Barbed wire? Shooting stars? What is a good name for this pattern ?
Shooting stars certainly is the more "artful" term, but I do feel like barbed wire is more accurate
Connor MacLeod's Katana from the first Highlander movie and as usual your video was awesome
Shooting stars definitely is more elegant, but first impression-wise, barbed wire wins.
I think shooting stars works better as the official name, with barbed wire as the nickname.
Starburst? Twinkle?
Pointy Knobs
Glad to see the channel back in its proper state.
Yup, i was sad to see it got hacked.
uff even the comments are gone... harsh.
@@iamhatefield that's weird. When I made this comment all of the comments from before the hack were still showing up for me.
Glad you guys got the channel fixed!
I came here to see if you guys got control of your channel again and I am relieved
Where did Ilya go?
Welcome back guys. Glad that got turned around quick.
that Zach laugh never ever ever gets old...Where's Illya? did i miss something?
He has talked about learning from a Japanese smith on a few occasions. If he has gone to Japan I hope he gets to skip the cutting charcoal and making meals start of apprenticeships.
Lo mismo pregunto. Que fue de ilya hace. Meses. Que no se sabe nada
I miss Illya, need him back.
Congrats on getting your stuff back
Looks like you guys got hacked by crypto bros for a minute. Glad to see YT is putting things back to normal.
Can't wait to see the knife etched and finished, it'll look so cool!
I actually forgot to show more of the bar to show the pattern off. I will be sure to show more in the next part!
As many other people have said; it's good to see you got the channel back this quickly. I just wish someone would torch those crypto-scamming bastards that keeps snagging channels left right and center. This isn't the first time I've seen it happen.
nice to see the channel back!
yay you got it back!
Oh yeah, that shooting star/barbed wire pattern looks so good. Can't wait to see it as a bowie knife(which is what I think he's making, judging from the overall profile and ricasso).
I think I am going for a bowie type thing but with a more aggressive feel.
Protip from Lancaster armouries
Don't use a belt for scale, it's a waste of the belt, instead, use a felt or fabric wheel coated in abrasive compound, it'll take the scale off just as fast but not waste any belts.
Nah. We have unlimited belts :)
@@ThatWorks if you're happy to expend them then it's no worries!
@@sarchlalaith8836 I use old crappy ones for descaling anyway
No Chris no Ilya in the shop?
Ilya is doing his own project/ filming
You can hear Chris in the background the whole video :) Chris relaunched his own channel so he has been uploading his weekly videos. Mt Phillip metalworks is his channel.
Ilya ?

This is shaping up real nice, can't wait to see the finished knife.
Hey - I'm getting back to it too! I didn't even see that this was uploaded last-month, let alone that it was a continuation from an earlier project. That metal looks gorgeous!
WOOO its back baby!
YOUR BACK!
Good to see this back to normal. Guessing you guys opened some email/link that stole the session token. It's how they can bypass 2fa, nevermind normal login credentials. As (in)convenient as it is, I make it a point to manually logout of important accounts. Also use a separate account to conduct whatever business you need to. If there's one bad thing that google emphasizes is the "convenience" of having 1 account that controls everything from cloud storage to youtube videos to email. If you're extra paranoid (and I don't blame you after now) is to have a separate computer for business email. That way even if you have a virus that just hides out in the computer, token stealing, it can only steal the one account on that computer.
Где Илья?
Nicely done
I'm loving this, I'm so glad you went back to this material. I also really enjoy these nice and quiet, slowed down videos with you just taking your time on a beautiful piece like this. I can't wait to see the final product! Do you have any ideas on what you'll be doing for the handle at all yet? Or will you be keeping that fairly simple and straightforward, letting the blade itself really take the glory?
I'm leaning towards the original knife design that Tanner did. Yea I just need to get back into making more content so I am challenging myself to every Thursday and Saturday.
@@ThatWorks any way to give long-time fans a channel update? Maybe via a community post? I can't be the only long-term OG man at arms fan who watched this channel get created who's fondly and respectfully wondering what the new format is, Illya? etc
@@fettmaneiii4439 ilya is in the process of moving. Other than that we are making more content. More variety. More builds. More everything.
One day ill get your amazing work for myself one day THIS WAS SO COOL AND THAT LAUGH 😂
Never gets old does it?!
@@ThatWorks indeed never gets old XD
Awesome vid Matthew, that little hardy hole anvil os a great idea for edge overhang area
That was ilyas idea. That's really all you need!
Thank you for the video ⚔️ keep up the great work try and stay cool as much as you can.
No staying cool on that shop this time of year. Best we can do is stay hydrated
@@ThatWorks true & even if you use industrial fans it's just blowing hot air.
Yea. Better off getting used to heat and drink up
@@ThatWorks keep up the great work 👍🏻
Can you guys do a livestream or longplay video so we can see how long the process really takes?
Whoa whoa whoa. Part 3 within a few days instead of a few years? Golden joke opportunity missed!
Trueeee! :)
Old projects are just new projects, after you remember them. 😂
True!!!! I love finishing old stuff. Feels good!
I'm interested to see the finished pattern.
Sword of Aeons: Fable the Lost Chapters
:) you need to send the fable fans over here to talk me into it.
One day i have to buy a knife from you guys. You'll be that extra special first and probably only custom.
What a masterpiece you've created here 👏👏
Question if i was to get some old barbed wire heat it up and smash it together would that be wrought iorn? Im a younfella from a rural town in 🇨🇦 and got into working wrought iorn into knives and whatnot but have a hard time to source it but i do have some real old barbed wire
Simply stunning pattern, keep them vids up 👍
Thanks, will do!
I wish I could afford a blade from these guys
why cant you? There is one up there for super cheap!
@@ThatWorks because I'm poor lol
Any idea about part 4?
Hey Matt, Rick Hall here just thought I’d offer a suggestion make your last tile out of 1080 and make that your Tang end that way you’re not wasting any of that valuable material
Truth!!
That would require planning
Hahaha true
Always a good day when you upload
trying my best to give you two of those days a week!
Please make Dyrnwyn from the Disney version of The Black Cauldron and make it out of damascus steel and make the scabbard to go with it along with the Black Cauldron itself.
I keep forgetting about this one
Sorry guys, no Ilya, no show.
Where is part 1 and 2???
Linked in the discription. Also part of this playlist
Привет Илья Мэтт.. Как насчет сделать дамаск под меч Гоуцзяня или вообще сам меч..
👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛
Tyty
Matt great work sir cant wait to see the finished product, i hope everything is ok at the shop you keep talkin in the single person. Dont put too much on yourself alone editing can be miserable.
I mean it's pretty much all been on me for three years now bud.
@@ThatWorks Just be careful not to burn yourself out my dude
with inflation and high cost of living im gonna save up for the meteorite witcher sword hold it for like 65-75yrs please.😁😆😆 jkjk
The old life time lay away plan
ok
Alright
YOUR CHANNEL WAS HACKED. YOUR ARE OK?
Rengoku katana from demon slayer please
Umm... It's pattern welded piece, not a Damascus..
Its neither using wootz steel nor made using damascus procedure.
There are Damascus metals available made out of wootz.
You are actually very wrong. Damascus was never a location when talking about steel it was a descriptive word. Damas is the root word that means a rippled water like pattern. That is only made from layered steel not crucible steel. Meaning, pattern welding is more close to the ancient description of damascus then wootz is. Do your own research!
@@ThatWorks dama in which language.???
Wootz steel from Kerala of India was taken to Damascus and used for making sword there.
Tibetans uses pattern welding technique to make their rainbow sword which our tribe uses, and it is completely different metallurgy than the Damascus sword used by the rajputs and mughals-turks.
pattern FORGE welded is modern Damascus
Как я понял Ильюха свалил от мэта,а мэт свалил от брата и теперь в жопе
