I am 75 and watch about 15 to 20 different sailing channels and I would like to recommend that you edit your sound 30% higher than you normally hear it as there are quite a few of us that are Hearing Impaired and rely on our Earphones. You will never regret buying a pilot house cruiser. I own a 48’ Pilot house cruiser and the ability to see all around you while both a sea and anchor you will love. Even the ability to get out of the weather to observe and make sensible decisions while underway is a feature that most don’t think about. Great choice of boat. The cutter rig is perfect. well done.

"We just bought a boat" - the emotions and then the process you undertook till end of purchase and sail off for your first time, is admirable. We are sailors and been watching for years many youngsters take on the challenge but without any training nor certifications, you guys are studios and safety conscious. My only advice is to not remove, rip out, change anything until you have done a year of sailing and know what you like, dislike, need to have v want to have etc.
You have a solid all be it older yacht to work with so no need to rush.

This is solid advice. I really like how you are happy to listen to experts too. One thing I cringe at is new to sailing UA-camrs creating ‘how to videos’. I get it but as someone that’s sailed for 50 years at a high level I can say I’m still learning so framing it as ‘this is what we did, still learning’ sits much more comfortably to watch. ‘How to’s’ also invite arm chair experts. Good luck navigating that.
You guys have bagged yourselves one hell of a yacht. Best of luck from a long time sailor. I recently bought a 44’ ketch upgrading from a 32’. Mine is also an older boat and has a pilot house which is such a great space to sit in and enjoy the view. How exciting! The best days of a boat owner's life are the day they buy her and the day they sell her. In between those two days is a lifetime of outstanding memories that few people get to experience. IMO, there is nothing like spending some time in your life at sea, it is both exhilarating and humbling. She appears to be a custom built 48" Franchini sloop. I don't know anything about Franchini yachts but I'm sure you will teach us all in time, I'd love to know the history of the boat. I look forward to a video tour of your new home. Congratulations!
PS: The first thing I'd buy before heading offshore is a cheap but rugged laptop and an Iridium GO satellite receiver with a subscription to Predict Wind. It's money well spent.
Haha! We have heard this saying many times… but also the point on it becoming a lifetime of experiences. We are ready for the rollercoaster that is to come that’s for sure! Yes, she is a Franchini 45L. We have just posted a new video where we go into a bit more detail on the make of the boat, although we are struggling to find a lot of information! Just a heads up. There will be lots of people telling to to give up. lots of naysayers lots of people telling you what you are doing wrong. IGNORE all these people they will only serve to discourage you and bring you down. Hold fast to your dream. Love knowledge and embrace your failures for they will lay the foundations for all your success. You will be spending a lot of time together so it will serve you well to remember that conflict is meant to drive you apart. When this happens band together, put the problem out in front of the both of you and come up with a solution you can both get behind and kick ass.

I first sailed a cutter 12 years ago. I lived on board for 9 months sailing around NZ and Tonga. I'll never forget it. I made some amazing friends and met some of the most interesting people.
It was the first time I'd sailed and I've been hooked ever since, but only able to live my dream through UA-cam content.

Who edited this!? This was so well done. I’m assuming one or both of you have another UA-cam channel because this is crazy for a first video.
I can’t tell you how many times I try to watch a sailing channel and then get immediately annoyed by the people in it but you guys are great, very casual and laidback, no in-your-face or over the top nonsense, and extremely honest.
It probably helps that you’re not American (I’m allowed to say this)
Anyway please make videos like this of all the journeys you take, it’s rare I subscribe to a sailing channel but here we go

Wow, you guys are really green and that is a large 1st yacht. Please do not be too ambitious or eager to do long offshore trips without experienced crew. I am a master mariner and the sea has been my home for well over 40 yrs. That said, electronic navigation and communications make the prospect of longer voyages a less daunting adventure these days. Stay safe and happy cruising!
We sure are - yes she is a good size but is going to be a full time liveaboard and we wanted something substantial for when we do our ocean passages in the future. Lots of smaller coastal trips to be done first and we fully respect the sea - we will take our time with the process ☺️ Thank you!⛵️

Im guessing you've seen Teulu Tribe's channel, which is a very similar boat, albeit a little smaller. Yours is an absolute unit!
Having read about 15000 survey reports in the course of my career, I can kind of predict the areas that may need attention. Top 3 are the rudder, the rig tension and inside the headsail furling foil.
All rudders on yachts have issues, they're a highly stressed component. Just make sure you've done everything the surveyor told you to do.
Rig tension. Get advice from a spar maker, or pro rigger, loose rigging can cause failure in unforeseen ways. Mizzen masts seem particularly prone to this.
The forestay inside the foil is out of sight and out of mind, be very careful that it hasn't degraded unseen. Best wishes to the northwest, brings back childhood memories 😂
I actually watch another English couple Zac&Becca who did what you are doing, they are currently in the Panama just over a year since they bought their boat, they started off just like you two, so I'm going watch along as you get your boat to the way you want it and sail the big blue, best of British luck as they say,. I'm a Kiwi living in China and watching this

Hi I was just walking from my boat at Fleetwood Marina. I’m talking to one of the other boat owners and they told me that somebody had a UA-cam channel and they were in in this marina. Just tuned in to your channel and very similar really I’ve bought my boat from Milford Haven and sailed it up. Single landed to Fleetwood, in early May this year I’m getting ready to leave for the Mediterranean next May.
