    I have the Hercules saw as well as one from Bauer. I use and like both of them a lot. If you use the 4, 8, or 12ah Hercules batteries you will get greater performance from it. Dollars spent to value, it's hard to beat the Hercules stuff. Great review

    My only issue is that you're trying to compare a 60 volt saw to 20 volt saw. Of course 60 volt saw would be better power wise. Also the Dewalt battery would be heavier because it's a larger battery. So really it seems a waste to compare the two knowing that they are hugely different to begin with. A very detailed review though. I do appreciate that.

    • @PeaceIntheValley
      @PeaceIntheValley  11 місяців тому +10

      yeah. that's the "extremely biased" part of the review. You learn pretty quickly how to use the Hercules and it does cut better straighter as in it's less of a struggle to get it to cut straight.

      Thank you for pointing this out!

    • @edwardjski
      @edwardjski 8 місяців тому +5

      @@PeaceIntheValley The power difference isn't really a bias though; the more powerful saw cuts more easily and is therefore "better" in that regard.
      An example of bias might be claiming one saw is better due to already being invested in that saw's battery type -a preference based on something other than a fair comparison.
      Your review is very informative and very helpful.

    Imo I don't think many cordless saws compare with the DeWalt 60V...its a beast like you said. 60V is usually for lawn equipment etc. The Hercules does match well with other 20v tools. The extreme Herc. batteries also use physically larger, higher quality cells so they do distribute more power.
    For me the Circ Saw isnt the standout of the Hercules line (probably Impact Driver or Ultra Torque), I expect them to release a new version.
    Also there is a Beam Cutter attachment for the Hercules that basically turns it into a chainsaw. That might help for what you were trying to do.

    Loved the comparison. I’m about to by the Hercules after your review. The stump cut test and others would have been interesting if both saws were running the same blade. Just a thought. I will probably go with the 8 ah battery at a minimum

      i did actually swap blades to see if it would make any difference and it didn't seem to make any difference. Even though I have both and the DeWalt is more powerful, I do like the balance and the hook of the Hercules. i don't think you will be disappointed with Hercules.

      @@PeaceIntheValleyI think for anyone not using the saw all day everyday the Hurcules is an adequate and capable tool. Comparing a 60 volt motor to a 20 volt motor is like having a 6 cylinder motor compared to a 2 cylinder motor as would be expected the bigger motor will have more power. But the newer cordless tools for the most part will work right along with most corded tools. No longer need the cord to have the power to get the job done.
      I did enjoy your biased comparison and you did a fair job at awarding points on the scale that you set up.
      I think the biggest take away from your video is that for someone on a more budget friendly use it some time tool to get the job done is that the Hurcules line will let you have tools to get the job done with a lot less out of pocket expense.

    • @robjackson9671

      The hercules with a 8 ah will run all weekend and make 100s of cuts. I have it the dewalt 20v flexvolt advantage and the flexvolt worm drive or left handle. The hercules gets the job done and is lighter with a 8 ah than both the dewalts.

I purchased the circular saw and sawzall to build a few new work benches and with an 8ah battery they performed very well. For the price I’m hard pressed to justify buying other brands. Awesome review. Being female I probably have a slightly different take on the difference between the two. On the farm I do all kinds of woodwork including felling and milling trees, framing, carpentry, and more. For me the weight of the DeWalt would be a big minus even though its more powerful. The power doesn't help me if I'm worn out from the heavier weight and have to quit for the day. By far the accuracy for me is a huge plus. The markings as well. If I can't make out what I'm setting it at its useless. I'll be waiting until Black Friday deals probably but thank you for doing this.

    While I wouldn't expect any 20V saw to compare on performance to a 60V saw, I would say that the Hercules saw does very well in the 20V space. To be truly fair to Hercules, it would be best to compare with 20V saws of its competitors. I believe the Hercules will hold its own when compared with other 20V saws.
    This video does well to illustrate the strengths of both saws, as well as their weaknesses. These saws target different segments of the customer pool, so I think this video will help people figure out which market segment they are most interested in, and thus, which saw would be better for that reason. While both are cordless saws, the DeWalt is the one I would say is most likely to perform on par with a corded tool. I believe that to obtain that level of performance from Hercules would require the use of the corded Hercules saw.

I really would have liked to see a video of the 20 volt DeWalt vs the Hercules for a more fair comparison. I've recently bought two Hercules tools the multi-tool and the brushless recip saw. Hercules will get the job done and their batteries have a pretty good life but they're a bit underpowered. But honestly they offer such a wide variety of tools you could equip your entire shop with their 20 volt lineup. I see no need in getting their ported products though. I'm a new DIY but for some reason I keep wanting to invest in Makita 40 volt system

      The 40 and 60V tool lines are very limited compared to the 18 and 20V lines of tools regardless of brand you pick. The key is finding the brand that works for you and sticking with it....I have a few, and I can say, its a PITA when you have different chargers, different batteries, and different tools LOL. They all work fine, but you end up with a pile of chargers and batteries and none of them interchange with each other.
      One thing I'd look at is Ridgid....out of all tool brands, Ridgid has lifetime battery replacements, and lifetime service/parts agreement on their 18V tools.

However, it is what I would do in real life, especially how I have so many DeWalt tools. I know some people, by the comments, don't like that i'm comparing that but that's okay. I just purchased this saw, well saw, battery, charger combp yesterday. So I want to add a few things in the comments. One for $99.99 this is a hard to beat deal period, Second having not used the saw yet I don't know how long it will last. But I am just a handiman howmowner, so I dont think it is ever going to see job site professional work. On that note I am surprised on its construction, the Magnesium shoe and guards I did not expect and that the shoe is not just flat but has webbing in it for rigidity is also unexpected. But now to the discussed battery. 60 volt vs 20 volt is like it was said Apples to Oranges. Secondly the AHr rating and more so the peak discharge rate are the big determinaters here. It is not likely the saw shutting down but the battery. The batteries have a BMS and it determines the peak charge, discharge, and safe voltages. That said, the lesser battery likely has a lesser peak current till shutdown, also is it may also have a lesser avg current rate so the saw will not get the power it may want. I will be soon starting some summer projects and will repost my findings.

    The 60 volt battery system does increase the power factor when used over the 20 volt. Read Dewalt's literature, it'll tell you all about it. So you need to use the 20 volt Dewalt battery to check power difference. I have the Dewalt system, but I think to do a power comparison, it should be apples to apples. Other than that you did a good job of comparing those two. There's no doubt Harbour Freight has decided to compete with the big names at a much better price.

      We used Ryobi 18V stuff in the door shop when I did garage door installations....back when they were blue, and before the Lithium batteries....the only downfall back then was the battery life, tools were fine, batteries ran down quickly when used in production settings.
      I only have a couple of Ryobi tools, got them today for $99, 2 1.5ah batteries, charger, drill, and 1/4" impact driver. Not a bad dealt to toss in the pickup when I got to the pick a part yard.

      You have to be careful with that idea sometimes. A lot of times the tool they have on sale is a lesser quality, sometimes, its the brushed model that gets the sale price rather than the brushless...Harbor Freight, and Home Depot do that a lot with their tool sales....you might be getting a lower end or older model too.

    I suspect the Hercules 5AH battery still using older 18600 cells. Their 4AH ("Extreme") use the newer 21700 (something like that) cells. Am DIYer and have been pretty much all Dewalt, until recently. The price for Hercules battery + charger + tool is less than price of Dewalt tool itself. I have both Dewalt and Hercules impact driver and feel the Hercules battery goes down faster. In terms of power/speed, Dewalt feel more powerful, but for me, not significantly enough for me to buy another Dewalt. On other hand, Dewalt tools have been very reliable so not expecting to need to replace any time soon. Not a pro so I'm not using the power tools daily or even weekly. If I were a pro, heck I may buy TWO Hercules, just in case one breaks because I know I can take broken one to HB and just replace it. Have never had a Dewalt break so not sure how the warranty work there.

      All good points. I have the DeWalt Driver and Hercules Driver and the Hercules is quite a bit more powerful. Perhaps it's because my DeWalt is older?? The battery is not bad on either. I can go a half day of solid driving with the Hercules battery. Probably not quite as long as the DeWalt but I'm also driving more screws. It will get hot too putting in the 5" screws attaching the purlins to the trusses. I am a little disappointed in the circular saw power but I suspect they'll be updating it soon too like they did the impact driver.

      @@PeaceIntheValley Dewalt is way behind the curve in terms of power for a lot of their tools, most other tools brands have long passed them by, especially in drills, and impacts. Wonder why Dewalt hasn't come out with more Flexvolt stuff, like 60V drills, and impacts and utilize those ridiculously overpriced batteries....I got mine on sale luckily, otherwise they're $300 for a couple of entry level Flexvolt batteries....with the 3 batteries I have I have no issues taking care of the weed eating chores on my property, and dong some yard cleanup in the spring with the chainsaw....good tools, ridiculous prices.

    Great video man.
    I dont even bother with the 5ah on my hercules circ/recip saws, I use an 8ah. Those black 5ah batteries are worse than the old blue ones, they use cheaper no name cells vs the samsung cells on the blue batteries.
    The 8ah battery doesnt heat up as much as the 5ah and you get a noticeable boost in power. I'm not sure if the comparison is exactly fair 60v vs 20v, also do the dewalt flex batteries have 21700 cells or 18650 cells. I know the hercules 5ah has 18650 cells, the 4ah/8ah/12ah do have 21700 cells.
    Theres no doubt in my mind that dewalt makes a great saw and is more powerful but many times I'm up in the air and it's nice to have a rafter hook.
    I'd swap the hercules 12v 2ah battery for a 4ah, there's enough of a difference in power that makes it worth upgrading for as little as $24.99 when on sale.

    • @PeaceIntheValley
      @PeaceIntheValley  Рік тому

      That's interesting to know the 5v are not quite up to the task because of the internals. I just saw a project farm video demonstrating that same thing with the no name batteries for Milwaukee. They would die much faster and didn't have the power. I'll get the 8AH and see how what difference it might make.

Outside of those 2 things though for the price its where im heading only because the wen circular saw is basically a toy and my dad already gave me several batteries and theyre to expensive nowadays.

      42:03 I have both i have not open the dewalt box yet. The hercules with a 8 ah cuts a lot of 2x4s and 3/4 plywood all day long and still have half the battery left at the end of the day. The dewalt i have is the flexvolt advantage. TTC showed it has 50% more power over the hercules. I have used the hercules every Saturday and Sunday for the last 6 months remodel 3 homes. I have worked the saw and myself hard. I am impressed by hercules. Note: my first hercules saw would stop and start, I never cut any wood. Went to HF and the gave me a new one that worked nice. There really is no contention here. The Hercules is a budget, bang-for-buck product while Dewalt offers a premium professional tool. A circ saw is a pretty straightforward device so there aren't subtle features to consider. Use the Dewalt as a beater take it to places where you don't trust conditions or people. Loan it to friends when they come mooching on your tools.
