My mind is blown with the coiling technique. I see a lot of other comments mentioning this. I recently discovered the figure 8 method, but this will be going into my repertoire.
If you do theater/audio/lighting jobs. They require you to do that because every cable has a memory after leaving the factory if you go against it it will shorten the lifespan.
I have to say THANK YOU !!! I have tried many cables to extend the rift (including the Oculus recommendations) and nothing worked. The trick was the HDMI repeater and the active USB cables. Even love the cable mesh sleeve (once I finally got the cable pushed through them). Thank you for an awesome how to and CORRECT clear directions and products to make the cable.
Good stuff, i'm going to order a 10ft cable from you right now. The headset cable is really my only gripe with VR. It gets way too annoying turning around and feeling the cord pressing against my leg. Keep up the good work.
Just an FYI, the active HDMI cables already have buffers in them so the repeater isn't necessary. I just used the smaller and cheaper passive female-female HDMI couplers and it's worked flawless for many months :)
the repeater is necessary for some people running laptops and even a few people on PC's have told me they needed it. totally true that most systems will run just fine with out it though)) it's more necessary for 15ft cables, but even then it really depends on a users system from what I've heard from feedback. I did a lot of tests and many gave HDMI errors without a repeater after time. they can be as low as $6 bucks so its not so bad as a full proof for most all systems)
Reality Check VR better safe than sorry that's for sure!! :) I actually have a repeat on standby in the event that i have trouble but so far never have. That might change later with future HMDs like Vive Pro or Pimax pushing more pixels
I ended up ordering the 1/2" blue/black braided mesh made by Alex Tech and it doesn't stretch enough to get the HDMI connector of the Monoprice cable through. I should've ordered the same brand as you or gone with 3/4". I'll find some other use for this 100 ft roll. finger cuffs? lol ;) maybe i can carefully trim some plastic off of the connector without destroying it.
Hey mate thanks for making this updated video. What length and width size mesh cable do you recommend? I'm from Australia and can get 8,10,15 and 20mm width. With 5,10 or 20 metre lengths.
Any idea why this doesn't work? I bought those exact parts only difference is I got the 10' Monoprice HDMI cable. Still won't work for some reason. Tried with and without usb extension but still nothing. Plugged HDMI directly into PC and works great. Thoughts?
I have an oculus rift with a display port cable and USB cable. I am trying to extend the cables with 10 ‘ cables. Can u tell me what products are working for that please.
I seem to be having the hardest time with my headset since my pc has limited port. I have to use a hdmi to display port adapter and have bought over a dozen cables. I cannot seem to get my headset extended. It seems so simple but there must be something I am doing wrong. Love the video and plan to do the same as soon as I can get it extended. I’ve used every oculus recommendation and have used the fb oculus group for help but still no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-JP
I can't believe no-one have replied to you before now. Some people which have a new mobo, a few mobo's have an option in bios to increase voltage to specific usb ports. DAC(SOMETHING) I think. They claim increasing the voltage in encriments is more effective than a repeater/special cable. If NO cables work for you even 1m then my guess is that your psu or mobo is weak somehow. I will paste a text in the post below this what some wrote could be an option. Thought you might have tried it already:
*"Having tv show vr while using vr hmd: Got it, thanks for the info! Actually, that's a pretty common port config on discrete graphics cards. You may wish to consider a DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter so that you can connect a second HDMI device to your PC. If you're using the DP port for Mixed Reality, I'd recommend taking a look at our following page on recommended adapters:" docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/recommended-adapters-for-windows-mixed-reality-capable-pcs
I build this the exact same way using your guide and also your links to purchase the correct cables, and while trying to use this I could not get video signal to the headset. It could not even get through the setup process for the headset after trying to reconfigure. Possible problem with the 15 foot length? I am ordering the 10 foot length to test also.
A few things, and I'm sorry if it's been covered, but I didn't see it: why the repeater? Why not a HDMI jack? They're cheaper, mine is hooked up to a 12 foot HDMI jack and then the rift. No problems. Second, if you're still reading, why on Earth would you use zip ties? Velcro strips are reuesable....
what about extending the cables for the sensors? basically i want to set up the oculus in a room next to where my computer is as my room is too small to have a permanent set up but i don't want to be moving my computer every time i want to play a game.
Awesome vid! BUT.....I guess ya didn’t cover this...so in order to really get the full length of all the extensions and ability to cover the whole room, ya definitely need the power adapter for the active usb 3.0, and route an extension cord into that mesh with the hdmi and usb..otherwise you’ll be plugged in at a wall socket at the repeater section and kills the whole purpose of having an extension. I got all the parts in the video and using an Odyssey+ with 15ft extensions, and I’m getting no display on the HMD and a lot of static/screeching. Still messing around with it to see what works, but I keep checking back here on the comments hoping someone has some solutions here to that problem, or if experiencing anything similar
You shouldn't need to power the cable unless you use two of them!) Just one should be fine without it) Check the repeater, sometimes they have issues!)
Could you recommend a decent power adapter? I have purchased your 15ft cable in the past and would like to get a second one so that I can run the cable along the wall and ceiling.
i got the parts but the audio is crackly the picture keeps cutting out and when i plug it in it plays the plugging and unplugging sound a few times, any ideas what i should do? cables work fine on there own
works this solution with GTX970? can be weird question but recetly i bought an extension cable supposedly compatible with oculus cv1 but doesnt works in my pc. Looking for the problem i recently open a post where are listed compatible extension cables and the mine (Amazon Basics) is incompatible with gtx 970... my graphic card T_T.
Just curious, wouldn't just buying a longer male to female USB and HDMI cable work in extending the stock cables without buying all of that other equipment?
Hi RealityCheck. I have a mixed reality hmd and the cable has to be HDMI 2.0. It is hard to find the info, do you know if this HDMI is? And I read you got 90hz with your hmd, could you please comfirm this as 90hz is needed for my hmd. I wish to buy extensions on 25 feet if possible. Bought the usb which doesn't work due to sound tearing.
@@RealityCheckVRJust to correct, I meant that my 25 feet cable has sound issues but so cool that your 15 feet does work.
