I just realised that the last segment about me getting fired and quitting from my translation work (at least for now) might have sounded a bit gloomy, but I didn't mean it like that! I think it has been a good change for me and I can always try and get new translation clients if I want to. But right now I want to delve deeper into this video thing! And that wouldn't be possible without all of you watching these videos, so thank you!
One door closes another opens, best of luck to both of ye.
You've probably all been replaced by ChatGPT, or something similar. Let's just hope it is something better than Google captions.
As one door closes, another one opens...
It's all about the journey, enjoy it 🤙
I watch a lot of sailing ocean crossings, solos, cruising live aboard sailing etc. your boats and your goals are the most unique. And what you do is harder because you seek the cold and the lonely.
(10 year US navy veteran, 4 Tran pacific crossings, many patrols from Central America up to Canada. ) I’ve been on the Columbia river, and lots of ocean in between.
I will be fishing in Yakutat Alaska in July this year. I wonder if you will be beyond that point by then? I would love to meet you both and see the boat if you are there at the same time.
It’s always a great day when one of your videos appears, Juho. I’ll always be a fan!
Sorry to hear your news about your work, I have sent you a small gift. I love the videos very many thanks. I am 80 years old and have terminal cancer, but you videos take my mind off my problems and make me happy, thank you and every best wish for the future from the UK.
Thats nice of you to help them out. I dont get out regularly so I can understand why its nice to get out a little via the computer. Best wishes. .
Hi Peter Try to act and feel like you have no cancer anymore . First in your mind and spirit, then with your body. And the most important...always happy.
Good for you Peter. Best wishes and keep your spirits up. Wish you well
Peter Brameld I'm sending you a hug. (((Peter)))
God Bless You Good sir!
I am a sailor and watch a number of channels but yours is very unique. Keep up the good work and I am confident that it will work out well
I’ve watched your videos for years now and will say you take thousands of people to places we will never see and things we will never be able to do. That’s something quite valuable at least to me. I will try to support you guys whenever I can. Hope everyone else will too. Thank you for you work and keep it up !!
the termination notice is a blessing in disguise! recently stumbled upon your channel and boy am I hooked! and another skill you didn't mention is that you're incredible at fixing things. keep doing this UA-cam thing, it seems to be going great)
It has been my experience that when one door closes another will open. That's life for most of us. I've watched you for some time now and always look forward to your videos. You are more than capable of creating a new path to follow. You have a vast knowledge of sailing / navigation to tap into. In addition you have a great supportive partner to help you achieve your goals. You are a man of courage and I am certain you will be successful in your journey. Hold fast! Stay the course!
Your videography is incredible, and you're sailing in place no one else is covering.
The scenery is stunning and the sailing challenging.
I'm sure you'll survive without the translation job.
Speaking as someone who knows nothing about sailing, I can see that you are very knowledgeable, experienced and industrious and the challenges you've faced you've dealt with so well. You and Sohvi have overcome so many obstacles together, I think the two of you can face anything. As for the loss of your job, I'm sure you have heard the old adage that "when one door closes, another one opens". You are a very smart intuitive man and you will see and seize the opportunities awaiting you. All the best for the two of you in the next weeks and months. I really enjoy your videos!
You’re da best! Seriously we really appreciate the unique quality of the shots the editing and storytelling. You’ve got talent!
Something will come your way! You and Sohvi are two top-notch human beings!
Thanks for another field trip!
Most other sailing videos are around 15-20 minutes and that is about my attention span as they are pretty repetitive, most are based in the Bahamas, your videos are amazing, 43 minutes of documentary style editing, truely professional, bloody awesome!
As one door closes, another door opens - such is life. Good luck in your new direction, whatever that may be! 🙏
You are doing a great job with the editing of several camera angles and awesome drone shots.
Keep it up mate, you're making great content!
Youre an incredible video creator/ editor. You make some of the best content out there in my opinion. Good luck on your new endevor.
You’re in your own category…..the special inspiration no stupid ego category. Thank you 🙏🏽🥰
Now is the time to make positive changes and I hope you will grow as a filmmaker. I would love to see more of the wildlife you encounter in the remote areas you travel.
i'm always looking for grizzelies....and orca's.
I enjoy your film. When you think of sailboats you think of palm trees and sandy beaches, But you go the route less travel. Keep The faith. and keep recording.
That’s some world class sailing y’all. Helluva job.
You’re so calm and controlled. It’s an important thing to be when out at sea . Loving all your videos.
Thank you for sharing it all with us. You guys are unique in many ways. Praying for wisdom for you both. ❤
Absolutely one of my favorite sailing channels. And I love the Finnish soul that sips through, you fins are special. /Ruotsalainen
She is a beautiful boat. Very slippery hull, well mannered, and the gybe was just about perfect. I’d feel better with a boom brake, too. You guys did very well through the nerve-wracking navigation. It is exhausting. I wish you well on your career transition. I think many people have made the change to a “work at home” environment since the pandemic. The question is now, along with your videography, can you use talents you do have while sailing. “Sailing Delos” would probably be good to ask. Brian Trautman and his wife (who is Swedish) have been on You-Tube for 10 years sailing around the world aboard their 10+ year old Super Maramu ketch. Brian does all the work on the boat. They have a toddler who must be two years old now. As far as experience goes, I think he would be the one to ask.
Your videos are as good as travel videos get. I wish you nothing but success
I absolutely LOVE the fact that you outline your sailing strategy for us!!! You have a new follower! Fair winds, from the USA my friends!
These people seem really calm and together, and I like how each potentially disastrous situation is taken care of by thinking it through and looking at the camera saying "Well this might get interesting..."
You’re a very compelling storyteller. Whether you know it or not. I really enjoy tuning in to you and haven’t missed an episode for a year or so for that very reason. Keep going man. Legend 👍
I agree, the story telling is quite unique and on a high level! ❤
You have a great way of presenting your story, cool ways to film, and allow us to see places many of us can only dream of visiting - so a BIG thank you for sharing and sincerely all the best
Thanks for the great videos! Wishing both of you happiness and adventure in things to come.
The inside passage, with it's narrow channels and high tidal currents is not for the faint of heart. Have been smacked around pretty good during trips up and down it. If you want to read a good overview of it read "In The Wake of An Alaskan Mailboat". The skipper of that mailboat and the writer of the book are personal friends. You can also read "Cheechakos" and 'This Raw Land". It's all good practice for the Gulf of Alaska ahead. :-D
Thanks!
Wow, thanks a lot Lee!
Thank you for your wonderful channel, I really hope this works out for you on a full-time basis as well. All the best! Daniel
i know i'm very late but thanks so much!
It's hard to believe that Lumi is the same boat we saw when you found her, she looks amazing.
Good luck on your new position, if your video quality has been any kind of barometer, you are going do great things.
🌬🌊⛵
Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time. Please know that your videos are inspirational and that a lot of people need this right now. So thank you for the work you do and all the best at this turning point in your life.
Your videos are EXCELLENT. In purpose and content. Tom
Im a sailor and I love going places with you that I haven’t gone! You are unique! Thank you and I will be with you on many more!
Good luck with the new venture, I hope things work out well for you. I find your videos very interesting and always look out for the next one.
You guys seem like two people with nerves of steel . 👍🖐🍾
I admire such bravery the two if you exhibit. Watching you two is much like a scripted award winning movie. One minute there's beautiful cinematography, the next, it's edge of your seat drama. Well done you two!!
You're special and very capable. Highest Blessings on your journey into the unknown.
12k views in just 5 hours without booby-thumbnail ! That's success baby.
You offer so different, beautiful and quality content. Thank you ❤
Nice video, good to see some sailing in less than ideal conditions, and nice navigation skills - it is great when the electronics and spot-on and can assist in that situation.
The block failure was a "gift" not a failure. This hilights the reality of the fact that when you replace these parts you will be safer. Have a great day. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border.
i was stationed in the alautian islands, we where the only humans between japan and alaska, and we got several sail boats come in because of equipment failure, welcome to alaska birthplace of the winds.
Thanks so much for these videos. Your view has a sense of authenticity, when a thing is broken it is broken no questions, but the world doesn't come to an end. There is a real sense of coherence to your story line which carries me along. You are really lucky to have found Sohvi " she really likes light houses " So nice. Bon Voyage, will be waiting for the next one. Thanks again, Martin, NYC
Hello Juho,
Your videos are great, and for sailors and lovers of northern landscapes / adventures, it's absolutely unique, so keep on doing them. And don't worry about your future on YT or as a videographer, if you are documenting your Northwestpassage, it will create a lot of interest, even in nonsailors, i'm Sure!
From the little that I've seen (I've watched a few of your vids) you'll have an excellent career creating vids!!🎉
Your videos are exceptional. You will do very well in videography. Your channel is unique, and the two of you are loveable!
Everything differrent in your videos... I'm hooked.
Now you are ready for the Southern Ocean! The boat is fabulous!
Thank YOU for making videos of your adventure. You're one of my favourite channels.
Terrific videos. Your drone shots are always outstanding. I have no idea where you go from here, but I have no doubt you will pave a new way. Good luck to both of you.
Love following your journey! You are inspiring ❤
Hi Juho, you sharing about the end of your freelance job was in no way gloomy. I find your channel to be one of the most authentic and non commercialized out there (can’t hear about atlantic greens anymore). Plus a good sense of humor. Was anyway thinking about supporting you on Patreon and am doing it now. Keep the path you will do great.
I love your videos and you also have a prettiest sailing lady. Just love your synergy
Beautiful drone work... as per usual. Thrilling!
Oh boy do I appreciate this one a proper sailing channel too bad about the job. I,m sure you.ll survive it
A true sailing channel. Authentic.
Btw when in doubt about the gybe and not wanting to go on deck I have in the past, I had children aboard and never regretted this gybe, turned motor on and made the board turn the other way around. Making it tack, waves can be nasty, but it doesn't break things. Just bumpy.
Cheers.
Thank you for your exceptional videos. The latest, through that difficult passage was scary. I realise it’s a difficult period for you, but feel confident that your followers will support you. Best Wishes. Ken
The quality of your video uploads and the shear guts you guy have navigating these waters is amazing - love your videos .. soo inspiring.. thank you 🙏
Love the Arctic sailing with the beautiful snow ❄️ and you two taking to the white slopes ❄️👍🏻🇺🇸🙋🏼♀️
Pulling for your success as a full-time videographer!
Love your videos and content, just keep doing what you're doing, and you will make it happen. Quality channel, thanks :)
What a great video show In that narrow passage.
I hope that you find your way in order to keep sailing like no one else.
I am very impressed by your abilty....you are living my dream...best wishes for you both....I think you will succeed at whatever you decide to do.
I'm excited to see what you come up with in the future, your videos are always incredible.❤️
Consistency is key to you tube bro, try at least once a week... its obvious we like seeing you fix and make things better on ya boat. I think you should 100% jump head first into the videos 🤙
🤩⛵️Sensational shots in a fascinating world 👍🏽👏🏽... your job as a translator ... one door closes, however, others open ... you are experienced, serene enough 🍀🤞🏽... we celebrate you and share your channel of course, because you enrich the everyday life of very many people🌻
Your detailed explanations regarding the navigational challenges you face are what bring me back to your videos. The scenery is awesome , as well. You could try looking into translational services for medical centers, possibly. They contract with a company who you make yourself available to during certain times of the day. I used a service called ‘the language line’ many times while working. I don’t know what company owns it, but it is a possibility. I know it made my job doable. Best of luck to you!
What an interesting & unique story. I knew Finnish, Danish & Portuguese sailors were good, but to navigate the waterways around Alaska is insane. Very good navigation skills, especially considering there were no markers. And as lots of folks have said already, you do a great job of narration & sharing your story. Keep up the good work, share it on as many Social Media platforms as you can & you'll be able to make a living doing it. Lots of respect for you & look forward to seeing the next ones.
Thank you for being us your view of the world we live in. Keep it going and fair winds and clear sky's.
Thanks for all the expeditions you have taken us on . takecare.
I think you will do well. Your skills as a videographer are excellent and your productions are a real favourite of mine. Keep up the good work. 😊
I liked that parasailing ski trip that you uploaded, that was fun to watch.
I am thrilled to have found your channel and to subscribe. Thank you for these terrific videos. Fair winds and following seas , to you both.
Wow! Great video! Part One - the sailing proved you and Sophie have nerves of steel. Part Two thank you for sharing about your other jobs. Good luck to you both. I love your channel.
Great editing, camera work, and explanation of the cruising gybe. I will try to remember your instructions. :)
I would avoid gybing in that heavy of wind, or pull the main in even more. That was pretty unsafe.. I've seen a number of de-mastings from gybes like that in my time racing.
looks like a nasty time for fair weather sailors, just a good job you dont mind it. 2x👍👍
Thank you very much ❤😂
First of all thank you for this incredible footage ! I’ve seen so many tropical videos that all seem to run together. You have a unique spot on UA-cam and I can’t wait to see what you both do in the future. Keep pushing forward and best of luck you both , I know I’m following this journey not only because of the technical info but also the artistry in which it’s presented. Good luck to you both.
Look forward to seeing your new (and continuing) content! Cheers.
1:10 "...Only the top is frozen so it's not that cold yet." The understatement cracks me up. Easily the best sailing channel. Real sailors in sketchy conditions, not trust funders in the Bahamas in swimsuits. (Alright occasional swimsuits are fine, too.) 😎 Just got to the end part. Good luck with your new, full time job. It will be great! 😎
I totally agree. Gave up on the bikini contest sailors long ago.
Thanks for taking us along.
thanks you Gerald!
My sailboat is dry docked currently for repairs but I always enjoy being able to get time on the water sailing with the two of you! I really enjoy your videos...Safe travels😉⛵
Love your videos! Always listen with earbuds. Please pay attention to the beautiful sounds of sailing. I love the wind and waves and birds in your videos.
I wish you both luck, success, winds and always enough water below the keel!
In my opinion, by far this is your best video. The footage and the editing are amazing. Congratulations!!!
Agree. His awareness and description on local water conditions is fascinating.
Best video yet. Keep rolling along. Chatgpt will put translators out of work so leveraging your lifestyle makes sense!
Another episode full of amazing footage of sailing and scenery, you guys really raised the bar with this one well done !!
Keep up the good work with the videos Juho! May the sisu be with you!
This is one of my favorite sailing channels. I have really enjoyed you two being on the western coast of the USA. My home! I am excited for your new chapter and focusing on video! Wish I could of bought you two a coffee, I am close to the port of coos bay or Winchester bay in Oregon. I found your channel not long after your first few videos. I liked that it’s not all booty shots in bikinis. I also like that it’s not all tropical sailing since I live where the ocean is cold and challenging. I hope the states and Canada have treated you well and that you may make your way back some day.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a little of your day to day life on the boat and how you prepare for the longer passages. I do like the longer videos. Once a week would probably benefit the algorithm.
Thanks for the content
Red and green markers, known as ‘Junction Buoys’, indicate the intersection of two different channels. The colored stripe on top indicates the primary or preferred channel for navigation. Port-Junction Buoys (green on top with a red horizontal band in the middle) must be kept on the port side when heading upstream. Starboard-Junction Buoys (red on top and have a green horizontal band in the middle) must be kept on the starboard when you’re heading upstream.
During a 9 year circumnavigation, I utilized two separate preventer systems. First is a mid boom preventer/ downhaul attached to a mid boom bale leading to the toerail track with a 4/1 block purchase and a jam cleat on the deck end. Either have one setup on each side, or move the preventer after completion of the maneuver. As the boom moves towards the centerline just prior to the jib, control the boom as it passes thru the wind. Then re-prevent on the other side. Always in control comrade. The second preventer system is the typical end of boom preventer with a line leading from the boom end forward to a hawse hole and then leading back to a large cleat . This is in case we dip a pole end in boisterous seas. I just try to take care of the rig as well as possible, it’s a big ocean.
Best of luck with this new turn in your life, definitely one of the very best Sailing channels! Edit: Your end piece didn't sound gloomy, you looked quite pleased; I remember getting sacked, it felt like getting out of jail early (not that I have any experience on that front!)
Your content and scenic locations are unique among sailing channels. Most cruise channels choose tropical locations so the content can become repetive.
I'm looking forward to more vlogs and adventures!......
In big breezes, contemplate a "granny" tack instead of a gybe. Much less strain on the backstays and mainstream.
We would regularly granny the boat around when delivering short handed with running backstays. Fire the motor up for some upwind speed as you come up into the wind, tack then a controlled bear away.
I’ve never been on a boat but it’s a dream that took hold the last few months. I’ve been watching a few UA-camrs but I don’t like hot weather and I love snow and trees/ you are the only person who goes and sees the nature that I’d want to learn to sail to access. Your videos are beautiful - you are prob the best using a drone that’s I’ve ever seen- a video or so ago there was a shot of it snowing on the trees and it was amazing. Can’t do patreon right now but I ordered some merchandise and I hope you’re making videos full time and doing what you’re doing becomes self supportive. As far as what videos I’d like to see- I love ones where people stock up on food- what they eat, what is the budget/ how do you decide where you want to sail each year and what resources do you use to research the area. I was shocked you didn’t have hot water on the boat for shower/ what about laundry/trash/etc what is the schedule. I watched one your your skiing videos where you also did research and all I could think was what if one of you got injured skiing and you were so remote. Any fears? What are the highs? What moments make it worth it? Thank you
I will be 80 in July 24, and in my life I have found that when ever someone does me a bad turn, it looked bleak at the time but new adventures started each and every time, i just found your channel and binge watchef 'til past my bedtime, live long and prosper x
Truly amazing navigation skills, guys. I was as nervous as hell just watching your vid, so I can't imagine having been in your sea boots. Keep the video coming. And how about this for your new title - 'Adventurer extraordinaire'.
Love your videos
