Your attention to detail of Cat's fashion is astounding, well done, I didn't realise how many outfits they recycled no doubt to save on budget by just mixing them in new combos and Cat most definitely does change as a character he gradually becomes less cat and more human like so a progression of sorts is there it's more about the fact no episodes feature him while all 3 other characters have had episodes focused on them.
I'm glad you're doing more Cat videos after the rest of the series, especially as Series 11 gave us arguably the only Cat-centered episode (I always think of Waiting For God as more about Lister than Cat), so I'm looking forward to your thoughts on that one.
5:09 If Lister was more motivated to do well for himself, there is still a chance he ended up on Red Dwarf simply due to a lack of opportunities to go elsewhere. He may have even ranked higher than Third Technician in that alternate timeline, having an attitude more like Rimmer in terms of ambition. Also, that fictional series Robbie Rocket-pants needs to be a thing, that sounds amazing.
That's what I've always thought about what you mention at 5:04, the Inquisitor has seemingly failed from the start with Lister & Kryten, he erased the original versions and created replacements who appear to be the exact same.
I found it interesting when you said the Cat isn't as well liked as the rest of the cast. Every person I know who is a fan of the show (myself included) has rather enthusiastically stated that Cat is their favourite character.

I like the Terry Farrell Cat, it makes me want to see where they would have taken the character. I would like to think they would have used her different take on the character type in a way that mirrors but contrasts with Our Cat's.
I know! She's so wonderfully GLEEFUL about ripping throats out and making intestine balloon animals. It's like the playful-but-ferocious ways your housecat will RIP THE SHREDS out of whatever they feel like playing with. Also I like how "Farrell-Cat" sounds like "_Feral_ Cat". (Unless you pronounce it as "feeral".) It...works. :P Also also, I once played a catperson character (a cheetah, specifically) with wild teased-out hair to resemble a mane...and out my outfit? Was a STAR TREK uniform. Dead. Serious. XD I wish I could say it was a DS9 uniform as that would be perfect on a STICK, but no, it was an original one (in red). So I can't really say anything here. Like I said in the American remake review, Terry Farrel as the Cat is just about the only thing I'm sorry we didn't get to see more of from that. She reminds me a lot of the characters from, well, the musical "Cats" - all soft and silky, but with the constant hint of *claws.* :D You're right, though, the British Cat is a more unique and interesting character.

I kinda assumed with the original Cat talking about having 7-8 partners as his way of showing off he can handle 7-8 women at a time/that he's a player regardless, didn't take into consideration cat mating rituals. Now you mention this though I do remember they got it backwards.
To cross this over in to MLP a little, what you said about Cat at the end how he has grown in his own unique way and the little comparisons of his Season 1 self compared to his Season 3 self (Which I completely agree with), is something you could say about Fluttershy who many say only started becoming more assertive in the later Seasons, you could do that exact comparison how in the first Season she's barely able to talk to the other characters, to the first half of Season 2 where she can interact with the others a lot better but is still very timid, to the second half of Season 2 after Putting your hoof down and onwards where she slowly starts to say no and refuse to do stuff for the others when she really doesn't want to. I think it might be an interesting supplement video to your vlogs in the future. Although when it comes to defending any of the characters from that show from fandom criticism basically all of them deserve a video like that in some form or another so maybe that's a rabbit hole not worth venturing in to. But back to the Cat, as someone who grew up watching Red Dwarf, when I was a lot younger, Cat was always my favourite character, he was different, he was a snarky, vain fun-loving asshole and he had me laughing a lot, as I got older I started to appreciate Rimmer more and more, his sad life, his hatred of himself and longing to be a better person all held back by his core disgusting personality - All masterfully brought together by Chris Barrie's performance - Lister has a great character as well as the ultimate slacker with a heart of gold but Rimmer I find ultimately more funny because he manages to be both sympathetic and a complete lost cause at the same time, I mean before Season 7 but that's another story. Cat may not be my favourite anymore but the series you've done on him defiantly reminds me why I still love the character.

Well, I haven't covered "Can't Smeg Won't Smeg" yet, since it came out around Season 7, so I haven't had a chance to add the skill. Inquisitor is one of the best episodes, it's so deep and philosophical. Interesting that Rimmer's uniform no longer has his name on it by season 5 but Cat still mentioned it, I wonder if maybe they wrote that episode earlier on but didn't make it because of budget or something. Here's a question for you, are you familiar with the 12 character archetypes? I'm trying to figure out which one I would assign to each Red Dwarf character. I think maybe sometimes they fluctuate depending on the story. Kryten is definitely The Warrior (but I think a better word would be 'serviceman' because he follows orders even if he disagrees with them and he always looks out for his squad). But Cat and the others are quite hard to place. Maybe Cat would be The Jester since he just wants to have fun all the time.

Like I remember you saying in one episode, Cat can be very serious when the situation calls for it which is what makes him more than just a comedy relief character.

Favourite example: When we got Uhuru (big, fluffy, gorgeous black cat) declawed, my mom asked the vet to leave his hind claws in. A few hours later, the vet walked into the room with blood absolutely DRIPPING down his arms. "Don't worry. He's still got the hind claws." XD

USA Version Cat and Holly are only two characters in the USA pilot that I like and that they have a chance to shine. USA Lister and Kryten are ok, no changes, but I do like Kryten's less bulky appearance. USA Rimmer is the only one I don't like; not enough zing/"rimmery".

I'm not a huge anime fan myself(moderate would be accurate), but it's interesting to see this one in the comments as I found a series of comic dubs of this manga done by Phantom Savage who's videos I peruse, and they are fun dubs to listen to as well!
When she mentions Cat being told of Frankenstein ( the creator and his monster) and he does not say wait Frankenstein the holy mother / virgin birth? And she says she grew up knowing who Jesus was purported to be tho not overly religious and how to react to others with different dogma / holy icons. Here is a hypothetical: If Vikings had conquered all the lands they explored or raided establishing them under their religion as Christianity did Thor would be the savior and Jesus one of the Avengers LOL
You know, I don't think it's all that stupid for cat to confuse Star Trek with the 'reality' of Red Dwarf. I mean, in our world it might seem stupid, because we don't even have space travel to the same extend they do. But Cat lives in a world were massive space ships are common place and technology is on a similar level as Star Trek, so watching a TV show that is similar to the world he lives in, and thinking it's rules are reflective of real live makes some degree of sense in my opinion.

I think you can compare Dwayne Dibley with Derpy Hooves, the character that brings a chuckle for their unfortunate hand they were dealt in life.

You know, I don't think it's all that stupid for cat to confuse Star Trek with the 'reality' of Red Dwarf. I mean, in our world it might seem stupid, because we don't even have space travel to the same extend they do. But Cat lives in a world were massive space ships are common place and technology is on a similar level as Star Trek, so watching a TV show that is similar to the world he lives in, and thinking it's rules are reflective of real live makes some degree of sense in my opinion.
