I think its the glamour and the global locations of F1 that makes it also appealing. Also the difference with F1 to other sports is, we do it in our daily lives, driving our cars. Not everyone plays football or baseball, but a vast majority drives a vehicle. F1 is that just turned to a million.
James Hinchcliffe, former Indycar driver, has been On-Air a bunch of times and he's great as a commentator/announcer. Go to a race, be on the grid during gridwalk, talk to Martin Brundle and see how that goes!
Yeah, he, Jolyon Palmer and David Coulthard are the ex-drivers in the F1TV team. They're all great. Ofc, the other two are British. But F1's popularity in the US wasn't that great before Drive to Survive, so it's kind of understandable. Although... it was already popular in Australia (to stay on English speaking nations) and there haven't been many Australians commentators either. 😁
that's definitely what she needs to do! She's gotta be ready to travel but they desperately need to get passionate commentators in there that are not British just for a diversified POV.
Hinch is fantastic, the F1TV crew are great - they use a lot of ex drivers & team members in their line up, BUT they're also massive star wars fans and spent last May 4th sneaking references in the broadcast. Feels like it would be pretty easy to pull that thread.... especially since the Miami GP is on may 4th again in 2025
As somebody whose main sport to follow has always been F1 since the mid 80’s and is also a big Sci-Fi fan, I feel so seen. Lots of love from Australia 🇦🇺
A woman who love F1, you are definitely my kind of girl. By the way F1 used to be on ESPN, Bob Varsha and David Hobbs were the commentators. Varsha is American but Hobbs is a Brit. Pity that Ocon is stuck in an Alpine but a great result in Brazil.
@@kb5509 It is kind of sad that that is a step up. Thanks for the reply, now I can say I have "spoken" to Katee Sackhoff. No one is going to believe me. :-)
@@kb5509 I don't know, Haas has some pretty good leadership and let us just say that Alpine's leadership is questionable. But to be honest, I am really looking to Williams next year, Sianz is a driver I like and James Vowels has done a really good job so far.
As a big F1 fan myself, I didn't know I needed this but Liberty Media needs to make it happen: give us a Katee stream on F1TV. All I need is Katee announcing a Chuck WDC, and hopefully a Colapinto podium when my Williams boots Saintz.
Glad to know you don't just have the F1 bug, you actually love the sport. I hope to see you and your family in one of the teams garages getting a real close up view
I would totally watch a F1 race with you commenting it. Why not do a small/closed race to avoid a bad start with Liberty, like Zoom or similar, and use it to pitch the idea? Put your kid in a go karting and let things unfold.
There are two commentators the Sky ones that ESPN and the F1TV ones. F1TV I think is way better than Sky. Katee can try to reach out to F1TV. F1 is awesome. Especially this season.
Jenson Button 6 ft Albon 6.1 Ocon on 6.1 I remember Button because they had to modify the cockpit. This adds to the weight issues. I believe every kilo is .2 seconds a lap.
I think current regulations are more forgiving for tall drivers. I don't think the 0.2 seconds a lap is true now, maybe it was in the past, i'm not sure, seems like a number thrown around since forever.
Yeah, the current regulations have helped with the weight issues. Driver + their gear (gloves, helmet, suit etc.) must weigh at least 80kg. If not, then the team has to place ballast on the seat to make up the difference. It means drivers don't have as much pressure from the teams to get their weight down.
Russell is also tall. The weight is no longer an issue because they raised the minimum weight to avoid penalizing taller drivers and to avoid the extremes of the past, where some drivers would go below their weight so engineers had more grams to play with. The only thing that still penalizes tall drivers is it's just harder to fit inside the car. But again not like the past, since the cockpit area is also heavily regulated to avoid the teams from using all the space available (like Newey with the MP4-18).
well see, these are the kind of celebrities we will be fine with if they come to f1 paddocks and martin brundle interviews them, someone genuinely interested. not christina aguilera or megan stallion n all
Just found out Ocon and I have the same birthday, but no way is a driver going to be 6’3”. Cyamonnn Him and Russell are both 6’1” and that’s pushing it hard. I’ve heard Russell has to wear undersized racing shoes so that they fit in the peddle box. & the f1 world is mostly in Britain + they have much of the infrastructure & racing community there so, yea, English speaking commentators are from there. When Americans do get involved they often don’t really know much about the sport and thus don’t really add much to the commentary.

Didn’t think Katee could get even cooler but here we are! Huge F1 fan myself

Katee missed the chance to show Grant Gustin pictures of Charles Leclerc. I am surprised few people think they look the same.

Ocon and Russell are the tallest at 6'1 or 6'3 and then we got Yuki whos the shortie of the grid, hes like 5'3
In the UK sky f1 channel we do have Danica Patrick present every now and then! I should imagine that yourselves get the same f1 production as us?
Drive to survive is oke but being a F1 fan is so different then watching the show….watching since 1998

Esteban is actually slower on the straight than Gasly cause his head sticks out into the central intake.
i think that for the one time he was subbing in for Lewis
