    Ring worlds are a scary but amazing concept. Hear me out:
    We’re evolved to perceive “ground” as safe, solid, stable, and secure. The closer you are to ground the closer you are to earth, safe from the empty vacuum of space or the sky for that matter. The key is that gravity pulls us towards the earth.
    Artificial centrifugal gravity is the opposite, you are traveling at a constant speed outward away from the ship where you live. Rather than the entire mass of a planet supporting your feet, there’s only a thin layer of metal and polymer containing you and preventing you from being flung into space. And if that floor disappeared or broke then there’d be nothing able to reel you back. That just scares me.
    Sadly rotating space stations likely won’t be built because they’d need to be perfectly durable and artificial gravity simply wouldn’t work like natural gravity, but It is an amazing idea…
    Great render btw!

    • @AuxenceF
      @AuxenceF 2 роки тому +2

      I don't really see how spinning space stations would need to be perfectly durable to be able to be built.
      using the same logic, appartment buildings can't be built because there is only a thin layer of metal / wood / concrete preventing you from falling to your death.
      The floor doesn't have to be thin too : the wall of the iss are made of 10cm of aluminium and kevlar, I would trust that to stand on.
      also, since the spin isn't slowed done by drag, it doesn't need to be maintained. basically, making a large spinning space station should not be that much harder than building a non spinning large space station. and you can have artificial gravity without the complete wheel, just attach two modules with a rigid tether and spin it.
      Let me dream of spinning space wheels ffs!

    • @calvinsuzuki3075
      @calvinsuzuki3075 2 роки тому +1

      I know it seems impossible to build it, but I like to believe in the technology of the future. Today, it seems impossible, like the smartphone idea in the 1980s. I hope!

    • @batman3698
      @batman3698 2 роки тому

      Durability wise, it needs to withstand 1G radially outwards. It's comparable to a steel hanging bridge on earth, but built in space in a circle. It is quite large (oneill ring concept is 8km in diameter) but it can use basic components to increase tensile strength such as steel cables. Each segment of the ring supports the opposite side segment.
      The artificial gravity produced is actually a very good analog for real gravity. Just like gravity would, it pulls all your atoms to the floor in unison with an acceleration of 9.8m/s^2.
      With the 8km one, it wouldn't need to spin super fast either. A revolution takes roughly one hour. So the rotation is about as fast as the minute arm of a clock.
      The downsides are that space have a lot of random asteroids and radiation which makes it a dangerous place to live.

    Why's your interface different and more blue-ish is it an addon ? Curious would love to know!

    • @Chorm
      @Chorm 2 роки тому

      To create extra work spaces you go to the top left corner of a space, the cursor turns into an arrow then you can click and drag. As for the blue, if you're referring to why each object is a different colour, in the drop down arrow for viewport shading you can set the colour to random.

    • @MrMoon-hy6pn
      @MrMoon-hy6pn 2 роки тому

      It's not an addon, you can change the way pretty much everything in the interface looks even down to the rounding on different types of buttons, by going into Blender Preferences > Themes. What they are currently using looks like the deep gray theme but edited to be darker/more contrasty and colourful. Personally I added colours to different things like lights to make them easier to see and distinguish in the viewport.
