ABOUT THIS VIDEO: I've been asked a few times about how I color my gemstones in various books. There are MANY ways to color gemstones with colored pencil, and there's no right or wrong. In this video, I show you how I do it with Pablo colored pencils in Ivy & the Inky Butterfly by Johanna Basford.
Thanks so much for watching! Much love to you all.

I'm aware the audio in this video is TERRIBLE. I'm working on it, and I promise it'll be better soon.

Pablos work well with just about any other pencil because they're such a beautiful blend, so I'm sure you'll find a pink. Can't wait to see it finished!

So much for enjoying your afternoon...then to read such a comment....you don’t have to explain or apologize for how you hold your pencil! That comment probably came from someone that colors outside the lines LM FAO! Keep up the good work Erin!

Thank you for this video! I just started coloring in this book and all the gems were kind of intimidating! You make is seem easy. I only have Prismacolors so I was curious what the comparable colors would be in my set? I am not familiar with the purply one.

From light to dark, the closest colors would be Hot Pink, Mulberry, and Black Cherry. Hope this helps!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, they were intimidating to me, too, but one day I just dove in and this is what I got! 💜

I want to know how this person know how cavemen hold pencils..😳 Lol! Great tutorial though, I always thought gemstones were so complicated but you made it easy to do!

I didn't know cavemen even had pencils. 🤷‍♀️ Learn something new every day. 🤣

How do you decide on your color schemes? I can get myself stuck on that like you wouldn't believe 🤦‍♀️lol

I browse Pinterest until something sticks out. 🤣 Yeah it's tough to decide on something sometimes, and half the time I don't even stick to it when I do.

@@SimpleArtforAdults Maybe you could collab with someone who draws coloring books and make a color by number book for us? In the meantime, I'll check out pinterest! Lol

Lol...caveman huh? 🤣 BTW, Erin....just a little hint that I learned from Lori @ Color My World....she had spent years trying multiple things in order to whiten the lines so that they aren’t so.obvious, especially for those times when she is coloring things in nature, people etc because let’s face it....most things don’t really have a black outline, right?....some things worked better than other things, but she wasn’t really happy with ANY of the results until about maybe 7/8 months-a year ago? (I honestly don’t remember the exact timing of when she did the video, I’d have to go back and find it ~ update, tried but couldn’t find it, but not that surprising-she has a TON of videos), but anyway, she finally found it and shared it with us....It is the white Faber Castell Brush Pitt Pen. You can go right over the black lines, it dries quickly leaving the lines more of a lighter gray color and you can color right over it so that when your finished, your object looks more realistic. I love it!

The Uniball Signo works REALLY well for me when I remember where I put it. I'll keep my eye out for a white Pitt pen, though.

Simple Art for Adults ...Erin...I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say....you know how some of the art lines are so black or really thick? If you use the the White F.C. Pitt pen FIRST, BEFORE you even start to color, you can go right over it with your pencils, then when your finished, those lines will have more or less have disappeared. Which means that when you use the Signo pen at the very end it will look even better. The problem with using the Signo gel pen (or any gel pen actually- because I ran into the same problem) FIRST - BEFORE you even start coloring is that your pencils will scratch the ink off and you still have the black outline. Where as using the Pitt pen FIRST - BEFORE you even start to color, you can go right over the top of it without scratching it off. It lightens those lines to a gray, from the get go....so that you have a more natural looking product in the end....then, as I said before, when you go in with the Signo at the very end for the highlights, or to go back over those lines again, they look even better. Hopefully, I made myself a little more clear this time.
