      @@rjparry1 quality of work is not their strong suit. I think they view safety & quality as too expensive. Those of us fortunate enough to live in more modern & economically efficient countries view things different. We believe in spending a few extra bucks for quality materials & quality repairs. They consider getting something back to work in a few hours & as cheap as possible as the best. Nevermind the fact the work they do is less than acceptable by our standards, & their work most likely doesn't last very long. Meaning they have to do the same repair multiple times, whereas we spend a little extra money & fix it right the first time. Safety is appalling, sandals around molten steel & sharp metal pieces, it would be appalling the number of injuries they have, either from burns from molten metal, or cuts with serious infections.
      I wouldn't work in those conditions, the filth & utter lack of care for human lives & safety is abhorrent.

    I love these videos, but hate the tirade of critical comments by those that know nothing about the economy which dictates the way things are produced. The western world doesn’t know that it’s born with its automated CNC precision and employee safety regulations. Cut a bit of slack and admire what can be done on a shoestring with talented people that graft like hell and earn $100 a month at most.

      The nut and it's tread is large enough for something really heavy to be attached. The slots at the top mean that the attachment is highly critical and prone to vibrations that can unscrew the nut and cause catastrophic faiure.
      From the the shot of a semi with disassembled rear suspension at 9:20 i can assume it either holds hear axel or a wheel assembly on the axel.
      The problem that everyone sees is that at first this is a casting which makes it brittle, large amount of void does not help. Realy heavy cutting of threads on brittle metal makes it prone to tread stripping. Heavy tread cutting also makes the surface very jagged and will gull the thread of what the nut is attached to(large amount of voids on the inside does not help either).
      So in all we have an overloaded truck with a very crappy nut holding it's wheels. Pray to god that it will fail in the field and not on a packed street.
      And all of that can be avoided, if done with the same tools just with better procedures. For example in this video ua-cam.com/video/j2RZXPlwbrI/v-deo.html

      One should keep in mind that whether this is Pakistan or India (I can't tell which) both countries managed to independently make their own nuclear weapons. The working conditions and standards of safety for the workers and environment is what you get when there is essentially no government regulations, workers unions, or industry associations. The quality of workmanship is what you get when there are no industrial standards.

    • @scroungasworkshop4663

      Fair call and I feel sorry for the conditions these people work in but how much slack should be given to parts made that ARE sub standard and likely to fail and when they do people can die. I’ve watched dozens of these videos and I’m constantly amazed at what can be made with basic tools and scrap metal but some things need to be made properly.

    • @AnalogueGround
      @AnalogueGround 2 роки тому +1

      @@scroungasworkshop4663 Yes, agreed - they’re not going to get a contract with NASA anytime soon! What we don’t know is the context of where these parts are being used and their track record of suitability over the many decades they have been made. In their culture, the failure rate and possible injury through failure is more likely acceptable as is injury in the workplace. In the western world we have made safety and accountability the number one priority and based our manufacturing procedures around those priorities. Quality control, testing, documentation and everything that’s needed to support that approach means much higher prices and not just because it’s a better product but so everyone in the chain can cover their backs. Respecting each other’s cultures is fine but it all goes horribly wrong when the western world can’t control its imports of sub standard cheaply made goods and then blames the country of origin. It’s right and proper not to interfere with world cultures and methods but when it comes to world trading there has to be a universal high standard and anything less is unacceptable. In the UK we have the Dept.of Trading Standards and yet every day millions of pounds worth of substandard goods are imported and sold here.

The story of Oliver Twist and Scrooge depicted the situation, for modern people to consider what their forefathers went through to reach what they have now. Other countries are repeating what Britain, Europe, and the US did. Consider the past pollution due to the Casting and Steelworks, the amount of pollution due to the number of military and commercial aircraft and ships used by these countries, the electric power stations, the disposable goods that modern countries are having to face... The pollution is due to the primitive technologies in the large block Vee 8 engines in the large American family car where two tons of metal are used to carry one passenger on an eight-lane highway which polluted the surroundings while they were being made.
      The modern family in western countries need a lot of energy to survive and take their holidays. Do please work out the pollution that is generated just to keep one modern household in a developed western country! You will be surprised how selfish people living in developed countries are at the rate at which they are using, energy, natural materials, and the rate of pollution on the earth due to what we call modernization and modern comfort, including taking a holiday.
