That purple suit is pure love, I have NO idea how you don;t adore it. We both agree on zebra print being best, though.
Theoretically the return of Dwayne Dibley in S8 kinda works, insomuch as the rule of 3, and this time he finally has to choose to pretend to be him. Just doesn’t land for the reasons you said.
I think it would have worked if Cat was alone and this legitimately seemed like the only way out. A (semi-serious) big moment of growth where he willingly swallowed his pride to save his own life (and maybe the others too).
I know this series is focused solely on The Cat, but the thing that bugged me most about Series 8 was the fact that Holly was basically non-existent despite the fact that there was now two of him, one in Lister's watch & the non-senile one on the Dwarf itself. You'd think they'd play some important role in the plot, but nope. Not to mention the fact that there should have been 2 Kochanski's, the one from the alternate universe & one resurrected with the rest of the crew.
Yeah, Holly was pretty wasted as well.
@@ChristieBrewster well lister left the red dwarf before nanobots broke it down and rebuilt it, so when the nanobots used the crews remains DNA to bring them back there wont be a lister to rebuild. But there should be two kachanski's
@@more-reasons6655 Given how long the crew had been dead, there shouldn't be anyone to rebuild, except via the ship's blueprints on staff psyche (that presumably make up the content of every holodisc).
@@ChristieBrewster according to season 4 Rimmer finds some dandruff that turns out to be his so I'd assume the nanobots built all the people from their DNA

ahhhh! The dreaded prison jumpsuit! On a side note his primary outfit in BTE is one of my all time favourites, it's mainly the coat that does it for me. Unpopularish opinion but series 10, 11 and 12 have great outfits as well. Can't say the wigs are always of good quality though.
Yeah, I HATED Cat's hair in Season 10. I liked most of his outfits, tho.

Seeing him in flashy pregnant clothes was funny though plus in season 11 we finally see his room

This show started 30 years ago. I wonder if they ever comment on the fact Rimmer and Kryten have aged despite being a hologram (except for season 8) and a robot.
Kryten has a mid-life crisis in the XI episode.... Krysis
I've heard person justify it as another way to keep Lister sane. If Rimmer stayed young it would just make him depressed about being old.
During the time drive finale, Rimmer says "I can't have changed that much, I'm a hologram" and Lister replies "you're about two meals away from being a sumo wrestler" but that certainly wasn't the case with Rimmerworld, where he survived some centuries without aging. If I had to guess, JMC regulations regard holographic survival as a luxury. This point was stressed by Queeg. When Red Dwarf was rebuilt, it was built to the original schematics. It's possible the newly rebuilt hologram deck, while being fully equipped with crew discs, underwent changes which expedite the revoking of that luxury. A hologram certainly has the option to change their appearance, like a beehive haircut, an arm or a breast. But perhaps in expiring expired crew members gradually, they spare the company the expense while being compassionate to the person. The novels have expressed how the company acknowledges the emotional needs of holograms, since there's a counselor session they go through. In the first episode, Holister is clearly giving a brief company sensitivity policy reminder. And Rimmer expresses an established social bias when he states "you livies hate us deadies." So in essence, the new and improved Red Dwarf (that did not undergo eons of decay, exacerbated by company cutbacks) may be killing the new Rimmer hologram (which is a hologram of his dead bunk mate, not a hologram of the person he traveled deep space with).
Kryten getting older has already been explained. It's company intended planned obsolescence. Otherwise "how would they sell the new model" like Hudson? His performance is supposed to become more poor along with his appearance. Clearly, Dave doesn't care about voiding the warranty and has been patching Krten up and modifying him over the years, but all the parts are getting older too. Their scarcity made all the more dire due to Dr. Mammot's cruel joke of a flaw which self destructs a Kryten head.
4:45 - If they don't get Danny to redo this or Tongue Tied when he's on Strictly Come Dancing, I'll be very surprised.
If I had to choose my top three favorite outfits from Cat in these newer three series, it'd go:
1. Officer Rimmer
2. Samsara
3. Timewave
I have a theory on how he got the first Beyond a Joke outfit back. The time wand put Cat and Kochanski back in outfits from a previous point in their lives when they first found it so maybe Kryten used that on both of them after freezing everyone on the ship. It explains why Kochanski's outfit in those scenes is similar to the one Lister gifted her in Duct Soup when that would've been destroyed on Starbug too.
That's a really good point and it's funny that I didn't even think about Kochanski's outfit--I recognized it from Season 7 but I didn't make the connection that it would have been lost--shows what a one-track mind I have when it comes to Cat XD

Thank you Dena, this series of Vlogs brought back a lot of great RD memories. In fact, I did something I've wanted to do for a long time: I broke down and bought the whole series off amazon!
I headcanon that Cat was being subconsciously manipulated by the simulation and that's why he was able to come up with the Dibbly family disguise idea without suffering from a terrible fashion sense-induced aneurysm. It also explains why despite Cat being dumb, manages to figure out that E11T means EXIT.
I kinda wish series 8 just stuck with the premise of the characters having to integrate back into the Red Dwarf crew. They could’ve mined a whole episode out of Cat just doing his own thing in the ship and being a disruptive presence for everyone onboard. I mean, a humanoid cat coming and going as he pleases throughout a densely populated ship just sounds ripe for comedy hijinks.
Yeah, Cat was totally under-utilized in Season 8.

Not sure. Some of the pics of Cat's clothes I've seen look like they might be from someone selling them, but I never paid much attention since I wouldn't be able to afford them, and I dunno what I'd do with them if I could =P

Hey Cat, have you ever heard of a Children’s British show called Maid Marian and her Merry Men? It starred Danny Jon-Jules and was a hit on BBC.
I've been told about it and seen a clip. That's about it, tho.
I never noticed before how Matt Smith's Doctor's costume is a fair bit like the alternate Cat's suit. I intensely dislike Series 8, I could appreciate it as a dumb version of Red Dwarf but I avoid it entirely now because of how many times the Cat (and also Rimmer) get beat up. There are episodes in the latest series that seem just as dumb to me but I can watch them because they're not sadistic. I did enjoy this video, though, thanks!

It’s weird because we don’t have Geikko over here he’s more well known over here for playing Max in the soap opera Eastenders
I think for me too much of the Dwayne Dibley character becomes an inherent part of Cat in the later seasons which is why I prefer him from his earlier incarnations, he is obviously spose to be dumb to a certain extent but he's spose to be cool as well and they lose a lot of that in series 7 and 8 where those canines almost seem to be making him talk like Dwayne with the speech impediment, something that doesn't seem as pronounced in the earlier series. They also make no mention of exactly who he gets lumped in with when in jail.
All the stuff that the prisoners have to do would definitely be 'Cat hell'...

That would have been great, with how you can find your cat in the oddest of places. Him just showing up in Lister and Rimmer's cell somehow, whenever he wanted, would have been hilarious and appropriate.
As an aside, it’s nice to see somebody else likes the blue midget dance because I’ve been on a lot of other red dwarf forums and overwhelmingly people hate it, like they’ll pick it out as one of the worst things in back to the red. Yeah apparently a cool dance with the cat is worse than prison rape.

It's a pattern on some fabric--it didn't come from an actual animal. It's whichever you want to call it.
@@Cyborcat No, you're right, it's zebra. You can tell by the look of the stripes. If you look up white tigers and zebras, you'll be able to see the distinction.
