Meet Bobby, the man driving from the UK all the way to Australia!
In this video, Bobby tells us his story of how things in his life unfolded to this very moment, the weeks prior to setting off on this epic journey he has ahead of him!
He tells us how the lows and hard times in life, are the perfect opportunity for change, as he explains that he would of never left his 'comfortable life' to chase a dream, it was only when a relationship in his life fell apart, followed by months of misserery, propelled him to the point of change, adventure and happiness!
Bobby spent every day working on this dream, converting the truck and planning for the trip ahead!
We definitely know why the truck has the nickname 'Boujee Appartment on wheels' stick around for the tour, where Bobby shows us inside and out, as well all the the cool features and fancy touches that makes this truck feel like a classy home on wheels!
Thanks to Bobby for meeting up with us, sharing his story, and giving us a look around! We wish him and Red all the best on their travels.
To follow along with Bobby's journey, make sure to give him a follow on Instagram:

Just seen the end of this, and people who say, its not fair on the dog, or whatever they said, know feck all about dogs and the relationship, they have with us. Dogs just want to be with us, its a pack thing, and we are their leader. The best of british luck to you Bobby, you deserve a better life....and that dog loves you👍
Hi from Australia. Coming from someone who has travelled a lot. Just be mindful that countries have their own rules about bringing in animals. If your going through East Asian countries such as Thailand. Unfortunately you will not be able to bring Red into Australia after that. Make sure countries you are travelling through are not on the list that will prohibit you from bringing in Red. Also bringing him into Oz is time consuming and expensive and he will have to be quarantined for 10 days in a facility. Just wanting to make you aware so you are prepared. Good luck.
ETA: The process to bring a dog into Oz must start 7 months prior. The main factor is that Australia requires your pet to have a rabies neutralising antibody titre test at least 180 days before travelling to Australia. And this test needs to be done 3-4 weeks after your pet is vaccinated for rabies. He will also need a heap of vaccinations and blood work.
damned good shout, great post.
Top information
That was nice but dogs don’t belong in Australia
Australia have rules about rules! Awful place.
You beat me to it Amanda, and you have the details I didn’t. I have a friend who brought in 2 cats a few years ago from Saudi Arabia when she finished living and working there and it was very expensive(many thousands of au dollars) and time consuming.
A prime example of turning a negative into a positive what a top bloke
There is nothing like freedom and not having to answer to anyone. I’m 72 and honestly I’m living the dream. I have a home in Australia 🇦🇺 and just bought a holiday house in Italy 🇮🇹. I also have my vehicle totally setup for camping. What more can you want 🎉❤
to be young again probably
@@aaronfryer5086 No I’m fine being 72. Too much hard work being young
Wow I envy you
Good on ya mate
Thank you for sharing this ❤
I live in Brisbane, Australia and a saw a setup very similar to this in the carpark of a local shopping centre. Owners were from Germany and over the previous two years had driven from their home through Europe, the Middle East, India, Thailand and Malaysia before driving it onto a cargo ship bound for Sydney at Singapore. What a life for the adventurous. I was so impressed, I decided to buy a 12.5m coach and convert it into a motorhome with the aim of travelling Australia. As I write this, the conversion is 95% complete, and we're on our first official holiday in it-albeit 50km from home to see that everything works the way it should.
That's fantastic, I hope all goes well & enjoy every minute.
Having been looking at motorhomes & campers this past few months, I'm now ready to buy & go on my own adventure.
I'm just undecided on a purpose built modern motorhome by a well known brand, or a self made, older, rough, tough & ready more stealth truckcamper conversion.
The modern motorhome being 3x the price with all home comforts, the older robust home on wheels being something I wouldn't need to be too protective of.
Decisions, decisions.
@@keepitreal1547 From personal experience, may I put forward the following-many self-made ones aren't constructed that well. If you do decide on a home-made conversion, make sure that the workmanship is top notch. many sell unfinished projects cheap, after being overwhelmed by the real costs. I think we've spent about $500 on sealants alone on ours. Ensure that the fittings will survive a road trip, especially plumbing behind wall. Building a motorhome is not the same always as building a house. You need to compensate for constant vibrations with fittings. However, the advantage is that it's easy enough and cheap enough to modify it to suit your tastes. A purpose-built motorhome will be professional built and might even come with a warranty. We built our own mainly because we needed a larger shower to accommodate my wife's disability, a larger kitchen and didn't need bunks for children etc. Nothing purpose built suited us at the time.
After I thought a happy very long relationship I had to leave. I was middle aged, jobless and lost. I got into uni, got a degree, went gigging with my fave band, took myself to Barcelona, Greece and Amsterdam not in a truck tho. Met so many interesting people too. You will have a great time. If you find yourself being sentimental, have a cry, but you know you’ve opened the door to a new life with amazing potential and fun. Take care and keep filming for us!
I love the fact Bobby is taking Red with him, but Australia has very strict quarantine rules which WILL be an issue. I’d strongly suggest looking into what is required for getting a dog into Australia now rather than just winging it! Red could well end up in quarantine for some time at Bobby’s expense on arrival otherwise.
Apart from that, I love the sentiment and the truck!
“Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.” Top bloke, great truck, enjoy the adventure! ✌️
Gotta love his cool attitude.. and of course the accent. The overlander looks beyond epic and the interior looks like a real home. Awesome all the way! Good luck on epic journey!
I agree. Love this dude. Loooove his reasoning .
Good luck to you Bob. You’re fulfilling your dreams and making memories that’ll last your entire lifetime brother.
A sad story with a happy ending. Please Bobby, start your own channel!
He's very active on Instagram, definitely give him a follow 😁
He has :) @onelifetruckit
What an absolute inspiration. Love his go with it attitude - so refreshing.
Good for you mate. Good luck to you and Red on your travels.
Last Night A DJ Saved My Life - I like this man.... and I just hope he will be okay with his dog travelling internationally. Red is such a beautiful dog, please look after him.
Hello! Just thought i'd offer some help about bringing your dog into australia. A lot of people don't know that all animals entering australia have to go through a 6-month quarantine, but if you're flying from certain SE asian countries (malaysia i know for sure) there is a blanket ban on bringing pets with you. You can get around this by having them quarantine in New Zealand first, and then all animals from New Zealand are allowed automatic access to australia without quarantine. So if you're having trouble getting your dog into australia, you might want to consider doing a trip around new zealand first. There are also a lot of vaccinations and tests that need to be done. It's very hard and expensive but it's doable :) It cost me 18k aud to get my dog from malaysia to perth
Definitely an option... But the rules to get a dog into NZ are also very very strict and require vet certificates, vaccinations and quarantine on arrival. It is not cheap and your paperwork must be 100% correct. I would recommend talking to an pet import agent if you are serious about this as an option.
@@mareef9617 Well obviously i know that, since i said i brought my dog in 🤣 i didn't pay 18k and send him to NZ so he could be more cultured and sample the cuisine, maree
Keep your pants on matey potatey. You kind of implied that it was an easy option, but expensive. It's not. I worked at the border for 15 years, in this field, and have seen it go wrong many many times through lack of knowledge and prep... Hence my advice to the chanel ownerl (not you) to use a pet import agent.
I was watching this quite interested but then was thinking hang on it's not that easy to take pets to certain countries especially Australia and New Zealand too, I would hate him to get so far and have to leave the poor dog somewhere for months.
@@jujuoliver6959 Yeah :(( it's a very long and expensive process, and sometimes your doggi can be denied entry altogether. It's upsetting but the ecosystems in australia and new zealand are extremely fragile, so it's necessary. A lot of expats don't realise this when they move overseas temporarily, so they will adopt puppies and kittens and then have to abandon them when they move back home
When life gives you lemons, make lemon schnapps. He said 'bougie' ironically, but its very bougie. Red is AWESOME. It was a challange with my dog & boat/campervan adventures, but he made it the adventure that its been. He has passed away & the consolidation is; he had a life of adventure.
Bob & Red Enjoy Your Life Changing Journey.
What a Legend 🏝️🏝️
Good for you, mate, what a way to turn your life around after hard times. Live your life, man, be free! Best of luck!
Wise words from this chap. Good luck on your travels mate, absolutely awesome setup 👍🏻
Again, thank you Liveration for this video. A nice boost ahead of a hard days work chasing my own dream of freedom 😊
Absolutely fantastic mate .You have just built my dream home on wheels .I wish you all the very best of luck in your coming adventure. I have a very strong feeling that it`s going to be wonderful.
A cocktail of exuberant enthusiasm and passion with a truck ready for a nuclear apocalypse.
I’d be having sleepless nights over the bbq lid though 😂
😂😂
I'm the same! I would have to sort that lid out!
glue a strong magnet to the spot on the truck body the lid touches when fully open.
I’m From Central Victoria Australia & it’s very difficult to bring a pet to oz. I’ve copied & pasted the requirements below, please read them.
Pets travelling from non-approved countries have to spend at least six months in an approved country in Category II or III before moving to Australia. Upon entry in Australia, your pet will spend 10 days in the quarantine facility before you can take him or her home.
Also good luck-love your rig & dog!
We lived near Maryborough, Central Victoria. Now in SA..
i can't believe he did this in 6 weeks! im onto my 4th solo build and even doing 50 hours a week ive never got done faster than 4 months. im bloody impressed!
Great man my wife and my self are in our 70s and we are living life at 8yrs ago we bought a boat in Australia and a camper van had amazing time good luck in your future plans and keep us updated on your journey and the dog roz and Phil.
Good luck and safe travels. 100% agree about the dog, he's absolutely up for an adventure 👍
id leave that mutt somewhere
This guy gives off mega great vibes
The deal with it attitude is magnificent
Love the truck! I agree with Corrina that you need a ramp for the dog - which sounds quite economical. Have fun build. All the best
First Class truck and determination! Above all else dogs are the best form of security you can have especially at night. I''ve done several trips from the UK to Europe with two Rottweilers. They hear what you don't! Your dog will be invaluable especially when travelling through countries where you might not feel as safe. Have a great journey and enjoy the new life that awaits you!
I don’t think you need it, Bobby, but I wish you all the luck and I hope you find what your looking for. I think it’s bloody amazing!
Mate, I'm inspired. My partner is moving to another continent for a job and we've decided for various reasons not to go out there together. My mortgage will be done and dusted in six months. I converted a minibus into a campervan during COVID and have used it enough to know what needs refining. I'm thinking... a year mooching about maybe? Gonna take a while to save up for it. Maybe a year before I can set off. But you're so right. When you have these big upheavals and you're left wondering what's what... it's time for an adventure!
That's incredible. What an inspiration and what a Truck! Keep on trucking mate, good on you! Safe travels!
Absolutely love it! Red would 100% say "I want to come too!"
Only thing that's missing is a timber ramp with horizontal dowling strips across at every 20cm so Red can access his own home by himself! One, you can both use then slide somewhere when on the move.... See you in Oz...
Red would absolutely want to go with you. What an amazing adventure you’re going to have with him. Safe travels to you both 🫡
Just found your channel, awesome mate as an Aussie you will love it here Bringing Red Definitely no Q but going be a long haul but worth it because Dogs just aren't Animals they are family and you wouldn't leave your child behind, looking so forward being with you both on your Journey Best of luck to you Both and sending love and Blessings 🙌 Safe travels Bobby and Red GODBLESS you Both and keep you bith safe ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Best of luck mate - what a story you will be able to tell in years to come. Good for you.
Best wishes Bobby! Love the truck and sweet puppy. Life always ebbs and flows, and glad you are finding your joy again.
Epic truck. You are about to have the time of your life
Cool job with the truck! Maybe get some portable stairs for the interior and to get your sweet pup into the cab. Animals are so great to travel with. Best friend for sure!!! Good journey to you.
What an upbeat young guy, such an inspiration to anyone thinking of heading off.
Awesome truck. Every van converter/traveller that has a dog say how their dogs live it,they are different dogs. Safe travels 😊
Love it. You've done a great job. You will have the best time. Red will love his time with you. 😊
Once you come to Australia, you never want to leave 🤠. Make sure you do your research on quarantine laws as Australia’s quarantine laws are very strict, especially with animals. Your dog Red will have to stay in quarantine for a few weeks. All the best on your new adventure, safe travels.
Love it mate. All the best! I'll definitely be following the journey!
Your so right about what you spoke of at the end, life is too short 🙌
what an amazing adventure!! well done you!! Please do keep us posted, I love Australia😎
When you come to Australia and you're in the Broome area. Head up the Manari Rd to Quondang beach. Such a stunning place to camp. You need to take everything in and take it all out again. And explore the rest of the Dampier peninsula. It's amazing country.
Hey you turned your pain into your passion. You sparked it, literally. I wish you great luck. I'm keen to see your adventures.
I love your quote: top tune
What an awesome adventure. Go for it and listen to your heart. What alovely name for your dog Red. What an amazing adventure for him too.
Red you're up for one hell of an adventure 🐶
Just enjoy the pair of you 😎
I’ve watched hundreds of overland vehicle videos and this one is, genuinely, the most interesting I have ever seen. Nice truck, too. Sorry about your breakup but, hopefully, your life is more interesting for it. Safe journeys.
HE IS SPOT ON!!! ABT LETTING GO OF THE BURDENS OF LIFE!!
Another great video.👍🏻 Bobby, you've done a fantastic job on the build. It looks awesome🙌🏻
A patching kit for truck tyres would be a good idea as would hooking up the shore power connector(both of which should pay for themselves over time)
Yet again EXCELLENT. Bobby BIG BALLS what a man. And red.
Came across this video and had to double take! Great to see you doing something great with your life mate! Traveling is the best gift you can give yourself! Take it easy and look forward to keeping up with your journey.
Olly
A friend of mine drove his landrover (modified) from the uk to Thailand in 2013. He definitely had an amazing adventure, which I'm sure you would to. Definitely consider going to other asian countries (like hong kong or Singapore) rather than Thailand if you're taking the dog to Australia. I believe it's 10 days quarantine from Hong Kong to Australia at the moment.
I had such a good laugh...
Love the bougie tiny house.. It's adorable
🇿🇦
From one Wigan lad to another, good luck mate i absolutely love what your doing!
I seen an artical on Wigan Today about you and here you are again 😂 amazing mate, wish you nothing but the best!
Awsome truck.
Hope you can lock all the hatches. Double slider for the barbeque will work wonders! DEFINITELY get some kind of winch for the spares -- DEFINITLY!
that's a cool build. bougie and all. it looks great. i do like your attitude on life and your sense of adventure. good luck on your travels.
Fabulous! Go for it Bobby.
Good on you!!!! Living vs. Surviving is the way to go. Super thrilled for you my friend. Do it !!
I wish him a good recovery from his break up, this lorry should help. Sounds like a big learning curve.
Birdy
Good fortune favours the brave Bobby and for what you and Red are taking on you deserve it in abundance .Enjoy

Wow! Just so amazing! This guy is so next level!!! Wow!
What a genuine bloke. Good on you Bobby! Soak every minute up.
So looking forward to following your trip - good luck and be safe
Think a winch on the front would be handy, and cable guide wheels across the roof so it could lift spare wheel.
All the best mate. I frikkin LOVE that truck! Hope to you and Red around in Queensland bruv!
What a great interview champ!
Life is what you make it & for what I see your making the BEST out of it. The Rig is awesome inside & out & your companion Red is too cool! Blessings to you brother enjoy life you have a new internet friend, they call me KNEWLIFE..
I love this truck. The story here is so familiar to me. Its very inspiring. I feel like I might be able to reach my dreams if doing this.
Great truck build, enjoy the adventure, tx for the entertainment.
Fantastic story and positive vibe bro. Good luck, looking forward to seeing your adventures
Good for you buddy, what a great home you’ve made and the dog is well up for it 👍
Thank you very much for sharing. My wife and I always talk about "the vanlife" and I am definitely inspired by your courage. All the best on your travels
That’s amazing, very well done.
Loved this, didn’t expect to appreciate your go do it attitude so much ❤
Almost wish my life was rubbish to go do this, great emotion and wonderful build, ty for sharing this!!
Good luck mate just go for it and the dog will love it 👍🏴
Good luck to you and Red wherever you go. Enjoy the journey, you never know where you might end up. The beauty of freedom. I'm envious.
You have a lovely home, and I’m sure your dog will be happy to travel with you, good luck and live a happy life 🥹
Great DIY job mate, but if you're planning to drive as far as Australia, do yourself a favour and be a bit better prepared before you leave. It's great that you have two spare tyres, but you definitely need some kind of mechanical lift system for spare to get them down to the ground and back on the vehicle when you need to change them. You don't want to be lifting 100kg+ tyres by hand in places like Mongolia - be ready before you go. Prepare well, enjoy the trip, see you when you get here!
Great truck conversion. I hope you have experience driving such a large vehicle and if you don't I recommend you stay to the beaten paths for a while to get some experience. When you get off that beaten path your going to find handling that monster is going to take some talent. Go Slow and when in doubt think carefully before committing yourself. That is the best advice I can give you. Good luck and enjoy your adventure...oh and the world is literally going insane so be careful and keep your head on a swivel. Happy Trails.
Very optimistic. Good luck, you’ll need lots of luck on the road.
Safe travels Bobby! Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures! May bump into you along the way.
Good on you! Keep us updated, look forward to following you👍👍👍
You are 1000/0 right I only wished I did it 60 years ago but too old now , plus then it was a lot different then god speed and be safe I want to see this come of truck brilliant work man big thumbs 👍
Yea!!! Finally someone from Wigan!! Good luck Bobby! Please comment your UA-cam channel so I can follow !!
instagram.com/one.life.truck.it 👍
That is one handsome pup! 🦴
Also - how true about needing 'a push' to take a chance - Mine was teaching in London in the Nineties - I was miserable, so had to do something - so began a thirteen year series of escapades with travel; meeting amazing people and immersing myself in unfamiliar cultures. Now I am back in the UK and 'comfortable' and yup- it's hard to pick up that level of energy and motivation!
I’ll be following you our Bobby, best of luck pal
It’s completely impractical, far too big, uses too much fuel and yet I love it! The build is brilliant good job fella follow your dreams, hope you make it to Oz
Hi well I’m a x pommy bastard, i got out in 1973 best thing I ever did, I can understand your situation and the need to go do something with your life, I’m now a full time Gray Nomad travailing this wide brown land and loving it, look forward to going on your adventures with you, just one thing, please check if your importing a car/truck into Australia you need a certificate to say there is no “Asbestos” used in the construction of the motorhome. It’s not the destination but the journey that counts.
20 years in home made camper, jacked agood job in london, sold our big house in Surrey...down the .ine..never any regrets..you have to be in an adventure....well done.
Thanks Bob.
Make a foldable ramp for the dog, treaded, etc. will make everyone happy 👌
