    I don't have a child, but I use folded terry burp rags for my period. It is very comfy and I love how they are 100% cotton.

      i’m starting cloth diapering now and with $10 for one hemp insert it’s so amazingly cheap for flats!! Stuffing them in pockets is so much cheaper. 6 flats for 10$

      I’ve gotten myself more flats this time around for baby. I liked flats, but never really gave them enough of my time especially since my last baby was cared for by multiple people while I worked. So I stuck a lot with pocket diapers and AIO’s. I really like the customization that is possible with a flat rather than an insert. With inserts they would get really bulky trying to combine fast and slow absorbing natural fibers in there. I also liked how easy they washed and dried. Though I DON’T like the crunchiness of line drying them 😂 I don’t feel like I need to use the same CD science with them as I did my other pockets, inserts, and AIO’s.

    Took my 18 month old on a lovely nature walk this morning. He insists on stroking the ground, rubbing the dirt and the paths and he gets filthy fast. Then he wants snacks. My partner forgot the cloth wipes, so I improvised and we used one of the flats instead. Clean toddler hands in a pinch! We've used one as a makeshift picnic blanket for him before too!

      Those are some great ways to use a flat 🙌🏼 I totally forgot a napkin lol. That’s what we use them as the most. My toddlers are always reaching into the clean baskets and grabbing a flat to wipe their faces and hands😂

    I absolutely love flat cloth diapers! I had been so nervous to try them so with my 3rd baby I started with prefolds and found I hated them. I am a folder and I either Pin, Boingo, Snappi, or use a Bandie to put it on and prefolds just aren't my jam. So I started buying flat diapers when he was about 7 weeks old and now at almost 6 months we use flats everyday. My husband loves our flats and says they are easy! They wash easy! I love all of your reasons for using them!!

      how do you deal with the poo on trips and at people's houses? A lady I mentioned them to said she'd be carrying poo around at parties and on trips. She said her newborn pooped 4 times in a row at a party, she changed the diaper, and the kid went again, she changed it again and the baby instantly went again, four times. She said she'd have had to carry 4 poopy diapers around in the bag, stinking, throughout the party and that would never work. I don't have any kids myself, so, how would you handle that with flats? asking bc I'm writing flat diapers into a story...

    Thank you so much for this video! I want to do pocket diapers and maybe some covers. I found Alva diapers are really mostly in my price range. I don’t want to spend loads of money but I was not happy with there inserts. I can actually get the diapers without the insert. Now with this information I can use these different forms to stuff the diaper. This is my first baby and I have no experience with cloth diapers so this help more than you know!

      Yeah alvas inserts are bleh. I wish companies would stop offering microfiber as the first and/or only option. Flats are so awesome though 👏🏼 They were a game changer for me.
      I admit, sometimes I get tired of folding them lol but they wash better than anything I’ve ever tried! Plus you can repurpose things as flats like receiving blankets, which I think is really cool 💕

Getting started today and I really hope my washing machine can handle them. 🤞 Thanks for your video

      I do find that the fleece on pockets holds onto smell a little more than I’d like. That is a downside to pockets. While flats aren’t a magical fix they do wash so much better!
      Once I switched to flats I actually had to change my wash routine. I was using way too much detergent for them at first. It took a little trial and error to find a good average amount for my load size.
      My washer sucks so badly and has never gotten my diapers clean all the way. The agitation is little to none, it barely moves at all. So I often have to take a diaper plunger and agitate my diapers myself. It sucks lol

  • @kellie5138
    @kellie5138 3 роки тому

    Lol very true about noticing how much your child pees. We had to switch to flats & preflats with heavy hemp boosters. We would use joey-kicks hemp inserts. Thirsties hemp/cotton. Pair a hemp, bamboo, booster. It would hold up but he's getting too big for pocket diapers & it would cause gaps either in the legs or belly no matter what fit combo i tried lol.

    I love Jay's nest but whene she said flats are affordable I burst out laughing (crying?): here in Germany there is only one kind of hemp flat that is available through an online store, the Smart Bottoms Flat diaper, and it's ca. 15€ (= ca 17USD). I would so love to try hemp or bamboo flats but I wouldn't know where to get any (importing is 20USD shipping and it takes weeks) :( if you're on a budget, prefolds is the only option (which is ok)

    Too much detergent not fully rinsed out of the diaper will irritate the baby's skin. I rinsed the caca off the diaper in the toilet bowl. Hold onto one end and dip it in the water to get the poop loose. Pull the diaper out of the water and flush the doodoo down the drain. I had a plastic diaper bucket with a lid tp put wet diapers in until doing wash. To wash use a two rinse wash. Use a moderate amount of detergent and wash in HOT water. I used ivory snow which is very gentle. Put some bleach in the rinse cycle. How can you go wrong? I had what we called a diaper stacker. I sat down and folded diapers and stacked them in a tent like stacker that was hung in the closet.fresh diapers easy to use near changing table. I usually watched tv and folded diapers while baby took a nap. I found it very relaxing. Deposables I rarely used . 1968-1974was when zi had babies. Cotton flat diapers are still a great idea. I don't think you need to buy disposible baby wipes. I bouht and used cheap washclothes for that. Things have gotten way too expensive these days. I recomend 3 or 4 dozen diapers.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 років тому +2

      Crap, I replied yesterday but it doesn’t look like it’s there anymore 🤔 or maybe I forgot to hit send.
      The absorption rate of cotton VS hemp is literally seconds. Bailey from the CDP did an absorbency illustration talking about that in her IG stories.
      I’ve never had an issue with hemp not absorbing fast enough. Unless you have a flooded then it’s not something I’d worry about. It still absorbs fast enough for regular wetters

      My son is in cloth nappies with flats, he's almost 19 months old and is still in his 9-12 month clothes, and is just now getting into the smaller 12-18 month items he owns. It depends on the individual baby. But honestly, I find the flats are almost as trim as a disposable anyway so it makes little-to-no difference.

    • @shannonciesluk4104
      @shannonciesluk4104 5 років тому +1

      I don't think you have to personally. I am on my third baby in cloth diapers and we just avoid jeans unless they are stetchier. We don't size up. My daughter wears Fitted diapers (bulky beyond belief) and she wears 18 month pants at 2 years old. My youngest is almost 6 months and he wears 6 month clothing with a flat and cover. :)

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 років тому +1

      Sometimes yes and sometimes no. It depends on the diaper we use, because some are bulkier than others. It also depends on the type of pants we use, because some are stretchier than others.
      We rarely wear jeans around here lol so we wear a leggings, sweatpants, no pants, and rompers/sleepers.
      Regularly we do not need to size up. Stretchy pants for over everything!
      So it really just depends on what you’re using. It’s always helpful to have bigger clothes around!

      I’m not sure regular fabric stores sell that kind of fabric. Most often than not it needs to be ordered online. It’s definitely worth checking though ☺️ online shipping sucks lol
      Stretchy flats are often made of stretch French terry, stretch Jersey, and even Terry. Though (non-French) terry usually feels more like a towel and doesn’t *typically* have a lot of stretch depending on the fabric blend.
      Most people use bamboo blends. However you can get hemp blends and bamboo/hemp blends.
      I’d look for fabrics that say things similar to “bamboo stretch French terry” etc. I do have a video on how to make them. I go into detail about the sizing, explaining the different fabric blends, a couple of websites you can use, etc.
      I think the description box has a break down of the video so you can just fast forward to the parts you need.
