway, but it's caught on more with the younger crowd over the last few years and now it seems like EVERYONE is knitting - possibly it hit an additional uptick during the pandemic, when a lot of local yarn stores offered same-day personal deliveries - they would take orders and just drive around and deliver purchases at the door for desperate customers on lock-down, it was a way for them to stay in business when physical shopping was not an option.
Oh my!!! So many yarn stores in a weekend! That wonderful wall of knitting for olive yarn! So pretty. It looks like you made some great choices. Can't wait to see what you make (& how you fit everything in your suitcase!) 💜 Thx for sharing the prices. That sunset on top of the opera house was beautiful. 💙
Thank you for all your suggestions and the coverage of the shops, as well as explaining the VAT process. I will be in Oslo in Sept and look forward to some yarn shopping!
Knitting community is quite large, and larger every week! ❤ unfortunately we have just few stationary yarn shops, but online shops are stocked really well with high quality yarn!
So nice to see that you had a good time in our capital. Beautiful yarns you got. Hillesvåg tinde is a great yarn! Wishing you a wonderful rest of your stay in Polan. Thanx for sharing your trip🥰
Hi! I just wanted to say that Grünerløkka (which is my neighborhood) is actually adjacent to the city centre (the eastern part of the centre, which has a lot of cafés etc.), so not far away at all 😊. It's a ten minute walk from Oslo City (the mall) to where the Grünerløkka borough starts and you can also take a tram there that takes about five minutes from the central station and then continues up through the area. Maybe you got there in a bit of a roundabout way because you were driving - many streets are closed or one way for cars. Glad you had a good time in Oslo and found so many nice shops!
This is a wealth of info on yarn shops in Oslo. My husband was there recently, so based on your info I knew exactly where to send him to get some nice Norwegian wool I’ve been eyeing from here in the San Francisco. The VAT info was useful as well. Thanks!
I discovered your channel by accident and am so glad I did! Your content and presentation are done well. I am looking forward to more videos and your travel vlogs!
Gorgeous yarns! I love these updates, saving all the shops in my Google maps for the future! When you held up the pink yarn to your face it looked like it would really suit you, I'm voting for a scarf or shawl!
Love Tinde! The wool is form another breed of sheep. Pelsull(peltwool) has a bit more of a glow than normal wool. Hillesvåg also have Sølje, Varde and Blåne 😊
I'm heading to Oslo next year (fingers crossed!) and this was super helpful in helping me plan my trip. I probably won't be able to go to as many shops since I'll be with my family and kiddo, but this helped me narrow down my list. Many thanks for all your details and insights.
So impressed with the way you pronouns the scandinavian words ☺️🙌 And great video about the shops and what you got. Think I might have to make a stop in Oslo when I go on winter holiday next year 😅
Love to see your shoping! If you stay in Poland and have some time, I highly recommend a small trip to Wrocław city where you can find the best yarn shop in Poland (Między drutami)
Thank you Amy, I live in Norwy close to Oslo. But I did not know about Grntopia. So I will for sure go there next week. But I will be careful, to much yarn in my stash and to little knitting time. Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks for your detailed description of all the hoops you have to jump through for reclaiming the VAT. It's a pity that it's not standardized from country to country, but then, Norway isn't part of the E.U.
as someone who lives in oslo it was fun to see some local yarn shops I go to frequently ✨✨I've been to glasmagasinet a bunch of times but never knew they had yarn there
I don’t know if you’ve knitted with the Tinde yarn yet (one of my favorite kind of yarns) but it will get this fuzzy halo effect when you work with it. Especially after blocking. Sometimes it can almost look like it was held with mohair. It is so so warm, so recomend knitting a hat or something like that with it.
Omg. I'm new in knitting and I will definitely visit this yarn store in Oslo haha. Norwegian merino wool yarn are really good! My favourite is Sandnes Garn.
Hey! There is an online store in France that sells Peer Gynt for 4,44€ a skein, it’s called Laine et Tricot. I don’t know where you’re located in Europe but she ships pretty much everywhere if I’m not mistaken!
This took me back to when I used to live in Oslo! Garntopia is the best place to go, but as I lived on the opposite side of town it would take me 40 minutes to get there so I would only go if I was already in the centrum and couldn’t find what I wanted there. The yarn store I visited the most was Tjorvern Garn as it is located right next to Majorstuen metro station, so it was more often on my route and they offer student discount! It’s not as big as Garntopia, but I think they have a decent selection. I never really went to Sømsenteret for yarn, but they were my go to place for buttons and ribbons etc.!
Hi!!! There's a nice event "Woolfashion" in Warsaw next weekend, exactly on 21st Oct. Maybe you can go there to see polish yarns and knitting vloging stars, I know EVERYBODY will be there! If you need some more details, let me know 🙂 And maybe you may go to Wroclaw, in "Miedzy Drutami" yarn shop you can even touch (or buy 😋) the most expencive Vicuna yarn in the world 🎉
Grunerløkka is actually much closer to city center than Helsfyr; 3 stops with a streetcar ( trikk in Norwegian). 2 metro stops from the Mall with Strikkedilla, at Majorstuen almost ON the stop itself, you’ll find the yarn store Tjorven!
What a nice weekend trip! I once was there for work, too, but had zero time to look for yarn stores. :( I'm currently test knitting for Pickles, which I didn't know before, so fun to hear about them. 😊

That pink Knitting for Olive just made your face come alive! I’m looking forward to seeing it in a garment!
this was so much fun to watch and brought back memories of my trip to Oslo a few years ago. Oslo is truly a knitting Mecca! I bought a ridiculous amount of yarn while I was there and made a lot of very nice garments. Thanks for posting! 🤗
How fun to spot knit sweaters in the wild! I loved watching this and now will have to add Oslo to my bucket list.
Thanks for taking us along with you - this was so much fun to watch. I'm sure you were so excited spotting the garments in the wild. Great yarn choices.

I love seeing yarn shopping, the array of colours and textures just never get old for me. Thanks for taking us with you!
You are going to LOVE working with the KFO Merino. I love the way it feels knitting and it's next to skin soft. Love it.
Thank you so much for documenting your trips, I was so happy to see you had posted another video!
Thanks for sharing your trip. Beautiful yarns and some great prices too. 🧶
Yay, super educational and fun, as always. Thank you for taking us along, Amy! ✨ 🧶

Great video, I really enjoyed hearing about your experience yarn shopping & exploring Oslo, thank you ❤
What a fun video from my hometown! 🤩 I can confirm that you hit the best stores on your trip. Fru Kvist is my favourite of them all!
Thank you for all your suggestions and the coverage of the shops, as well as explaining the VAT process. I will be in Oslo in Sept and look forward to some yarn shopping!
I love Strikkedilla and Pickles! I've bought yarn from both of those and the people who work there are so helpful and kind.
Perfect timing! I’m off to Oslo at the end of November so this will come in handy
Very interesting! Please, if you can share, how are yarn shops and knitting culture in Poland?
Knitting community is quite large, and larger every week! ❤ unfortunately we have just few stationary yarn shops, but online shops are stocked really well with high quality yarn!
@@gosiamaski , and how about locally produced yarn?
So fun to watch. I am German, living in Oslo and are frequently in Berlin so it’s so cool to see your take on “my” yarn stores!
This was so fun to watch! Thanks for sharing.

Awesome! Love seeing all the wonderful yarn! Like candy in a candy store. 😅 I’m knitting with some Selbu yarn. Absolutely love it!
What a great weekend!!!

The mauve colour looks great on you! 😊
Yes, definitely do more pinks. You would look stunning in pink
Thanks so much for sharing. Loved watching it and I will be coming back to this video when I plan a trip to Norway - hopefully soon. :)
Love Tinde! The wool is form another breed of sheep. Pelsull(peltwool) has a bit more of a glow than normal wool.
Hillesvåg also have Sølje, Varde and Blåne 😊
You managed to do a lot! I live in Oslo, so it was fun seeing where you went. 🙌
I'm heading to Oslo next year (fingers crossed!) and this was super helpful in helping me plan my trip. I probably won't be able to go to as many shops since I'll be with my family and kiddo, but this helped me narrow down my list. Many thanks for all your details and insights.
I love the Tinde! I made an April cardigan by Petite Knit with it, and love the result!! Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you. You have me looking at flights from Scotland to Oslo. 😀😀 very inspiring.
So impressed with the way you pronouns the scandinavian words ☺️🙌 And great video about the shops and what you got. Think I might have to make a stop in Oslo when I go on winter holiday next year 😅
Fun episode! Thanks for the info about VAT refunds.
Love to see your shoping!

It's wonderful to travel with you. Thanks for the tips 🧶
Thank you for sharing your yarn shopping; it will guide my visit of Oslo, in January!

I live in Oslo, cool to se "my town". And yes, Rauma yarn is a Norwegian yarn, the other one I 'm not sure.

10:04 omg, last March I went to Oslo and visited same yarn stores and ATE AT SALMON. 😂 I could not believe it when I heard that?!

I was sad I couldn't make it to Tjorvern Garn, maybe if there's a next time I'll visit!
The muted pink really looks good on you

Pickles Grünerløkka is a 15 minute walk from the central station, so you can definitely get there by walking or taking the tram from the city centre.
Lovely vlog! Thank you!
I really enjoyed this! Thank you so much!
I also got Peer Gynt in Cacao Nibs to make an Eva Cardigan! Hopefully we'll be matching soon! :)
Ah that would be so fun!!

Thank you! A great video!
As an American living in Europe, I am so curious about how you manage to travel so much! would love to know how you plan
Thank you so much, this is super helpful!
You seem to go by plane everywhere, don't miss out on travelling by train in Europe, you get to see so much more on the way :)
Inge from Knitting traditions here on UA-cam uses a lot of Hillesvag yarn.
Hi Amy! Do you remember which store was the store you had to mail back the custom form?
Hi! Garntopia :)
I need to go to Oslo now!
Very interesting!
SO COOL
❤❤❤
What a nice weekend trip! I once was there for work, too, but had zero time to look for yarn stores. :( I'm currently test knitting for Pickles, which I didn't know before, so fun to hear about them. 😊
When you buy a sweaters quantity; what is that? 1000 meters?
For me it's about 1000-1200 meters!
❤🌈
