    Though she wasn't really a villain, I sympathise heavily for the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World. She was a mutant hybrid, made solely for people's enjoyment. Whilst this is true for all the other dinosaurs, she live in a tiny paddock, was fed via a dirty old crane, and locked up in isolation for years. It's no wonder she went insane and went on a killing spree. She died alone, outnumbered, never knowing what she was or why she existed. So much more character than the murderous Spinosaurus in JP3.

      ...
      No. Just No.
      The I.Rex is in no way sympathetic.
      The damn thing would kill anything that approached it when in the cage.
      She even ate her own sister (because yes, two hybris were created)
      She only lived three years in captivity, and was only in isolation as a result of her own actions.
      Her sole instinct was to kill. And maybe feed. She didn't "went" insane. She was born craving only for the deaths of whatever she encountered.
      Besides, you can't transplant human characteristics on a dinosaur. She probably wasn't aware of her "purpose"

    • @RyansChannel0203

      You make a very valid point. I totally forgot how much character the Indominous Rex had.

    • @dinosir4522
      @dinosir4522 8 років тому +8

      +Leviathan the Sea Dragon
      First of all, we don't know what happened to the sibling. Yes, Claire states that the Indominus ate it, but for all we know she could be lying (or she didn't actually see it herself, and thus could have been lied to by someone else), and if the Indominus did infact kill it's sibling, we don't know the circumstances. It could have been out of self-defence, starvation, anything.
      No creature is just born to kill on sight. Had the Indominus' been introduced to Owen (Chris Pratt's character) when they were newborns, they wouldn't have turned out as they did. Imagine that you were locked in a small paddock for over three years of your life, locked in isolation and fed by a dirty crane. You'd go mad. Anything would go mad.

    I might get some flack for this, but Zod from Man of Steel was actually very sympathetic when you think about it. His sole mission and purpose in life was to protect and/or revive Krypton, and then Superman, a fellow Kryptonian, comes along and destroys his entire plan, making his whole life meaningless. I'm not sure if I fully proved my point, but it's just my opinion.

    • @RyansChannel0203
      @RyansChannel0203 8 років тому +9

      You won't get any flack at all. I agree with you.

    • @trans8010
      @trans8010 8 років тому +3

      Except the character is very one note. the only sympathy you get from him is after the black hole swallows up the Kryptonians he suddenly and without warning cries for sympathy. that's not being sympathetic, that's forcing the character to be sympathetic. He's a boring terrorist on Krypton, a genocidal maniac Ben on revenge against Jor El using Kal's empathy for humanity against him and only after he looses everything is it is forced that he's only doing what's best for Krypton when the writing up to that point portrayed him as a raving loony bent on revenge. I disagree alot with some of these picks but leaving Zod out was a good choice.

    • @TimedRevolver
      @TimedRevolver 8 років тому +8

      +Trans8010 Zod wasn't a terrorist. He was the leader of Krypton's military created for the sole purpose of protecting the planet and it's people. When he discovered that the actions of the planet's leaders was putting everyone in danger, he tried to overthrow them to stop what they were doing, but he acted too late, then was branded a traitor for doing exactly what he was created to do.
      Granted, he could have terraformed any other planet besides Earth, but he needed the genetic codex so he could recreate their people, and it was basically inside Clark.

    • @trans8010
      @trans8010 8 років тому +3

      TimedRevolver Zod was enlisted to protect Krypton and uphold the policies and laws therein. He saw corruption yes, but he did not seek out to address them politically, nor was it implied that he tried, Zod and his compatriots sought to remove the council by force and killed many of them. It was his mission to overthrow the council and seat down as it's new ruler. A terrorist is defined as a person or persons who use violence as way to achieve a political goal. Every terrorist claims that they are doing what's best for their people. How is Zod any different?
      Terraforming the same planet that happens to have the codex because it's there, is an excuse and not a valid point, Zod had been traveling deep space for 33 years in search of the codex and not once did he encounter a planet more suitable to their needs? Earth was the battleground because Zod sought revenge against the son of his enemy. Nothing more, nothing less. Clark was a mistake, an abomination to him.

    • @Whosaskin
      @Whosaskin 8 років тому

      actually yes, Zod was somewhat of a patriot, he loved Krypton more than anything else. he neded to overthrow the goverment so he could save his homeworld.
      his coup failed he was sent to the fantom zone and only could get back when his mission to protect his world utterly failed and krypton exploted.
      then it turns out that the anomination son of his best friend had incripted in him the basic codex of the Kryptonian genome.

    "Poor, unhappy Erik [the Phantom]! He had a heart that could have held the empire of the world, but in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar."
    --"The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux
    That sums up the story to me. "Phantom" is a cautionary tale about prejudice. Of course, Erik had a choice as to how to react to that prejudice and that's what makes his fate so sad. He began life as an innocent child and ended up as the monster everyone assumed he would be based on what he looked like. If, as Leroux claims, "the Opera Ghost really existed" or if there was a real historical person who was the basis for Erik, I pray he is at peace now and that we all learn from his story.

      I absolutely agree, in fact I'd contend that he was really the only one in that movie who truly knew right from wrong, and decided to fix the wrongs committed in the world by attacking the establishments that let murderers go free on legal technicalities. In fact, the only death in that movie (Besides his wife and daughter) that I thought shouldn't have happened was his own.

    These horror movie villains also have a tragic backstory:
    1. Carrie White: She's a shy girl, and she's bullied by her bullies and her religious mother. The only one who is her friend is the gym teacher, Miss Desjardin and a reformed bully, Sue Snell. She discovered she had a telekinesis power, but had no idea on how to control it. Sue tries to make amend with Carrie by asking Tommy to take her to a school prom, it's all going well (in fact, this is the first time Carrie easily socialize with anyone) until it's ruined by her bullies, Chris Hagensen and her friends. And I gotta say, watching Carrie using her telekinesis power to kill those bitches put a smile on my face.
    2. Jason Voorhes: This serial killer had a very tragic backstory. He had a deformed face that only his mother could love. In the camp, the only person who loves him is his mother, Pamela Voorhes, as he got constantly bullied by the other kids. One time, the bullying got too far to the point he was drowned (altough he survives) and the counselors is having sex instead of watching him. After the death of his mother, he soon becomes a serial killer that everybody knows. He killed the hideous teens because that reminds him of the counselors at the camp.
    3. John Kramer: This notorious Jigsaw Killer had a very tragic backstory to the point he became a serial killer. He had an incurable cancer in his brain, he's divorced by his wife, Jill Kramer, and the chance of being a father is destroyed by a drug addict. He's driven completely mad to the point he tries a suicide attempt. After he survives the suicide attempt, he begins to appreciate lives and begins to testing everybody's will to live. His traps are rather not intended to murder the victims, but to test their will to survive. He even scolded his apperentice for not following his rules, as it will only gave Jigsaw a bad name.

    I just thought of a brief scenario and this just hit me!
    You have this one character who once likes famous celebrities but then stopped liking them because they wanted to search for something much more cooler, and have special people they can relate to.
    They started watching a bunch of movies one night and were very fascinated with the hero and villain, but were mostly focused on the bad guy. As they saw everything about them like their motives and their backstory. Seeing how much they’ve learned about the villain, they started to relate to them and feel bad for them too.
    Until, everyone began to make fun of them for praising the villains and understanding why they’re so bad. They didn’t let what they said get to them but were still hurt by the teasing and constant bullying.
    They make some new friends and share with them their love for villains as they start to get real worried about being the laughingstock again over their awesome interest. But, they didn’t ridicule the main character for they adore. Because they understand them and told them they’re the same way about superheroes but mercilessly laughed at for it.
    Then they meet one of their favorite villains and they once again hear the villain’s side of the story of everything they been through and do. While the protagonist empathizes with the bad a lot more and tells them their hardships as well.
    This is for those (and me) who are diehard fans of the villains.

      +Saucy Life Look at it from Koba's point of view. Throughout the film he is fearful and hateful of the humans due to his torture at their hands when he was in the labs. He associates humans with the cruelty and lack of compassion that led to his scars (both physically and mentally) and cannot see the kind and loving side of mankind that Ceaser has experienced.
      Even when rescued from the lab in the first film he only sees humans trying to capture and kill apes and, in the 2nd, the first humans he has seen in years shoots an ape. Koba follows them (under Ceaser's orders) and they lead him to the human settlement which is worryingly close to the Ape settlement. There Koba discovers the multitude weaponry that the humans have which can easily destroy the Apes.
      Koba informs Ceaser about this but Ceaser does nothing even inviting the humans onto Ape territory and helping to give the humans more power which could be used against the Apes! Koba comes to doubt Ceaser's judgement and soon comes to the realisation that Ceaser is a weak leader. Strong leaders keep their people safe. Ceaser is helping the humans despite the cruelty and hatred that Koba knows them to have which would eventually lead to the Apes' extirmination. Thus Ceaser is weak and Koba, who aims to keep his people safe by elimenating the human threat, is strong.
      Koba then kills Ceaser in order to wage war on the humans before they can prepare and wipe out the ape civilisation, thereby protecting his tribe. He wins the important battle at the gates of the human settlement and is succeeding in the attack, but Ash refuses to kill a human instead inciting Ceaser's philosophy that Koba hates so much. Koba cannot risk this offensive falling apart. If the humans win or escape, they can regroup and attack the tribe. In order to maintain leadership, Koba needs to establish himself as the leader and the Ash's death is (in his eyes) necessary to continue the attack on humans and therefore the eventually protection of the tribe. And it works.
      The apes who retain Ceaser's philosophy are locked up to stop them from helping the humans and Koba is successful. There is no human left free (he thinks) and by killing them Koba will keep his tribe safe from the danger of the cruel and merciless humans. He is a strong leader and has protected his tribe.
      Koba is a tragic villain because he truly believes that, even though he may have to do some awful things, by killing off the humans he will protect the tribe. The good outweighs the means. Is he right morally? No. But who caused him to be this twisted and scarred? The Scientists, the only humans he knew before his rescue.
      In the end, is it Koba who is the villain? Or is it the humans who made him that way?

      +Jayden Jezowski Well Vlad The Impaler was a very sympathetic person in real life, just because someone is cruel doesn't mean they can't be sympathized with.
      He impaled people on spikes as a warning to those that would try and invade his homeland. He punished thieves, rapists, murderers, false priests, pedophiles, anyone who committed a crime really.
      But he also built many churches with the purpose of sheltering and caring for the poor, he maintained a strict adherence to the laws of his land, it is said when he caught his troops trampling through farmers lands, he had them all hung, he meted out all corruption in his ranks, he absolutely crushed crime in the entire region, and he saved both his country and Europe at large from the expansion of an incredibly hyper-violent religion that made it clear their objective was to "Kill anyone who doesn't agree with us".
      And to add credibility to the fact that he was fighting a defensive war, Vlad Tepes only rode out of his castle to crush forces he knew would be small due to desertion in the ranks at the thought of having to "Face the Dragon".
      To his enemies, he was the epitome of evil. But to Transylvania today? He is their hero, their pride and joy. The savior of their nation, and culture. He is their equivalent of Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln.

      The questionable brutality of his historical living self aside, the undead Dracula is a undead monster for whom humans are mere food. Coppola's ill advised attempt to put at least some humanity back into him by making him love Mina because she looks like his long deceased wife (which is sick enough if you think about it) is not enough to make him sympathetic. (Fun fact: In Stoker's book, there was nothing of this long lost love rubbish, he just forced the blood christening on Mina to demoralize his enemies and to have a spy among them)

    Koba wasn't just experimented on, if you read the FireStorm novel you can learn more about his backstory, just thought it was worth mentioning

    • @samfforde5120
      @samfforde5120 Рік тому +1

      Thanks for mentioning it. I've read it, and boy is his backstory tragic and traumatic. First, Koba loses his beloved and loving mother when she dies defending him from an abusive alcoholic named Roger. Then, he's sold to an abusive TV producer named Tommy, who trains him to do silly tricks, and slashes and then burns out his left eye when Koba finally tries to defend him. After Tommy commits suicide, Koba spends years as a lab ape, being cruelly and painfully experimented on, and otherwise kept in complete isolation. His breaking point with humanity finally comes when he is sadistically taunted by Steven Jacobs, who calls Koba the "ugliest ape in the world" and tells him he is nothing but an animal. It's no wonder Koba became such an angry, violent, human-hating savage after everything he went through.

    Koba is someone I truly sympathize with. His history is tragic and an example of evil human cruelty amongst animals. I actually cheered him on when he raided and killed the humans, until he went after the children, the elderly, and his own species. That's when I had to eject my support.

    Magneto, great choice for #1. He is one of those characters that became the very evil that created him. Though I think when the Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin movie series finishes I think Casval Rem Deikun (Char Aznable) is going to literally blow them all out of the water, though only because the character has 35+ years of history already on TV and in Films.

    You know which movie villain I really sympathize with? Kitty Galore from the second Cats & Dogs movie.(Which BTW I like WAY better than the first one because they don't just have dogs as the good guys and cats as the bad guys. Being a cat person, I was always kind of troubled by that thing about the first film. Which is why I always liked the second one better because they have cats being good guys,too.) Kitty was thrown out into the cold during Christmastime by her owners just because they didn't like the way she looked. Stupid, heartless humans!
