5:35 Not to knock anyone's research. But, the key to everyone's problem lies in the distance an HDMI cable can travel. HDMI, even the best cable, is not meant to travel any farther than 10 to 15 feet. The voltage going down the HDMI starts dropping off at that point. As such, if you want it to go even farther, then you'll need a repeater.
i saved this video so i would get the right cables when i finally went roomscale and then i went and bought that damned blue cable that doesnt work without rewatching this video like originally planned
Good video anyway, but extra bonus points for the over-under coiling! I learned that method working with roadies. Not only does it reduce tangling, you can also toss a long cable coiled that way and it will land straight 95% of the time!
A USB 3 hub acts as an excellent repeater just for the USB part. Get the hub with DC power requirement to boost. Comes with AC adapter Insignia™ - 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub from Bestbuy works great for me.
your absolutely right) I have a crazy amount of USB in my pc.. (almost 25) I have four added USB 3.0 cards and one usb 2.0 card as well as two powered USB 3.0 hubs on top of the stock ones. I found that a powered hub works wonders for anyone playing VR on a laptop as well as it really helps the PC use less resources and focus on the performance)
Thank you! Your channel is a huge help. Any idea how to determine if I need to upgrade my CPU, GPU or both? My rig is an FX 8320 oc'd to 4.2 ghz, 16gb RAM and an Rx 480. I also bought the USB 3.0 card.. I still get stuttering. I think my CPU is the weak link but I'd like to be sure before shelling out more cash.
brando92711 brando92711 I have a 6 core fx prosser and with a 970 oc. I have no problems with stuttering it runs fine. Is check your ram first you should be able to run with no problem. Hope you fix the issue.
Thanks for the video and showing me others have had identical issues to me. Right now the only way my Rift works with an extension is to use a very short DVI to HDMI cable from my PC, into a HDMI Keystone coupler jack, into the Rift. And even then I have to tape the Rift HDMI connector and the coupler at just the right angle or I get nothing through the headset. I tried the HDMI repeater in your video long ago but it doesn't work with this setup either. BUT I am now going to buy the 15 foot HDMI w/ redmere, 15 foot Active USB, and another of the repeaters in case mine is faulty and to help with pushing my monitor to a TV in the room where my Rift wants to be.
Thank you Thank you for doing this video. I have been looking all over how to make a longer cable. You spoke my language and gave the links to the items to order. Good on you for contributing to the community!
Awesome man! Glad to help!)) I have another video of basically the same thing, but i've learned a bit, Now i use mesh for the main cable and the heatshrink just to finish off the ends - ua-cam.com/video/W1WJXbVGbQc/v-deo.html&t
You read my mind. I figured it would look better with the mesh so only ordered the mesh. and was going to tape the ends just like you did in the video. Good work again. I should have the cable made and ready for some whole room VR next week. Killer setup of the 3D printers in the background of that video.
It works! Thank You. I also tried the various brands recommended by the articles that come up when you search. They did not work for me. This does. At least with my Rift. Bought around early 8/17 from the Oculus website. Update... Unfortunately, I have found another issue. When I use the extensions, I get an annoying popping problem with the audio. Tried changing the audio volumes around and I can reduce it but not stop it. That also makes the sound too quite. Research showed 3 solutions are common. Move the visor USB to 2.0 (I don't have one.) Move visor USB to another USB port. (I moved it from a back port to a port on the front and it seems to be working.) Buy as USB 3.0 expansion card. (I did not need to do this but many reported success.)
The one you said doesn't work works..sorta. But it does blackout occasionally as you described; at least the 10 foot does. I've ordered 6-foot HDMI/USB cables instead which should be more consistent.
hah! the ole over under trick, under appreciated. also, i'm gonna send people here in my next video to learn all about this cable stuff so keep an eye out for it :)
I made a cable from the same specs a month or two ago now and it's been wonderful up until recently I've been getting warnings and errors in my Windows Event Viewer in regards to "The local adapter does not support an important Low Energy controller state to support peripheral mode". Still trying to debug the issue. When it works, it's wonderful.
I had the 4 meter hmd cable from my rift crap out on me. Seems to many turns while in game messed up the cable where to clip is attached to the hmd and ruptured or shorted out the cable. I get only black screen. Tested it with another cable that worked. Reached out to oculus support and they told me to buy a new cable for 50 bucks. Wondering if you or any of your followers has been able to fix this cable? The cable is barely a year old. And I am pretty respectful of my rig and cables. Thoughts anybody?
Thanks for the vid! what's weird is that I purchased 2 Redmere Cables from Monoprice (I is all the way down in AusStraylia) and neither cable worked, shows as connected but no pic (and yes, def. correct 'source'/'display connection). Repeater is the way to go
The redmere cables WILL NOT work for everyone.... UNLESS you use a repeater. Some peoples video card ports put out a stronger signal than others so the redmere at CERTAIN lengths will work for some but not others UNLESS.... You use the repeater. With the repeater it works for everyone.
Michael Griffin - They were 10ft length, I had a 1070 and upgraded to the Asus 1080 Advanced (2 HDMI ports) nothing worked (showed as working but no picture). Yar repeater is the way to go
and even then different ports give different signals. I've heard of people having the cable work using a DVI adapter as opposed to the HDMI out. Lots of possibilities!)
I can't find any 10' breakout cables on your site. Also, I wish you had listed on Amazon. I bought some mounts that I don't really like from Amazon a few months ago. I would have rather purchased your design. The selection on Amazon is very slim and lacking. Thanks for these videos!
I'll have to look into that no doubt! I don't advertise it, but I will purchase the breakout cable if someone needs help getting one! - Breakout cable is about $45 - let me know! caleb@provrgear.com
Just for reference (not in any way suggesting) I use that blue cable you pointed out earlier, 25ft length, from an AMD Fury native HMDI port. I tend to get a bit of "snow" at times, but otherwise it works. Also using the Cable Matters 16.4ft (5m) active USB extension cable. Since four sensors are using up space on two USB 3.0 cards, I'm routing the HMD USB cable from my motherboard USB 3.0 through a powered USB 3.0 hub to the 5m active USB 3.0 cable. If it goes through the MB straight I get more "trouble". I need to revisit the setup...just hate spending money on this crap.
no doubt I should've stated that different mobos and ports can power some cables differently. I know that majority cards have trouble with the ones I showed but super cool to know that AMD juices up there ports!) I agree that the money isn't always fun to spend lol but I think about it in the sense of we are the "first" gen folks and the companies take hits all the time to bring us the product. It makes sense that we have to do a bit to make it work. In the end they will see our struggle and make accommodations in future gens. I think it will become mainstream which means COMPLETE struggle free setups!)
Ok I think I just figured out why people are having problems with their rifts and why some work with extenders and such while others dont. I was looking at my rift the other day and saw that one of the contacts in the HDMI cord that comes out of the rift didnt look right. I ordered a new cord from ebay from aseller I found for $20. I plugged it in as soon as I got it. Now every single adapter that previously didnt work on my old cord work on the new cord. So I have clearly had a defective cord from the factory. Strangly though it would only work when plugged directly into the graphics card. I not have the much neede extention with the HDMI repeater that NEVER worked before with the old cord. Im both happy and a little pissed of to see that some cords are being made poorly and some arent. The quality control must be pretty bad to get a cord that dont even work right when it costs over $50 to replace normally unless you buy one used like I did. I swear when it comes to defective hardware. I have the worst luck of all becauee I always seem to get defective shit. Oh well atleast Im a stubborn bastard that never quits, because now I have a fully working solution.
My rift works with some HDMI couplers and cables if I can put pressure on the connector just the right way (it's taped to the side of my PC currently). So I agree there's probably connector issues at least adding to some trouble people have.
Hi! Thank you so much for this! I'm a new owner and this extension works ALMOST perfectly for me. Just I get sound crackling a bit which can be distracting! If the sound was as clean as without the cables this would be a-ma-zing! Any ideas on fixing this? Seems like my connections are solid otherwise.
I have 1 cable matters 10ft USB 3 that works and 1 that doesn't. Well it doesn't work for sensors but they weren't essential. I was just using them to clean up some of my cable mess.
I believe the best way to make all the USB 3.0 cables work when using sensors is to plug them into a separately powered hub whenever possible. At the same time, some cables are just not made the same as others. I have some that do not perform the same as others. Although the HDE usb 3.0 seem to have an ALWAYS ON function built-in. Aaaaaa the world of cables) It should all be ethernet cable and the HMD's / PC's should have built in BALEN systems!!!! problem solved!!!! Wireless Done! :p
The HD repeater works so damn good! Get this even if your graphic card doesn't need it. Why I said that? All graphic card is different, so you won't know if it will work. Also, I'm starting to notice something. Graphic card with two pin connectors works great with 10 feet cable. Now when it comes to One pin connector. They dont work well. So far 1070 GTX and 580 GTX works without the HD repeater and 1060 GTX(one pin connector) needs it. Either way, Get it. Don't take my words. It was my test. Thank you reality check VR. Since I have the HD repeater... I might extend my cables to 20 ft.
I just remember playing with a DarkStar quite a bit when I was using the name 'CubbyE' my buddies and I had a clan T3MPT1NG F4T3 that got the first level 50 through hard work (and boosting) lol didn't know if you were the same guy)
I got the USB 3.O extension working fine, and the HDMI also however I noticed the audio there is some intermittent popping. Would be nice if someone could specifically test that and not only the video signal.
Thank You! I can't believe I didn't go to UA-cam first. Been having problems getting everything to work properly because i needed to run extensions. Already bought a few hdmi cords including that blue one you showed that don't work. So frustrating. I've been having problems with the sensors only showing up as 2.0 USB even though I'm using a 3.0 extension cord. They also always get bad sensing yellow warnings during setup. That USB card you listed (the better one) is now on they way and I'm hoping that remedies the problems. Any advice on the sensors other than the card? I have to use extensions on those guys too so I'm wondering if it's the cords or simply not enough bandwidth for the USB 3.0. Thanks again! Been a huge help!
Got all the cables and repeater and I do get video and audio but the audio crackles a lot. I also get a thin line of green artifact on the far left side of the screen in my left eye. Anything I can try to clear this up?
Any idea why this doesn't work? I bought those exact parts only difference is I got the 10' Monoprice HDMI cable. Still won't work for some reason. Tried with and without usb extension but still nothing. Plugged HDMI directly into PC and works great. Thoughts?
For the HMD I use a $2 HDMI repeater + 3m HDMI extension cable and USB3.0 hub. For sensors USB3.0 hub + 3m USB2.0 cables. USB hubs are cheap repeaters, that's the key ingredient!
hey dude, i know your occulus centric due to thats what you have, but have you ever created a lead with the power wire extension for a vive user? wanna extend my cable for ceiling freedom of movement, but cannot find anywhere that sells those pesky power lead extensions haha
Hey I purchased all the same components as you but when I plug in the rift with USB and hdmi I get intermittent screen going black. When I plug it in without breakout cable it works great. Am I doing something wrong.
We bought 2 sets of the 15ft cables and repeater you linked in the description and have had issues. The HDMI cables simply don't work, I've substituted some 20ft passive, no-name cables I've had laying around for a while and they seem to work fine. (Model number HM14-20K) The USB 3 cable doesn't work without an external power source. I snagged one from a USB hub I had laying around and it's working fine. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my PC or the cable. Mobo: Gigabyte z390 aorus elite, no additional USB card. Graphics card: MSI 1070 tip titanium. YMMV
Bought everything the same cables but the monoprice 15 one didnt work. and used the same repeater but i had another one that was beafier so that one worked but sometimes it craps out. dont know why
Can i use the normal 10$ hdmi Female to female adapter or do i need the 17$ one? trying to save money but im not sure which will work or if the better one overall is just what i should have im only doign a 15ft cable
I cannot believe you used a 15' length of heat-shrink tubing for this. Talk about an exercise in futility... What you actually want is what is known as PET braided cable sleeve or sleeving. It's expandable and you only need to secure it with tape or heat-shrink tubing on the ends. It'll take a couple minutes as opposed to a couple hours to run the cables through, it'll be much more flexible and look a whole lot better, and it's much cheaper.
I got your setup here. Bought straight from links. I get sound poping and left and right channel switching. Sound cuts out as well. Do i need the 5v power adapter for the usb then?
I know this video is old but I have a dilemma, I've got my PC about 20 foot away from a wall plate i have mounted in a drop ceiling. I've tried so many things and do not want to go to fiber as it's so expensive. You mentioned 25 foot cable? Does it work? Any help would be appreciated.
I have no display I have everything you told me to get BREAKOUT CABLES: 15 FT HDMI - goo.gl/DZSiWv 15 FT USB 3.0 - goo.gl/mb0oAt HDMI Repeater - goo.gl/rGq8Zm
Thanks for your work here. I've been working for a month to find a solution. I did get the 15 foot Monoprice cable and the hdmi repeater you suggest. Our oculus rift headset is still not projecting unfortunately. I was wondering if you have any further suggestions. Maybe a shorter Monoprice at 10 feet? I did notice your picture showing a thicker cable then the monoprice I got. I have a 1070 ti, 16 gigs ram, i7 770. A test directly from the headset to the graphic card is successful though. Do you think a ten foot length might work?
make sure it's the hdmi and not the usb! I know someone that put the usb into a powered hub and then it gave picture. Still, 10ft def does work if 15ft does not for your particular setup)
Hey Robert! I originally used Lucksender Heat Shrink Tubing - amzn.to/2C2Nclc now I use Techflex 1/2-inch Braided Cable Sleeve - amzn.to/2BAzmoT as its MUCH easier to add bind the cable) I hope that helps!
Doesn't work, bought using your links. well it does work, but the audio cuts out about 1 to 3 mins into game play, but audio is restored after it unplug and re plug the cable in..... Any ideas.
Hey discovered your channel and it's been a big help. Tried this setup. Audio/Video feed to the headset constantly cuts in an out, only cutting in every 5 second or so. tried the same set up going through an AVI adapter first, signal got a tiny bit better but still constantly cut in/out. Then tried a DisplayPort adapter, I got completely clear Audio, no video. Any Ideas? Any response would be appreciated
so i ordered all the cables you mentioned in the video and installed them through my wall and for some reason everything is connected and working but my games aren't launching now... You know what the problem may be? The screen goes black and then a windows error window pops up saying a problem occurred, if it persist windows will find a solution...
no man that is not a good nor normal problem, did you test the cables before putting them in? It's receiving a bad signal somewhere. I've probably bough 20-30 USB 3./0 cables in the past few years and ive had 3 bad ones that worked but not all the way. Could be something as simple as that. Hoping you get it figured man!!!
hey reality i just need to uninstall and reinstall oculus and it started working then but now my headset hdmi isn't even recognized by the pc with or without the extensions... I think i need a new headset cable :/ I been talking to oculus for 2 weeks now... btw i'm 96766, nice seeing you on Echo!
Thanks for the video! does it work on a gaming laptop ? (for example the asus rog gl502gs (gtx 1070) ? that's the laptop I have and I didn't manage to get the HDMI working (only the USB extender works - I used cable matters 10 feet).
the repeater will help boost your HDMI signals and is especially helpful in laptops! If you have any stutter try a USB 3.0 Powered Hub! Hope that helps man!) See you in VR!!! :D
Fiddle with the HDMI connection in the middle. I find if I can twist the connection just right (with other cables/couplers mind you) I can get mine to work. I had to tape it to the side of my PC to keep it working :P
Brilliant! Was about to buy that blue cable from probably the same article I'm betting a lot of us stumble across. Thanks much! Edit: Well, I had no luck being able to order the Repeater, doesn't ship to Canada :( Would the HDMI Adapter still work with the 15 ft HDMI Cable?
I bought the cables you recommended. The HDMI to the Rift works as advertised. However, the USB does not. Constant static mixed with the audio. Works fine without the extension cable. Any idea why it doesn’t work for my set up? Thanks!
hey man, sorry to hear! Your problems are 9 out of 10 the USB bandwidth/power, the best fix is to try an USB 3.0 powered HUB or a startech USB card which has it's own power connector. I use two different types of USB cards with my setup) Hope that helps!
PLEASE HELP; This didn't work for me! I bought the 10ft USB and 10ft HDMI extender with the HDMI Repeater. The USB works fine but the HDMI does not work. The Rift works when directly connected to the PC without the extensions. All my drivers are updated, I placed the repeater and the cable in the correct directions, and tried all possible variations in case they were marked wrong. I connected my computer to my TV screen with the HDMI extension cable and HDMI repeater, it worked fine. So apparently there is Nothing Wrong with the Cable or the Repeater. I tried the Device Setup in Oculus but it won't detect the HDMI when the Extension cable and Repeater is connected. I tried with two other HDMI cables and that didn't work either. For info, I'm running Windows10 64-bit on an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard with an MSI Armor GeForce GTX 1080 8GB. @RealityCheckVR please help me cause I bought this because of you!
Does anyone know if there is a Clipsal compatible HDMI wall plate that Oculus will play nicely with? I have bought and tried 4 with no luck so far :( Trying to neaten up my setup but this snag is killing the whole plan
5:35 Not to knock anyone's research. But, the key to everyone's problem lies in the distance an HDMI cable can travel. thx for sharing. got mine today - completely changed my experience (i can now hang the cable for the ceiling, which means no more cable in the way)

Nice one dude. I have 10ft cables working great right now but having 15ft would always be better. Hopefully I can pick these cables up in the U.K.
Lot's of frustration led me here... I hope it works! Thanks for putting this together.
Flawless! Ordered everything you suggested and just like that my frustration is gone... Thanks for putting this info out for all of us!
@@michaelb9570 thank God.

why the hell doesn't HTC or Oculus make an extension cable??
haha good question!) I assumed they were busy with other issues... maybe it will all be wireless before we need it) for now I got you covered bro!)

Very cool intro and the video gonna help a lot the VR community.
your advice is always spot on. i chose all my cables off ur advice
Thx so much I got the 15 ft cable but it didn't work until I watched your vid

would be interesting to see what latency your repeater introduces.

Hi thanks for all your help with cables
Big big help
To every one who has rift
Thanks again
How did you get on with 5 sensors
Dit work ?
Happy to help! At this time the limit is still 4 sensors :( lol but luckily 4 do a GREAT job!))
I bought 2 Monoprice 15' Active USB 3.0 extensions for my front 2 rift cables. They do NOT work. Cuts in and out. Advice appreciated.
not enough power for the device, try a powered usb 3.0 hub

This is exactly why I need wireless VR.
Pro tip:Use 3/8" split loom instead of shrink tube.
chublez already changed over to the mesh type covers) so much easier to put on and looks nice!)
Thanks for the pro-tips Caleb :)
Anything for you JASON!!!!
OMG, finally!!! thanks so much for sharing this!!!
I might extend my cables to 20 ft.
no doubt! 20' should work fine too) Thanks for the comment! btw did you play Halo 2 with the name DarkStar?
yea, in the past. why?lol
I don't understand what cables I would use for the usb sensors? Do I need some fancy repeater for the USB cables too?
Thanks for the video! Went and got all the cables and repeater but I have no sound any suggestions?
I bought these items (15ft) and get audio crackling. What do?
Have you try to extend the break out cable to 50ft or more?
#DrumBeats Every time I hear this song I think of @GTOGER's tow videos. Thank you for the helpful tips from a brand new rift owner!
did you try the amazonbasics hdmi extension and usb extension? I heard those are really good.
Was there any lag with adding the longer cables?
None whatsoever
Got all the cables and repeater and I do get video and audio but the audio crackles a lot. I also get a thin line of green artifact on the far left side of the screen in my left eye. Anything I can try to clear this up?
I took your advice and ordered the 10ft red monoprice HDMI cable and the same HDMI repeater you have and I get no video when I hook everything up.
I have the same cables and connector. I get a few pop sounds here and there, and after a while the sound completely cuts out. :(
Any idea why this doesn't work? I bought those exact parts only difference is I got the 10' Monoprice HDMI cable. Still won't work for some reason. Tried with and without usb extension but still nothing. Plugged HDMI directly into PC and works great. Thoughts?
I give up hope on this. i probably spended over 200 euro's worth of stupid cables and repeaters. and still not working.
Wally same ☹️
For the HMD I use a $2 HDMI repeater + 3m HDMI extension cable and USB3.0 hub.
Just bought the same cable the same HDMI and the same Repeater why is the audio cutting out? Do you know how to fix that?
great information!! Thanks helped fix issues with extended cabling from other youtube poor advice.
great to hear bro!) I'm happy I could help!!! Be seeing you in VR!! :D
How do you make the hdmi and usb into one extension cord? I’m trying to put it on a pulley system and I’m not sure how to do it.
Hey I purchased all the same components as you but when I plug in the rift with USB and hdmi I get intermittent screen going black. When I plug it in without breakout cable it works great. Am I doing something wrong.
I recently got a 10ft hdmi extension cord and it's not working. Do you think if I buy the repeater it will solve my problem?
Thanks for this info... great but unfortunately Amazon won't ship to Australia. Do you know where else I can purchase from?
We bought 2 sets of the 15ft cables and repeater you linked in the description and have had issues.
The HDMI cables simply don't work, I've substituted some 20ft passive, no-name cables I've had laying around for a while and they seem to work fine. (Model number HM14-20K)
The USB 3 cable doesn't work without an external power source. I snagged one from a USB hub I had laying around and it's working fine. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my PC or the cable.
Mobo: Gigabyte z390 aorus elite, no additional USB card.
Graphics card: MSI 1070 tip titanium.
YMMV
For clarification we are running 2 identical towers. We did NOT try to create one extra long cable out of the 2 sets we ordered.
Bought everything the same cables but the monoprice 15 one didnt work. and used the same repeater but i had another one that was beafier so that one worked but sometimes it craps out. dont know why
That monoprice 15ft didnt work for me. got everthing that he had. Luckily i had a tougher 15feet one
im confused on what he says i should get and where it is in the description
Thank you for the information! I sincerely appreciate it.
I appreciate your comment! ✊
Great video man!
You using the same USB extension cables for the cameras?
yessir!
I wonder how many of these you can stack? 25ft is plenty but what if you added another repeater? :D
I'm not sure what the oculus requires, but if you were just extending the HDMI signal for TV it could reach 100' or more!
Latency would become a problem.
I have no display I have everything you told me to get BREAKOUT CABLES:
15 FT HDMI - goo.gl/DZSiWv
15 FT USB 3.0 - goo.gl/mb0oAt
HDMI Repeater - goo.gl/rGq8Zm
I always planned to come back here to find what Heat Shrink solution he uses, when ready to do mine,., But he didn't List It!!
Hey Robert! I originally used Lucksender Heat Shrink Tubing - amzn.to/2C2Nclc
now I use Techflex 1/2-inch Braided Cable Sleeve - amzn.to/2BAzmoT as its MUCH easier to add bind the cable) I hope that helps!
Wow! Thanks :) I can't believe you answered me on a holiday. Merry Christmas!
Can i buy this complete heat shrinked break out cable from you please? I'll pay for the labor parts and shipping
Are there any alternatives to these cables for me here in germany?
Kartowl Salad I'm not sure off hand, but if you pay shipping I can sendem!
Doesn't work, bought using your links. well it does work, but the audio cuts out about 1 to 3 mins into game play, but audio is restored after it unplug and re plug the cable in.....
Any ideas.
Which hmd are you using? Did you get it to work?
Do you know how to get "Spell fighter Vr" working on oculus
Hey discovered your channel and it's been a big help. Tried this setup. Audio/Video feed to the headset constantly cuts in an out, only cutting in every 5 second or so. tried the same set up going through an AVI adapter first, signal got a tiny bit better but still constantly cut in/out. Then tried a DisplayPort adapter, I got completely clear Audio, no video. Any Ideas? Any response would be appreciated
Still experiencing problems? I have a discord channel with some friends that love to help out with VR problems, let us know!
I'm using the exact cables you are. My audio keeps cutting out after about 5 minutes of game play. Always works again on reboot. Any ideas?
links no longer work to check out the cables mentioned :(
try here! - www.amazon.com/shop/realitycheckvr
I got the 15 feet setup, but keep getting lost audio connection while playing pokerstar VR ? Anyone have similar problem?
so i ordered all the cables you mentioned in the video and installed them through my wall and for some reason everything is connected and working but my games aren't launching now...
Hey, what is the background music?, did you upgrade your PC yet?
The links have hdmi extensions, any display port extensions available? I cant find any good ones on amazon
i want 10 feet cable but its expensive asf
it costs me 40 euro in the netherlands to order from the monoprice eu website
How many of thies can i conect in a row? Chan i make something go for example 30 feet?
I tried to link two together but no luck unfortunately, seems like 15 is about as far as it wants the travel)
Bought ur exact cords. I lose video intermittently, can't figure out y.
Sean Henderson same
Fiddle with the HDMI connection in the middle. I find if I can twist the connection just right (with other cables/couplers mind you) I can get mine to work. I had to tape it to the side of my PC to keep it working :P
you need a $2 HDMI repeater, worked for me.
Brilliant! Was about to buy that blue cable from probably the same article I'm betting a lot of us stumble across. Thanks much!
Edit:
Well, I had no luck being able to order the Repeater, doesn't ship to Canada :( Would the HDMI Adapter still work with the 15 ft HDMI Cable?
I use the blue cable with repeater and works fine for me
if you add the repeater it should make almost all the HDMI cables work that had trouble)
there are other repeaters out there, did you find one? otherwise I can help you out)
I have put this on the back burner for a few weeks. Sorry life threw me a curve ball and dealing with that right now. Thanks for your help
prayers to ya my friend, just let me know if I can help out in any way!
question 15ft usb is the max? OR can i buy a 20ft usb 3.0?
I bought the cables you recommended. The HDMI to the Rift works as advertised. However, the USB does not. Constant static mixed with the audio. Works fine without the extension cable. Any idea why it doesn’t work for my set up? Thanks!
hey man, sorry to hear! Your problems are 9 out of 10 the USB bandwidth/power, the best fix is to try an USB 3.0 powered HUB or a startech USB card which has it's own power connector. I use two different types of USB cards with my setup) Hope that helps!
do you have to use USB 3.0 active cables for the sensors as-well? My computer tower is about 15 feet from where my Race rig is going to be.
yep, this one here - amzn.to/2ASXhnl
awesome, didnt know if it HAD to be USB 3.0 or not
could you run one active 3.0 cable from the computer then use a USB 3.0 splitter/hub instead of 2 separate cables?
I'm using all these same pieces of hardware and still getting blackouts.
u need a better drivers
Thanks for this video
Very informative and well done!!
Does anyone know if there is a Clipsal compatible HDMI wall plate that Oculus will play nicely with? I have bought and tried 4 with no luck so far :( Trying to neaten up my setup but this snag is killing the whole plan
Would it work wit Any hdmi cable computer -> hdmi repeater -> ocu
thanks now i can also enjoy vr at its best that repeater was the key to my problems^^
