Is no one else surprisingly delighted at how amazing Chris Barrie is at doing those voices? I actually didn't even realize he was doing Kryten at first. And there were more than a few points where his Lister and Cat were dead on, too. I mean, it lacked the nuance of the actors' performances that they would add, but it often sounded like their voices.
Yeah, I guess I should have given him more credit for that. I'm just so used to hearing him do the voices so well, I just didn't even think to talk about what a good job he did =P
If Big Finish ever gets the rights to Red Dwarf, I would love for them to adapt the lost Stories. The actress who was intended to play the Female cat already works for them, plus Hattie Hayridge appeared in a Doctor Who story.
The actress they had in mind for Aura is called Yasmin Bannerman. She's done a minor character work in UK shows like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Life On Mars...oh (and this won't mean much to you Dena) and she was part of the original cast of Hollyoaks. She doesn't seem to do much TV/film work these days and is most recently known for being characters in Doctor Who audiodramas. And a google image search confirms that...ahem...she definately would've been suitable for playing Aura. Yes indeedy :P
Just popping up with another comment to mention that in the last hour or so Danny John-Jules has been announced as a competitor on "Strictly Come Dancing" which is what we call "Dancing With the Stars" here in the UK. Just give him the trophy now and be done with it :D
There was a version of the script that involved Dwayne Dibley. In a lucid state Cat sees him. They exchange words and Cat finally understands their main difference. Dwayne may not be cool, but he did at least make peace with his lack of coolness.
This one still has got to be made no matter the format... And thanks Chris Barre that was a beautiful performance I can still hear why he was part of Spitting Image...
This would have been such a classic. I would have loved that actress as Aura. I wish it were made. I think that it would be fun if it were adapted in a fully animated episode.
Other cats being militaristic badasses is one of those weird things that are actually true.Domestic cats are amongst the most successful predators in the world, with kill rate of over 30%(compared to the tigers 10%),and hunting instincts that dont go off even when they are fully sated.Though this is mostly true for unpampered domestic cats, even the spoiled ones that have never hunted in their life can suddenly become vicious,as I found out once when a poor bat got into my house. That little guy stood no chance.
I wouldn't hold out hope for that--they wouldn't have released it in this state if they ever planned on making it into a real episode. Not to mention that a lot of the stuff that happens in it (Lister losing Starbug in a bet, a female "cat" being found in a cage, etc) has been used in later episodes, so a lot of it would be redundant now.
That could be a way they could end Red Dwarf for good you know? They don't find Humanity, but the Cat people, and Lister ends up being God to them. It fulfills a lot of ideas that have been tossed around the whole run of the series. Then again, maybe the moment's passed.
My idea for how to end Red Dwarf is they find earth but crash Red Dwarf and find out that the cats have taken it over, Lister goes to live in Fiji to open up his food stand, Cat lives in the ruins of Red Dwarf and turns it into a big fancy mansion where women frequently come to meet him, Rimmer takes over the cats military rising to the ranks quickly through lying about his battle prowess and Kryten...I have no idea
You hit the nail on the head there I think. Then again, I thought the crew having a conversation about the meaning of life with the UNIVERSE would have been a fine place to end it. But they kept going. And going. And I think Doug Naylor says he doesn't want to give it a definitive ending. But Fiji run by Cat people is the best choice
The betting Starbug thing got used in Entangled and the plot of Cat meeting a mate was used in Can Of Works although that was a secret third Polymorph episode heck Can Of Worms could be a retry at the cancelled Dad episode with Lister
Chris Barrie did a good job with the impressions, in fact did you know that Chris Barrie was an impressionist and a voice actor on Spitting Image before he was cast in the role of Second-Class Technician Arnold Judas Rimmer, Bronze Swimming Certificate, Silver Swimming Certificate ?
So this means that the female cat in Red Dwarf USA is kinda cannon? As that form of cat was more instinctual and feral, which would be useful for a warlike species.
Seeing as Red Dwarf XIII has been pretty much confirmed...(robert lleywlyn and danny confirmed it) I dont see why this episode cant be done for 1 of those episodes.
They would not have released the episode as an animatic if they ever planned to make it for real. Plus a lot of ideas from it have already been used. It'd just be a pointless waste of money and effort to make it now. Not to mention that the show probably still doesn't have a high enough budget to pull it off.
you tubes messed up again the comments say six days ago but apparently it was only uploaded yesterday. plus next season 7. that was ages ago . when did you actuly do this cause i can't tell
I upload videos a week early for patrons, that's why some comments are from 6 days ago. Also, Season 7 is going to be the subject of the next Cat video.
Interesting that Kryten didn’t think of the neutering option to save his life. No chance in hell Cat would’ve let that happen, though. Another missed cheap gag...
Cyborcat Not necessarily. Could be the source of the toxins are from his unaltered state. Stop the toxins from producing, then treat the damage. There’s products that absorb phosphorus to aid with kidney disease. Unless it was cancer. Cat’s probably too old anyway and there’s some serious ethical questions around attempting to neuter a Felis Sapien, but damn it, I want my cheap neuter joke!
Wish they'd made this episode rather than Duct Soup or Ouroboros, which are both truly awful S7 episodes (though I understand the need for the plot progression they provide. But when did Red Dwarf care about continuity or narrative arc?). I've been waiting decades for an episode where Cat gets laid!
Not necessarily. They've only ever mentioned cats having six nipples, nothing about breasts, so the top two could be human-looking breasts with the other 4 being just nipples like on a cat.

Which episode?
@@MatthewsStopMotionsI believe it was Bernice Summerfield Volume 04: Ruler of the Universe

Ooh. I'm not normally into those shows, but I'd watch that ^.^
A contestant? I thought professional dancers weren't allowed as contestants.
Is it possible he's actually gonna be once of the dance trainers instead?
His foxtrot to Top Cat is very fun.
There was a version of the script that involved Dwayne Dibley. In a lucid state Cat sees him. They exchange words and Cat finally understands their main difference. Dwayne may not be cool, but he did at least make peace with his lack of coolness.

I really would love them to revisit this episode and film it.
My parents introduced me to Red Dwarf a few weeks ago and I love it.
Boy, I understand why they didn't do this one, but... man, what a shame!
Great video, thanks Dena
Right?
And thanks ^.^
Budget issues unfortunately

Man, I hope they make this into an episode in a later season.
I wouldn't hold out hope for that--they wouldn't have released it in this state if they ever planned on making it into a real episode. I've always been bitter over this episode's rejection I'd much rather this than beyond a joke tbh

Y'know, I should have mentioned in this video that Lister being god of the Cat people never comes up, and that's kind of odd. Oh well.
That's actually a pretty good ending for the series.

This is absolutely hilarious after seeing The Promised Land.
Would be nice for them to find a way to bring this story back one day. Sounds like it would have easily been the best episode of series 7.
The betting Starbug thing got used in Entangled and the plot of Cat meeting a mate was used in Can Of Works although that was a secret third Polymorph episode heck Can Of Worms could be a retry at the cancelled Dad episode with Lister
Yep.
Yep, he was also Ronald Reagan in the video for Land of Confusion.
@@Cyborcat Didn't know that, but makes sense, because the crew from Spitting Image worked on both, thanks for the response and the trivia!
...so I just noticed Kryten's card cheating interface is in comic sans.
2:05 Kryten's got his priorities right.
more cat :)
Nice video. Keep up the good work
So this means that the female cat in Red Dwarf USA is kinda cannon? As that form of cat was more instinctual and feral, which would be useful for a warlike species.
This got scrapped but Pete and Krytie TV got the okay...

love this

right with you. that makes sense. thank you
Interesting that Kryten didn’t think of the neutering option to save his life. No chance in hell Cat would’ve let that happen, though. Another missed cheap gag...
There was a sack of poison inside of him--neutering would have only made it impossible for him to get cured.

I wonder if they couldn't dust off this old story for a future series?
They've already used most of the ideas in other episodes, so it'd be too repetitive.
@@Cyborcat Hasn’t stopped them from retreading older episodes with prettier visuals.
I know what your getting for Christmas 4:33

They could have scrapped those two and make this one a two-parter.
I can see why they never made this into an episode. It’s just... not funny...
I mean fair enough
Hang on - shouldn't the female cat have 6 breasts?
Not necessarily. They've only ever mentioned cats having six nipples, nothing about breasts, so the top two could be human-looking breasts with the other 4 being just nipples like on a cat.
