Thing is… much as I love the videos, the whole concept of BJJ guys trying to shortcut standing grappling is like judokas with no real ground trying to hack BJJ. Truly the best way is to learn basic wrestling/judo, and then get solid months and months of live work in those sports. You will get better.
Your comment doesn't make sense. New Wave have their own form of submission wrestling that has adapted content from other grappling arts for use in a different context. The video outlines their approach and you can be sure they are live training this for years at this point. As he stated in the video, this is just an outline of the theory.
The idea that wrestling in BJJ is massively different is at best wrong and at worst just a way to keep the instructionals rolling. I mean...shoes/no shoes, circular area/different area...it's getting silly. I love Danaher but he is the main culprit for the popularization of this idea, the truth is that BJJ guys still make white belt mistakes in their systems, like coming up to the side bodylock to chase the back. That's how Meregali got smashed and injured by Pixley. John shows some very bad wrestling in his instructionals in terms of technical mistakes, and overall his system is the same that you learn in high school, so I don't see this great revolution in standup that he promised. If you learn the basic skills of a hs wrestler, you're gonna be ahead of the curve. Punching in MMA is different than boxing in a ring, but every MMA team has a boxing coach or the head coach did boxing. Weird huh?...we're overcomplicating things to be cool, meanwhile Sean Strickland won a UFC belt with straight punches and a front kick that my grandma could throw. If you hyperfixate on having home-grown standup wrestlers in BJJ classes, you'll spend years speculating and making up different systems just for a D2 guy to come along and smash them after some months of getting acclimated to BJJ. This is a lesson in life too, always cut the check for expertise. You don't know what you don't know if you're not in the right environment.

can you explain what john does wrong in terms of technique in his instructionals?
but in general, there is a lot of truth to what you said
Speak and he will appear
