Thank you so much for the elaborate suggestions. That's of great value in improving. Just a query; won't using Broll, tamper the flow; the video being a static evaluation?

I don’t think you can say this is ‘Toyota’s’ home grown car. This is more Suzuki than Toyota, which is not a bad thing though.
Built on Global C platform from Suzuki
Interior parts - infotainment, steering, AC, controls etc are from Suzukis vendors
NeoDrive (not Neo Hybrid, by the way as mentioned in this video) engine and the two transmissions that come with it (6 speed TC and 5 speed manual) are from Suzuki.
Toyotas contribution is mainly the manufacturing of these cars and the strong hybrid engine.
I would still get the hybrid version of this car as it so far seems the most well balanced (in terms equipment, safety, reliability, service etc) product in the segment. I will stay away from the neodrive as it is underpowered unless most usage falls in city.

Neo drive is underpowered for the category. Hybrid is not only more efficient, but also more powerful (in terms of combined power and torque figures and also in real world. I did a test drive). Hybrid feels more powerful than it’s numbers (which is already better than neodrive) because the peak torque is delivered by electric motor and it is available right from the start / throughout the rev range. Neo drive is definitely not for the enthusiast. Hybrid is also nowhere near as powerful as turbo petrols in the segment, but better than Neo drive and adequately powerful for all intends and purposes.
The neo drive all wheel drive as far as I understand doesn’t have differential (unlike mentioned in the video), instead it modulates the breaking force on wheels to achieve the same effect.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Actually Toyota has designed Strong Hybrid for more economy and environment friendly seakers. Since it is mated with an E-CVT transmission, it is bound to be sluggish. However, I admit that you have a valid point; combined power output from the electric motor and 1.5;L IC engine. So, strong Hybrid would not only be economical and environment friendly, but will deliver that output for enthusiasts too. In that case, Neo Drive would be a more affordable vehicle, as the initial investment is low.
Once again thank you so much for bringing this, upfront.
Need to do a drive evaluation too.

I would also like to correct you about AWD version of Hyryder. It has proper differential lock for handling snow and slush. It might not be a heavy off-roader. But can definitely handle mild off-roads. I'm pasting couple of UA-cam links in which the functioning of AWD in Vitara is explained.

@@WheelOcity_Official I actually test drove the strong hybrid, it was much better than the numbers suggest (116ps and 141nm). E-CVT is not similar to conventional CVT (which is slow), conventional CVT transfers power just from the engine to wheels whereas in this case it transfers from both motor and engine. Motor delivers its peak torque all the time unlike ICE making more responsive. If you see the performance it is evident - strong hybrid does 0-100 in about 12 seconds whereas Neo drive does in about 15. Neo drive is just a more affordable model, in terms of performance and efficiency hybrid is way better. Neo drives efficiency figures will fall considerably from the rated 21kmpl in city whereas hybrid actually deliver best mileage in the city and you can easily expect above 20kmpl in the city for hybrid.

@@WheelOcity_Official It definitely can do proper off-roading. I remember reading somewhere (autocar I guess) that the ESP is used to mimic the differential lock like instead of a mechanical lock it just applies brake to the wheel which doesn’t have traction there by tricking differential. Anyway if it has it, that’s great. I am seriously considering the hybrid hyryder, it’s a great package overall.

If you are going for mild hybrid get Vitara, it’s cheaper and the engine is from Suzuki so it will be better to get that.
If you are going for the hybrid, get Toyota, it’s cheaper and has 3 variants (Maruti only has 2) and is Toyotas engine.

@@raghitc828 as much as I regret doing this, I booked a grand Vitara strong hybrid. Toyota doesn’t have a clue when they can give the car, I booked hyryder in January from bangalore. Nexa confirmed a July delivery and have couple of vehicles in stock. Going to do PDI this week. If you need the car soon, do check with Toyota on tentative delivery dates. Also currently there js not much of a price difference between them, however Toyota’s service quality will be missed with GV.
