Somewhere in US History, everyone farmed. You were a blacksmith and a farmer. Judge and a farmer. Doctor and a farmer. Now everyone is 100% dependent on others for food.
It wasn't so very long ago. My parents knew a rural doctor 20 years ago who still made house calls. He said the reason he went to medical school was bc he never wanted his family to go hungry. He was known to accept chickens and eggs as payment.
@@PunkRockGardener, because they don't want to sweat or get dirty. I'm like you. I love gardening because i get to interact with nature and produce good things. But I don't mind sweating and getting dirty.
Less than a hundred years ago, in the 1940s-1960s, my grandmother only bought flour, coffee, and sugar at the store. They grew everything else, hunted and fished. It wasn't that long ago, and we've lost SO much knowledge since then. I'm trying like crazy to re-learn as much as I can.
All depends on how much the government meddles. Grain/Agriculture production is better now than at any point in history, the problem generally is how much the government interferes. Good example : A farmer friend here in Ohio who runs a giant import/export business for John Deere equipment. He exports primarily to South Africa, mostly to the border area with Zimbabwe. Interestingly enough, that area of the world contains soils VERY similar to what we have here in Ohio. He mentioned to me that the farming methods we use in Ohio work similarly well, and he was recently at one of his customer's farms in South Africa. He was yielding around 150 bushels for corn per acre. Not bad at all, but still much less than the 250 bushels of corn we average here in Ohio, but his seed quality & equipment isn't near as good as what we have (He's using 30+ year old equipment). Meanwhile while farming, they can see Zimbabwe...the same soil quality, but the farmers there are seeing only 20-30 bushels of corn per acre. Less than my great-great grandfather got in the same soil quality (Granted in Ohio) in the 1930s. My example stands as this : If your government prohibits/controls who gets what, you often DO NOT HAVE the best performing the work, as was the example in this case. China is in a similar condition : Their agriculture segment is HEAVILY regulated and subsidized by the CCP. Because of that, their crop quality is sub-par the US and EU. Meanwhile their fertilizer/pesticide/etc usage is significantly higher per-acre than what we use. So not only do they produce less food, they're also trashing their environment which could easily create a downward spiral.
No,the problem for us in the US is we produce plenty of food for this country , it's that we ship all our food out and then buy the same things from other countries at higher prices . It's utter insanity. Our government also pays farmers not to produce , another insane implementation.
@inannashu689 that's a lie. The problem here is companies would rather throw it away instead of feeding people because it would drive prices down and profit margins. 100% the problem worldwide is greedy capitalists.
It’s not just the govt. It’s also the food suppliers who can buy off the govt. Scarcity is great for profits. Doesn’t matter much in the end. Life is a death sentence either way.
A while ago Biden did a press release saying there would be rapid food shortages coming!! Preppers have been warning to stock up on goods for years now and everyone thought we were crazy me included. I know my family thought I was nuts for all the buckets I have stocked. Not anymore, I have a husband and three children to feed so I had to prepare. It’s hard to prep now because prices make it nearly impossible to get a lot of food at one time. We’re running out of time. Don’t go crazy on Christmas presents this year y’all! Don’t use credit cards and stock up what you can!! Grains, flours, sugar, salts, seasonings, and canned goods will be a great start. I have 3 1/2 years of rice and beans put way. There are many videos to help you stick that and preserve it. I use Mylar bags and 5gallon buckets with bay leaves inside to deter bugs! It works.
CONGRATS FOR BEING SMART. I DID TOO- 3 YEARS AGO. I READ COMMENTS ALL THE TIME THEIR HUBBY WAS MAD OR WHATEVER. TOUGH. YOU WANT TO EAT?. Being an Agricultural horticulturist my goal has been to help as many as I can learn how grow fresh food at home using their own kitchen waste to grow food at home. Taking control of your own food production at home
"at home" is a very short supply chain indeed. It's a lovely thing. I bought 10 sweet potato slips in spring and cut them into 20 (they were long), rooted them in a glass of water, and poked them into my raised bed. I ate delicious sweet potatoes for supper tonight. I probably have enough sweet potatoes to last me most of the winter, from $10 worth of slips bought in the spring. All it took was time, sunshine, and water.
I have a moderate garden and I put up 160 jars of food, 6 gallons of dehydrated pears, apples, and tomatoes, and have squash, onions, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage stored.
You might be referring to the government, but nature has its own laws. The societies that will prosper in the future will know how to work with nature. Rome fell because it did not follow the laws of nature. Not because the citizens were controlled by the government. No one should talk about freedom without knowing anything about responsibility & the nature of reality.
I know this sounds crazy but it might be a good idea for people to learn to grow their own food. If everyone grew even 5 percent of their food intake it would not be hard to gear up if you need more. It's the knowledge that's needed
How is that crazy? Just 100 years ago, most people lived rural and grew their own food and hunted for the rest. The only things my grandmother bought at the store were coffee, sugar, and flour. Knowledge and the willingness to make the effort and get your hands dirty. So many urbanites can't stand the thought of sweating unless it's at a gym, and they certainly don't want to handle compost and dirt. But they will want to eat, so maybe they should get over that.
@@oneperson5760 ironically, the solution is the problem, if you want people to produce their own food you need to increase the cost high enough where it makes economic sense to do so, otherwise it's a waste of time for almost everyone and whoever it isn't a waste of time for, they just do it for fun. This is also why fast food is so popular, why even learn to cook when it costs only 5$ for a very cheap meal potentially even an entire days calories at say little caesars picking up a pizza, or decent meals at like 10-15$, which realistically 30$ a day isn't that much, if you save just 1-2 hours eating out instead of cooking, most people are up so long as you make around 20$ an hour or more. Now if you do cook, you get things cheaper, but only by slim margins, unless you cook fancy food which again takes more time. But even with all of that look at realistically how much you save on say growing a tomato plant, over just buying a can of tomatoes, with all varieties of processing you need already done for you at the same cost. It does not make economic sense for any individual to grow food for themselves. This changes if major produces export all food to areas failing to produce food due to them paying any price to not starve to death, and it starts to dramatically impact local food prices, the same tomato example would make a lot more sense to grow from scratch and cook it yourself, if each tomato cost you say 3$ at the grocery store. This is also not ideal, because individuals producing something simple like food will do so much less efficiently than large farms, the time spent growing food, is time they will not spend working to produce other goods in the economy. This would also collapse all major cities, since they have no room to grow food, maybe on roof tops of buildings, but that just means 1 building feeds like 1 person at best, and does not account for the hundreds of other people living in each building in urban areas.
My dad is a Senior Military leader. We were talking recently and he said the biggest threat they have been observing globally is fresh water. They have been tracking fresh water which has been decreasing each and every year which they believe could lead to conflict because people will migrate to areas with fresh water supplies.

The COVID nightmare we ALL went through shows how easily humanity can go backwards in a very short time. The HYSTERICS in supermarkets with people going mental over toilet rolls. When the next pandemic takes foot and it WILL, I am afraid where to get just bread and vegetables etc....
When the war began between The Ukraine and Russia KFC had to stop selling chicken pot pies because the aluminum pans they used came from Ukraine. I've been fortunate to have been able to travel much of the world and it always shocks Americans who haven't been abroad much (or to highly developed countries only) when every meal is what is in season and being harvested. Everything is interconnected in this world so it us extremely important to learn this topic.
The Black Sea grain deal involved commitments by both sides. The EU and the US did not fulfill any clause even partially during the whole period of its existence. Russia stopped fulfilling its part only after a long time of waiting for the other side to fulfill at least part of its obligations. This is important to mention to understand who is the source of this grain shortage. The same with fertilizers. Belarus and Russia do not refuse to sell them to anyone, only demanding guaranteed payment for supplies. Maybe some global actor sees this as an advantage for themselves in the future? I don't know. But it is strange to shoot yourself in the foot on such obvious things for no reason.
This topic came up last year per fertilizer shortages ... but per storage growing season etc there is a delay in impacts ...this harvest season will show what the real outcomes are.
This is why a year ago I did the math on how many calories my family would require for 6 months, and then I went and bought double that and stored it securely.
But when the zombie leftist try to take it from you, will you have the firepower to repel them? And we all thought zombies were fiction, turns out it was a thought exercise for the real thing.
2000 calories per day per person. Let's say you've got 3 people in your home. That's 6,000 calories per day. Multiply 6000 x 365 days in a year = 2.2 million calories. You can easily store up that many calories for your household loved ones by getting energy-dense foods like rice, dry beans, peanut butter, pasta, honey or sugar, butter or shortening, dry potato flakes, canned chicken or canned tuna, etc. Don't waste money on expensive 'prepper food' from online companies. Just go to your regular grocery store and buy shelf-stable things that are dense in calories. Here's the most important part... BUY THINGS YOU ALREADY LIKE TO EAT! If your family hates tuna, don't buy tuna. If your family loves mac n cheese, then buy that. Buy what you now you will eat, and EAT IT, keeping it in meal rotation, replacing what you have eaten as you go. That way it won't go to waste.
I’m preparing myself and my family, I’ve already bought a years worth of military MRE just in case, stocking up on dry foods and emergency supplies… remember how the supermarkets looked during the height of the plandemic, the shelves were nearly empty, this next time around will be worse and those that aren’t prepared will unfortunately suffer the most… I pray 🙏🏼 that things get better…
Good on ya! But have you eaten any of those MREs? Some of them are rough. My husband is toxic after eating the jalapeno cheese. Lol, maybe we could set up a methane fuel capture system on him after he eats it!
PBD, you forget to mention why Russia pulled out of the agreement. The EU and the worst were hoarding the grain, while part of the agreement was made to avoid hunger in countries that need it the most I.E Egypt, Somalia etc
Specifically In south asia n China younger generation DO NOT want to be involved in agriculture as it is laborious, much depends on rain Gods, destruction due to floods and returns are poor. They are moving to cities to find jobs and sell lands for real estate developers. Check the food commodity prices on bloomberg for the last 3-4 years and it’s self explanatory. Wars have made situation disastrous as Ukraine has been the largest producer of wheat and several other crops. Its a ticking time bomb and food prices will shoot very high across the globe sooner than later 😡
1:18 what you want to learn is how to grow your own food! Learn about biodynamic food growing! Learn how to grow nutrient-dense food such as sprouts (alfalfa, red clover, radish) that can even be grown indoor! If people can grow so much pot in their home indoors and people can have many plants in their apartments, we can at least grow some of our food!! There’s no excuse for people who have have back yards-especially if you own your own home! You can also grow via hydroponics.
@@lovly2cu725Same! I already had a small garden, but it's tripled in size. When I was done putting up for the winter, I figured I had stored about $700 worth of food. That doesn't include the food we and our chickens ate over the growing season.

For nearly my entire life I've been saying that no nation should rely on another nation for anything. Economy needs to be segregated and completely local. Only export after you guarantee that the local market is supplied properly, and only import until you can produce the items being supplied. Why does no one else even contemplate such a simple concept. You know how many jobs would be created that way?
@@soccerkills I fail to understand your point in mentioning 2 socialist countries? There is a vast difference between guaranteeing that your people are fed, have a job, and a higher chance of having their own business vs a nation where everyone starves, vs a nation that produces but focuses more on exporting while ignoring the local market. I am Dominican raised between NYC, Florida, and DR itself. One of the highest sugar exporters in the world, but still imports sugars from other countries cause they ignore the local market.

Didn't the FDA and John Stossel point out "food insecurity" is NOT starvation, or not knowing where your next meal may come from? Rather, its forcing people to make choices they otherwise may not such as buying store-brand instead of name-brand. Instead of buying $18 big macs they may spend $10 at tacobell. Just a nitpick but words should have meaning, "food insecurity" may have been the wrong term for this video, otherwise fantastic!
For such a knowledgeable human, its amazing you have never mentioned Regenerative farming practices once. I've spoken to a couple of your underlings about it, via phone, and hope one day PBD you will take the time to do so...
10 th generation farmer here We have over the generations steadily increased productivity per acre, so much so that we have actually returned the crappiest farmland back to grazing or nature. The causes of food shortages have all vanished and changed to greed, power, corruption Its a people problem now
I've seen it said in a few different places by the likes of Bill Gates and Klaus Schwab and others that there will be some type of food shortage, so I would say that means that they definitely want one and that you should make preparations in case
That's completely doable, if you live in a rural area or a house with a lawn area that can be converted to growing. I hope more people will do that. But I see problems in urban areas, if food is scarce and some few try growing in public garden plots or on the roof of their apartment building, other people will steal from them. To grow much food, you need a secure location where stealing can be discouraged. Thieves were taking ALL of my squash and corn, til I put up a 10' fence. Now those deer and raccoons can't get in to steal and destroy. That might be harder to stop in a city, because people will climb fences.
I always shake my head when people attack Capitalism. 120 million people killed by their own governments in the last one hundred years. Not counting wars. Most of that was Communism.

Fish produce nitrogen and phosphates, I do aquaponics and it’s very sustainable. For potassium/potash I use sea weed kelp extract. Aquaponics can be used vertically with the right setup. Canned and dehydrated foods is good, but freeze dried is the best! Longer shelf life and keep’s nutritional value. 👍
With fish water, no more worries about nitrogen or phosphates. Plus you get protein with fish. The only other elements needed can be fairly cheap such as magnesium and calcium. The other two is iron and potassium, And it’s minimal.
I've been thinking about that for awhile, potatoes. I've seen videos of people making great stocks with shipping containers. Farm land if we make a type of farmland if we make them hills instead of flat land we could grow more. It would be a slower process of harvesting but it would grow more food. Crop rotation is a big thing to the nutrients that's put in the soil and taken out of the soil.
It's a miracle that the Ukranian "grain deal" lasted that long, given that none of the conditions promised to Russia were ever fulfilled. Nato was taking Russia for a fool.

Not growing any food is pretty much stupid. I'm not self sufficient but I didn't have to buy much food this summer and I planted a bunch of fruit bushes and trees.
There's plenty of food for everyone. It's just that the global system is skewed and a lot of people eat too much and eat the wrong food. If the world ate more sea food, there would be much less hunger and malnourishment.
If you have a yard, you can grow food. If you have leaves/grass clippings, you can compost. I wish people would care less about manicured lawns (which is a waste of water) and more about growing food. It would mean healthier food for many. It would also take some burden off the urban populations who might not have much or any yards. We could plant fruit or edible nut trees instead of ornamentals in public spaces. We have a half acrea in a city and put up lots of food in our larder.
It's more of a distribution problem than a production problem. Overall we're making more food than we need, but world wide struggle with distributing the vast amount to where it's needed.
Corporations are making more food than ever and the quality is at an all time low. Regulate these corporations to grow in season and release all taxes on local farming. Problem solved
PBD, I have a question regarding the Potash production research you did. Why did the two mines in Carlsbad NM here in the US not show up? Also, I wonder why they would have slowed production there? Thanks

In light of the ongoing global economic crisis, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize investing in diverse sources of income that are not reliant on the government. This includes exploring opportunities in stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the challenging economic situation, it remains a favorable time to consider these investments.
The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.
Despite utilizing the correct strategies and possessing the right assets, there can still be variations in the investment returns among different investors. It is important to acknowledge that experience plays a crucial role in investment success. Personally, I realized the significance of this and sought the guidance of a market adviser, which enabled me to substantially grow my account to nearly a million. The real food crisis we all need to pay attention is how 90% of the people are overfed and malnourish, people eat "whatever I find". and we are all eating two, three or even 4 times our caloric needs each day..
Yes. But food is difficult to store long term. Especially for transportation and distribution. If you don’t have the means to transport and store the food properly, then you can’t have it. Us Americans have cheaper food because we have so many means of getting it around and storing it.
People have always find ways to store food from their regions. The main problem here would be that we will need to withdraw from "specific nutritional needs".

Thats chi na's problem
@@SWOTHDRA I agree, but 1.4 billion hungry chinese can quickly become the world's problem.
No,the problem for us in the US is we produce plenty of food for this country , it's that we ship all our food out and then buy the same things from other countries at higher prices . It's utter insanity. Our government also pays farmers not to produce , another insane implementation.

I know my family thought I was nuts for all the buckets I have stocked. Not anymore, I have a husband and three children to feed so I had to prepare.
Food insecurity is a term for scaring people into obedience.

Defy the elites. Grow your own now
I know this sounds crazy but it might be a good idea for people to learn to grow their own food.
Exactly! Grass is a waste of water. Grow food instead.

And Russia already won that war however USA won't admit it...they still want to make $ off the narrative.

If you have a yard, learn how to garden. Eventually, your stored food will run out.
@@oneperson5760 2000 per day would be a diet for many people, and probably doesn't account for activity levels. You won't starve though, most likely.

I used to work in the freeze dried food industry. We had a massive order from some company back east who couldn't afford to pay the bill. So we didnt ship and it sat for a year before we simply through it out.
Do I understand you correctly that you threw out the freeze dried food???? You could have taken that home and life on it for a long time.
@@unknownhuman5507 Since it was packaged under the client's material we would have had to repackage it before doing anything else with it. They couldn't just donate it, give it to the workers, or sell it because of the contract. It simply wasn't worth the time and effort to repackage when we had other orders to get out the door.
Our economy struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
Things are strange right now. The US dollar is becoming less valuable because of inflation, and other powerful nations waking up to trade in their own currencies. Good thing is, a lot of people still turn to the Dollar because of the safety is somehow assures. I'm worried about my retirement savings of about $420,000 losing value because of these factors and more. Where else can we keep our money?

Not growing any food is pretty much stupid. I'm not self sufficient but I didn't have to buy much food this summer and I planted a bunch of fruit bushes and trees.
What they say: "You will own nothing and you will be happy".
What they mean: ""You will eat nothing and you will be hungry".
Guess how much each welfare person gets per month on food stamps? Enough that I could eat for 3 months.
They don't actually say, "you'll be alive in 2030", though.
You are amazing Patrick Bet-David! Continued success! We'll be watching!! Glenn's Mrs.
There's plenty of food for everyone. It's just that the global system is skewed and a lot of people eat too much and eat the wrong food. If the world ate more sea food, there would be much less hunger and malnourishment.
Bio Engineered corn from Cargill (an American Corp) is in a lot of food. Especially high fructose corn syrup.
Are you aware that many fisheries are already overfished?

Thanks
Lets not forget that almost every government in US and Europe literally pays landowners not to make food.
This is merely a way to control prices.
Vertical farming is great, but only if you have a modern power grid!

“When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.””
Revelation 6:5-6 NKJV

I strategically withdrew my profits just before the market correction, and now I am taking advantage of the buying opportunities once again.Read more

I am currently rebuilding a dust collection system for a grain/corn collection and transport company on the Mississippi River in St. Louis. This company takes corn from rail/train cars and sends it via conveyor to barges on the river. The amount of corn that gets moved around is mind-boggling. I believe food crises are manufactured from fear for profit generation. Too many people with "college degrees" that run too many made up numbers, to manipulate a made up out come.
Do you know whats even more mindboggling? The amount of food a single person consumes in a year, and the amount of people in the world.
Congrats on 5M subscribers! 🎉

Its going to be interesting to see how people treat each other in a society that rewards non workers with working peoples money if we ever end up in a major food shortage
That started with FDR.
that depends on who has the most precious metals... lead and brass. It is far better to help each other, but if all some want to do is take and take and take and never help themselves, then there is nothing you can do but keep from being consumed by the non-productive eaters.
You seem to think people are going to be unemployed because they are no good lazy bums. Undoubtedly there are people like that, but that won't be the case with most people. That will be a case of there being no jobs that pay a decent wage.
@devo196047 It's funny how some people can conclude so much from so few words, I feel like you just took me to therapy, so let me clarify what I interpret my statement as. I'm referring to the current, extremely large number of unemployed people collecting government support that are more than capable of working, while just about every industry is struggling to find workers. I'm referring to the thousands of migrants coming here who aren't allowed to work and are depleting all the resources meant to take care of the homeless issue, I'm also referring to all the healthy young adults who'd rather stay on unemployment and kive with thier parents than work a job that doesn't pay enough for their expectations. So to clarify I'm referring to all the people right now who could be working but choose not to and the absurd policies that have led to millions of more mouths to feed before even a hint of a food shortage becomes possible
@@devo196047 Taking money from people who earned it and giving it to people who did not earn it is armed robbery. And tax slavery. The last time I had a job was 1976. Start a business. High prices for everything have severely affected my plan. I'm concerned if people who went through the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am having now. The stock market is worrying me as my income has decreased, and I fear I won't have enough savings for retirement since I can't contribute as much as before.
It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of investing in the stock market and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.
