- It’s tough being new. Jamie makes educated guesses on fitment for an extreme static drop on a new 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport - that will be driven 7,000 miles solo across America to attend the KW Suspension Expo at a racetrack in California.

Based on the excellent MQB platform from VW, the Atlas Cross Sport is produced by Volkswagen of America in their Chattanooga, Tennessee factory.
As promised in the video, the front strut mount torque for the standard setup is 15Nm + 90’. It’s not a lot!

VW are committed to going fully electric so this will also be the last 2.0 Turbo Golf R for Europe I should think. The UK has brought forward a ban on petrol and diesel cars to 2030. Other countries will sadly follow.

The full name is "Vuruza", it is originally for a VW Golf 3 VR6. No any other car sound like it (not even Golf 5 R32). There is just something special about Golf 3 VR6 (That is why it is the original "Vura").

I would subtly widen the fenders for a factory looking OEM+ widebody, then sell copies of the fenders. Maybe with custom fenders you can tighten up the overall size of the opening so it tucks a 19-20" on a wider tire for a slightly sportier drive. Really looks great already though!

I am not a fan of the slammed car culture, I think the cars are ruined that way and are tasteless, however, I love watching Jamie, his knowledge of VW's and how he explains things is a joy to watch, genuinely fantastic content.
Thank you, both for the big compliment, but also for making your point politely - I really do appreciate it. I've definitely made this car more difficult to drive and generally sillier. But hopefully it'll be fun and good entertainment in the end :-)

lol I love the static and low pro rubadubness but I would also love to see it slightly lifted with a meaty tire and more practical. Taking that across the country is going to be painful 😅

Love the Rotoforms. Might pick up a set and put them on my Alltrack after watching this series. Can I pop out the center cap on the Rotoforms and pop in the the OEM VW cap?
Not that i have seen on this specific wheel, because it has a really cool metal center cap.. But it is always fun to measure and play around !

Is the coilover kit now available for purchase? I saw KW has one for the cross sport. Will that work with the atlas as well?
Yes, and yes on cross sport kit fitting / KW aren’t saying so until they finish all the tests on both cars, but it will :-)
What exhaust are you using with your Vr6?
Can you use the Audi S or RS exhaust?

I had a custom made setup quickly made by a local exhaust friend - unfortunately no other system fits.. but I'll have more details in a MUCH later video :-)
Can you send me the info for the Big Brake Kit you used?.... wonder if this would fit a 2019 Tiguan. Thanks!
It’s the Tarox 8 piston, and it’ll definitely fit a Tiguan. Their USA manager is a big VW guy, so shoot them a message on Instagram or email etc :-)
What suspension did you use in this? Is it for the MKVII Golf? I have a 2018 Atlas and have been considering coilovers
This is a development set from KW / ST - hopefully there will be 'standard' and 'very low' versions available to purchase in the future :-)

Why is this not in South Africa as yet? Is it normally aspirated?
They are available with the 2.0 turbo and the 3.6 normally aspirated engines, both front wheel drive and 4Motion all wheel drive. I don't know how well the Tiguan does in SA honestly - I would think that the Tiguan Allspace would be the nearest thing, although the Atlas really is quite a lot bigger.

Question regarding torquing the axle bolt. I've heard and been told multiple things. Doesn't the bently manual stress in the torquing procedure that the bolt must only be torqued with the wheels off the ground?
I got a 2016 tiguan am I able to put gti or passat coils on my car to go lower currently have coils made for the tiggy and there maxed out and im not even tuckin

Dual piston calipers wow wee!!!! My 1984 MG Metro had 4 pot calipers on the front. Things have moved on ( Not )
I feel like the MG Metros I was bombing around in didn't have 4 piston brakes, haha, but you're right - definitely nothing new. The 8 pistons that I put on are a bit more exotic, but still..

It's MUCH wider than my Touareg, and the space inside is generally better used - the trunk space 'feels' bigger (i'm not sure that it technically is).

What KW coilovers are you using? I emailed them this week and they said that they do not have anything for an Atlas.
This is not public information, but the development is basically finished, and if you email or call the suspension source on Monday, you might be first on the list :-) 😅😅

What is the model number of the ST STX coilovers, they don't have anything specific to the Atlas Cross Sport, but will the Tiguan coilover work? Thank you for any information that you can share.

It will bolt up... but... I don’t know if the controls etc will be able to ‘reach’ that far.

You can't go wrong with a simple Golf R or Audi TT-S setup, but otherwise a budget setup is based on a 4 or 6 piston Brembo fitted to Porsche / Touareg etc. Then moving up you're into the custom 6 piston setups which are much easier to use but do get pricey. :-)
What exhaust is on that cross sport?
It's a custom setup that a local friend made - with the rear muffler and resonator both removed.
30 series tires ride pretty rough. I know I had them on a car and it sucked to look so good.
Is VW's HQ still in Auburn Hills, MI or did they move? Edit: I was like #666. lol
They moved the Corporate HQ to Herndon, VA a while back. There is still a satellite facility in Auburn Hills though :-)
What is done to the exhaust @jamie Orr
I had a local exhaust friend remove the rear muffler and the rear resonator with a custom made section in the rear. It's honestly a bit too loud for a normal daily.. ;-)
@@JamieOrr I did the B2B resonator delete on mine and still not load enough for me.
What does the ZR before the 22 mean?
The Z means it's rated for high speeds of 149mph or higher- and the R means Radial (which is basically every modern tire). :-)

I think the lowered look is cool. I love how the already wide cross sport looks wider. Id just destroy the car where I live. Streets have super dips, potholes, train tracks galore. Plus roads that are all rocky. So I have to make mine taller 😂

7,000 miles across the US on a paved road really isn’t anything special or difficult.
It's nothing like when I went to the Arctic Ocean slammed in a Mk5 Variant, or pan-South America slammed in a Mk7, but I still do find it a challenge :-) Episode 2 is going live tomorrow - 2,600 miles is the first segment.
