I’ve never thought of it as getting paid to live in Alaska. When they first started the dividend a good majority of people working on the pipeline were from oil producing states like Texas because they had the needed job skills. The problem was they were taking those salaries and spending them in their own states and all that revenue was just flowing out of the state that was producing it. So the administration at the time took a portion of the profits and invested it, earmarking that as a dividend to the residents to compensate for the resources flowing out and ensuring that a portion of that revenue remained in the state. I’ve always admired their foresight in doing that!

I always laugh when someone asks if I get paid to live in Alaska. I just give a flat out "NO". Then they ask about the PFD, I say a PFD is a double lifesaver. Absolutely not paid to live here!
Not anymore than if you "get paid" to invest your money.
It takes 1 year to establish residency and then you get the benefits of living in this state. Which does mean you are called "Alaskan resident", therefore legally entitled to all Alaska resident privileges.
The same as if you are a resident of Florida there is a resident rate at parks, zoos etc. If you are a resident in Georgia you get resident rates at their colleges.
You are not "paid" this discount, you recoeve it as a privilege of living there.
The same in Alaska. Our dividend is based off of sharing a percentage of the wealth made from the resources in this state.
Kinda like marrying into a family. You recieve benefits from becoming a legal part of the family.
Taxes are paid on this dividend. It was written as a 'Permanent' fund dividend.... But is disappearing as government gets greedy for the people's share of the profits. Its not enough to tax us.
A benefit of living in Hawaii is sunshine, a benefit of Florida Disneyland, a Mississippi low cost of living, a benefit of living jn Alaska is a yearly dividend $300-3K. etc.........
I have lived here sjnce before they started the Ak PFD. Now theg have set a cap on how much you can receive....$1300.
A benefit of oil being found on your land is you get mineral rights. Calling it "free money" or "getting paid to live there" is an interesting way to look at it. Like a child "getting paid" to live with their parents. They get an allowance based on rhe fact that they belong to the family.
So, welcome to the Alaskan family. Getting a dividend just means you have met the qualifications to become a part. As soon as you "break-up the family" you wlll not get your allowance anymore.
When you move you no longer recieve state benefits even if Alaskan born. The fund is to boost the economy and benefit those living in Alaska. (Although you ard free to send it all to an overseas mission) Since we have a 6-8 month winter here most Alaskans use it to help pay for utilities. Alaska has some of, if not the highest utility bills in the nation.

A rabbits should not have a nesting box until 3 days before kindling (having babies} you take it out as soon as the kits can jump in and out.. a small pile of hay is all they need if they have walls on their cage.. I kept rabbits for most of 20 years. We have very inconsiderate neighbors who don't like to take care of their rabbits during the winter. They turn them lose . Not a good thing for our garden or the wild rabbit population. So we wait for him to do this and we live trap them and we have plenty of rabbit meat for winter. No need to raise them.
