Not many people can truly appreciate how much effort went into this. Finding the locations, getting to those locations, the position of the camera, the elevation, the lens types, the rehearsals for the timing of both the actors and camera, shooting permission, and all of the other unforeseen obstacles while shooting on location. This is one of the best recreations I have seen by far. This belongs in a museum.
I was not expecting to see the exact interior AND exterior of the original Jones home in this remake, what impresses me is how much of it still looks exactly the same. The camera placement and blocking are ridiculously accurate too. It's a treat to watch this, hopefully someday you can make a full-scale remake of the scene using accurate props and wardrobe!

That was fantastic Ross. I was in the British Army in 1988 when they were filming The Last Crusade. I and about 800 other servicemen from British military units and US Airforce personnel were lucky enough to play German soldiers in the Berlin book burning scene, where Hitler signs the Grail Diary. It was filmed at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, England in July of 1988. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Your video put a much needed smile on my face. Well done mate.
What I find most impressive is that you even managed to match the color grading of certain shots. Really helped further replicate the feel of the original beautifully. Awesome job!!
I believe some of the shots look that way because they were shot from a much lower angle - for example the shot around 1:33. I suspect that one was shot from a helicopter. Soil can erode considerably over 35 years, but rock in these arid locations will not weather considerably.
As a 52 yr old Gen X'er who saw this opening weekend in 1989, you have hit a soft spot. Kids, this is brilliant! You've done a remarkable job here, but mostly your love and respect for Indy 3 shows in every frame. Freaking amazing! Thank you.
@@chrisidoojust look at the list of box office hits in the 80’s….you have certainly missed out on a period which unfortunately will never be experienced again.
Impressive! The effort you put into matching locations and shots is simply amazing. It was great to see them after all these years almost totally unchanged. Thank you for this wonderful walk down memory lane! Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
This was really cool. Lots of work to get the framing and movement. Funny to see the stand-ins. This was very enjoyable and I really appreciate how much effort went in to making this.
Very good! I wasn't expecting to see the house and have you go inside. I didn't know it was turned into a B&B. But the fact you went out into the desert and found the locations and got the shots is impressive!
I watched this movie so many times as a kid ( so much so that my sister got annoyed with me and hid the vhs tape!😂) Heck, it might just be my favorite movie OAT! What you have done here man, is nothing short of incredible! That’s dedication to the max and a great eye for detail! God bless ya!
As a fan, congrats on all the effort put in this. There are here and there a few tweaks that needed to be made to be even more perfect, but it is a very, very, very good effort. Not sure if this is what you're going to pursuit, but congrats, since you're moving in the right direction. Nothing like to copy the masters to learn from them! Keep doing the work! Good luck! And thank you!
Merci beaucoup!
Wowsers! This is insanely good! Spielberg would be proud, I'm sure - the attention to detail in terms of the shot set ups, lighting, blocking, colour grading and even the interiors are all just incredible! Bravo 👏
I've seen Last Crusade dozens of times (part of the reason why I choose my career path). This is amazing. Well done, so much love and hard work and it shows.
This is now the gold standard of vacation films. I want to do this in Oregon where they filmed The Goonies! Coincidentally, another Spielberg related film.
"Illuminating" (In Sean Connery's voice) The RV and bugle moment got a laugh from me too. It seemed like only one shot was made too difficult perhaps because of a lack of a crane or access to a hill? The rest was exceptional. Bloody well done!
Ross, you've got an amazing eye for detail. The work you put into this project re-creating those shots speaks volumes about your passion and dedication. You've got my Like and Subscribe!
Seriously good!!!! The motorhome scene made me laugh out loud too. This must’ve taken absolutely ages to recreate, even the time of day has been considered to get the shadows correct. Mind blown
Phoebe Waller - Woke is screaming her head off: why do they like his Indy Jones, but not mine!!??!! 😂This was awesome. Technically well done, funny(Trumpet drive bye and the Monty Python horse riding), matching every angle, this was more entertaining then the last 2 Indy movies combined. I went to Arches National in 1997, and was simply amazed by its beauty. The best vacation of m life, and even spending time in a place, where parts of that great movies were shot, extra bonus. Unlike the last movie, you show some true love and dedication to the character by doing this re enactment. Thanks for giving us some good entertainment. Well done!!!👍🏼
I’ve seen and know where most of these are in real life and would never be able to do what you did. Incredible work! Guess Cumbres & Toltec said no or maybe that’s a part 2 🤔. As a railroader, I hope they see this and help you recreate the train sequence.
Dude! That is awesome! I'm surprised there wasn't any dolly or crane motions that you weren't able to replicate. Looks to me like you got it all. I laughed at the RV driving by in place of the car at the Jones house. Too bad you didn't have some coconuts handy when you jumped on the horse. Fantastic job!
3:48 That was unexpected. Honestly, what a great tribute. No doubt a lot of planning, hard work, and fun! Great actors too. Splendid work. You had me in awe, and you made me laugh too.
This is simply fantastic! The amount of effort put into these shot recreations is astounding! I did this on a smaller scale in Iceland recently, in an attempt to recreate shots from the Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I had a blast doing that and can only imagine you had just as much fun doing this.
Absolutely amazing. The house almost looks unchanged. Great job scouting all the locations and setting the camera up in the exact spots. I can't imagine that being easy. Angles and depth all on point!!!
It’s so heartwarming to see a lot of the locations look almost exactly how they did 35 years ago! You even got the color grading and camera panning and blocking down! Phenomenal work. Always a pleasure to see Indy content! Oh and the interior and exterior of the Jones home!!
Anyone who has ever tried to do anything similar must know how hard it is to get a shot to look even remotely like the original. This is very good work
As a huge fan of The Last Crusade, this is the most exquisitely made, perfectly crafted homage I've ever seen. I can just imagine the blood, sweat and tears behind every meticulous shot. Kudos!
Not really, see e.g.1:45. But it is still extremely impressive. The matching is so perfect that the significant difference at 1:30 threw me off completely (and made it even clearer how good the matching is otherwise). Apparently, the original at 1:30 used a much longer lens from much further away and elevated ...
Well, that was just fantastic! The effort gone into that is astounding. I loved seeing all these scenes from Last Crusade, and seeing the tourists at each location really helps you see just how big this scenery is, and helps distinguish between what were used to seeing in the film, and what it looks like in real life, now.
