This is my video game comfort food. I've watched it a million times, will likely watch a million times more. Still dreaming for The Video Game Years season 2 featuring years 1990-1999.
Now would especially be a good time to do that since the nostalgia for the 1980s has passed somewhat and 90s/2000s nostalgia has taken over, and there are a lot more gaming youtubers focused on that era than ever before
@@CaptainJZH That's because the younger GenXers are in their 40-55 year old stretch. They dominate wherever they are for now, but their plan is to walk away and watch this artifice burn down.
Hoping these re-runs do well enough that a new batch can be either Kickstarted or put on Patreon to help cover the cost for production. I know I would support it that way, what about you….????
I love this series - it was a sanctuary during a really tough time in my life when I lost a family member so not only is it nostalgic, it was cathartic. Thanks.
Nice to see full episodes instead of just parts of each year. Love watching this and curious do they have some planned for like 90s era or beginning 2000s era one somday.
That should be the next 13 episodes. That would cover everything from the war between Nintendo, Sony, and Sega, as well as the death of Sega consoles and the birth of Microsoft's XBOX and Halo. Not to mention the jump from 2D to 3D. The battle of the mascots. The video games rating system. So many important moments in gaming.
The rise of first person shooters and strategy games on pc as well as fmv games and point n click adventures by LucasArts. You had the Sim City games. Mac vs Windows.
Such a great content, funny and informative. I'm having a blast watching it again! Actually, this was how I discovered your channel back in the early days of the CUP and I've been watching you ever since. I'm not used to comment a lot, but thanks for putting this in HD and congrats for the great work! Keep it up!
so THAT's why you talk about these on the podcast!! I only ever saw trailers back then and thought that was all it was, 'cause I mean that's how youtube works, but these were full length all along, that's awesome!! also, Roo is hilarious! :DD
This is so damn nostalgic for me. I watched the original release of these probably 100+ times. Great excuse to watch them again. Also, I miss Roo #16bitGems
I had the Telstar, It was my first game system! I was born in 1977 played the shit out of that thing until I was like 3 or 4 years old when we finally got an Intellivision (yes, I'm one of those who had the Intellivision over the Atari...I am Mr. Tallarico's target market...too bad that thing is gonna be garbage lol)
It's Saturday morning, wife and daughter sleeping, can't think of a better thing to watch. I do pour a bowl of cocoa pebbles and watch Saturday morning cartoons sometime (Mone media is the best, and a solid dude), but this is also rad.
Personally for me the 70s and early 80s will be always be my favorite time for video games, it’s great to see light shed on this period of games so I really enjoyed this video, I think the one thing that I would have pointed out that wasn’t mentioned is the fact that in 1977 Atari had an arcade game called starship1 that has the first known “Easter egg” in a video game
The funny thing is that I was born in 78, and by the time i was 3-4 years old I started playing arcade games starting with Pac-Man, Space Invaders etc, and I was pretty good at Frogger by the time I was around 5. But I had never even heard of Pong, until it became a bonus secret in Mortal Kombat II.
@Pat the NES Punk I saw on the pod you mentioned that people wouldn’t be into it if you did the Video Game Years 90’s edition in the same Best Week Ever style like those old fun VH1 shows but I really think the fans of the old ones and video games in general would still love it just as much if you did the 90’s version in the same style.
Re: the RCA Studio II, I knew one person who had one, and I didn't see it again until a couple years later in a Radio Shack-like (though not Radio Shack) store. I had never seen it otherwise in any toy stores, or in any department stores.
Hey Pat, I remember when you guys did 1977 year in gaming and talked about the intellivision. A certain ceo was on that episode saying how much he love the original intellivision controller while others said how awful it was. Aww how times haven't changed.
Just binged every episode and LOVED it. THANK YOU for the hard work and love that clearly went into this. You made a new fan. (Sadly I'm poor or I'd give you monies)
I remember back in the early 80's, a lot of people had those handheld game "consoles". But to me it was a thing for "old people"... which, honestly, could have been anyone from like 18-40 since I was a little kid. Also, very popular with smokers -- I remember anyone who had a "smoking chair" would have one of those parked on the side table along with their ashtray.
Thanks for bringing these back! I have all the DVDs now! If you need help to do the 90s... I'll be happy to help financially, or with whatever the show needs!
There is a 'Free to Play Bar and Grill' about a 45 minute drive from me. When you walk in, it's like stepping back in time. All the games are from the 80s and 90s - all free - You just pay a cover charge. It's sad though that nowadays must arcades don't have much in the way of video games and focus mostly on ticket machines.
I am super jealous for all you fellow gamers born in the 80s. You all got to experience the birth of gaming. Not to mention you were old enough to enjoy the 90s. I was born in 92. So by the time I was retraining information accurately I only had 3 years left.
Thanks to everyone who showed up for the premiere. Every Monday throughout the Summer will be the premiere of the next episode!

Are we getting full versions of the 1980-1989 episodes, or will those be segmented?
This should be on Netflix! ♥️
Good to see this series back, I hope you and all who have participated in the creation this series are doing well, as well as the patrons

Retroware TV is now nostalgic like its content was, it came full circle.
Well said. 👍✨🎮
Yeah, I downloaded all these in case they ever left the Internet. They're so good! Glad to see them coming back here!!
So what was retroware?
@@JONNYSORENSEN_AU An early video game channel on UA-cam. I believe it is still on the site.
I actually bought the dvds
I love the running gag of the commentators going "Who TF has [obscure game console]?" And Pat going "OH YEAH HERE IT IS BOYS"
I watched this series so many times before Prime Video gave it the boot, and it never got old. Now I get to watch them again! :)

Best series ever! I'm watching it for the millionth time because I have anxiety but also because I love it! Thanks for making this!

Glad to see you uploading these in HD, I still have the old ones saved from way back in glorious 360p.
These look amazing. Thanks for uploading the remastered version.
Cool. I need a rerun of this 👍 was such a good series ❤️
This is how I discovered your channel a few years back. Fun!
I didn't know this series even existed. I'm a huge fan of the vh1 I love series, so this is right up my alley.
