If you're expecting bad conditions best use rubber snubbers in your mooring lines. Also - good way of easing the pressure on cleats is to wrap a few turns of line around a winch drum on its way back to the cleat. Enjoy your UK break. Best. Mark.
Some Fantastic videos over the past 8 or so months guys well done and thank you. Have a safe trip home and enjoy Christmas with your family here in the UK, keep safe and something to ponder on over the next month I've watched every video and each time I just can't help thinking that for the type of travelling you do you would love doing up a van and enjoy touring without mooring fees and no rocking on the swells. Merry Christmas all...
⚡️⛈Yikes,,,,those storms looked crazy🌪⛈!!! You’re both so practical & seem to manage everything thrown at you! Big respect to you both & another totally fab video,,,,love love love you,,,,,🌟❌Momma❌🌟. Oh yes,,,,was there anything else you were looking forward to other than the TV, kitchen, lounge etc etc😂😂😂😂😂😂
Another great video. I found you through the Awkward's stream. I really have enjoyed everything I have seen of yours so far. I wish you all the best!!!
You both have a daily optimistic outlook and concerns of the moment usually only last a short while. Makes for diverse and interesting episodes. Have a safe trip back to the UK!! Thank you!
Even when it all goes wrong, you two still seem to take it on the chin and get on with it - lovely to see! We'd have to put in a word for Kiwi though; maybe you just got unlucky - twice we've had to contact them when airlines/bus operators have cancelled or changed something, and both times Kiwi have been on the ball and fixed it without question.
OH,OH, for the canals of France, where the weed is thick, and the sun is hot and the winds ,Don,t blow . If it,s only the nuts have fallen off put some spring washers on and then the nuts . Another great video , are you taking the boat out of the water whilst you go home . Take care and stay safe .
YOUR WELCOM ,that about how far I go ,glad you raised a smile ,as I do watching you two , I did think your fingers were coming off with the chopper thing ,kindest regards
Hi Mark & Nadiyana, Not good weather or marina or Kiwi, is it. We always pay by credit card, they will fight many battles for you. Glad you enjoyed the Oceanographic Musee, went there back in the early 80s, Jacques Cousteau was the Curator and it was so interesting. I bet the exhibits have changed since then. Good to see the aquarium's still there. The egg sacs are known as a Mermaids Purse, and those Pigeons. were really Collared Doves. Re: the failed cleats, I would advocate putting them back in place with mucho sealant to make them water tight, and do a proper repair next season. The best place for mooring cleats are on the deck. Use your winches to fix your mooring lines to and avoid those old springs (useful) from making any contact with Good Tidings. Get them nearer to the pontoon. If you can, double up your mooring lines before leaving the boat for any length of time. Get yourselves home and soak up the love from the family. Kind Regards, Barnacle Bern SY Cadbri
Owhh that's bad what happenned :O i am sorry it happened to you. Every 10 years or so, you should take all the fittings out (cleats, winches, rails, everythig) and put them back in and seal them well with some sikaflex. It prevents things like that to happen and it prevents them from leaking. I hope you will do it on your next boat :). And for the seasickness there is a drug you can easily find in France (its like patches you put behind your ears) its called Scopolamine, she doesnt have to wear it all the time, but when you are stuck in a very bad anchorage, it can be usefull and make her life a little bit easier :)
We are the awkwards, the awkwards, the awkwards! we are the awkwards family! Was watching the stream live, nice to see the parts we couldn't see, because of the bad connection. Have a nice time on land.
@@kenpole1840 they are pretty small but I can see how that would've come about. Probably better off replacing them with some stainless steel, or a much bigger/thicker wooden one...
Those cleats get me thinking too m’dears. Not as strong as deck cleats for mooring me thinks. Perhaps a way bigger metal backing plate would spread the load. Also extra nut on each bolt to prevent them working loose. Direction of your lines to dock important too. Hope you get time before you go to have Good Tidings snug in her berth. Happy festive season Wildlings ❤️⛵️⚓️🍻
I hope you managed to reposition those springs before you left. They were doing a real job on your bulwarks and may well have ground a few more inches off before you get back. At least get some lock washers on those cleat bolts. Nylocs maybe plus a load of sealant underneath.
I went be the first to suggest using winches to secure in heavy weather. If you can get a decent lead for your wraps without chafe that is. A headsail traveller as a fair lead is plausible, they have fastenings designed for big loads too. Just need to make sure you have plenty of anti-chafe rigged. Looks like those springs have already had a chew at the toe rail and could well get through the glass fibre given long enough.
That's scary and on top of that the big boats ain't moving and yours is bouncing all over the place I bet you guys got super sick!! You guys be safe out there I know we're all out here thinking about you!!

The storm didnt break your boat ... you did ... you cant use cleats meant for sheets as mooring cleats ... they can and will tear out ... if you need to use those cleats then take a turn or two around a winch first then make fast to those cleats if there is no other option ... when you leave the boat on your 'holiday' make sure its looked after correctly with someone checking on it and make sure its moored correctly ...bow and stern line and a fore and an aft spring lines at the very least ... dont rely on your shock absorber springs, yes they are good to a degree but there is no substitute to mooring correctly ... sometimes asking for advice from a seasoned sailor is good insurance ... old 'salts are usually willing to share of their experiences and knowledge ... good luck with it and enjoy it all as more life experiences ...
