- A down hill has a 10mph limit?
How hard can that be to follow?
Actually harder than you think, due to heavy brake use, trying to watch the road whilst also looking at the Garmin to see the speed.

It seems strange that narrowtwisty back lanes have 60mph limits for motor vehicles yet this infinitely less dangerous road has a 10mph limit for bicycles.🤔
I think that it might be a desire to lessen cycling, and make it less fun.🤔
The limit is 20, not 10.
Edit: I've checked and there ARE signs saying 10 but it is also more complicated ....
Looks nice there to slowly ride and enjoy the scenery, and so nice without cars which will be the norm one day when the madness of our modern life is changed to a slower normal enjoyable lifestyle.
Is this where the hilarious video of a dog owner screaming "Fenton! Fenton!" ?
Just looked it up. That video was from Richmond park, London.
Excuse my ignorance but what app /device gives you the %elevation and speed on the screen?
I think he uses Garmin.
It has been quite a while since I read what it is, but, again, I think it is Garmin.
It says in the description that he uses Garmin Edge 1030 or Wahoo Bolt GPS head units. GPS gives you lots of data, including gradient and speed. You can also get speed from a wheel sensor that communicates wirelessly with the head unit.
Is it a place where cars are prohibited, and why the 10mph limit? Was that limit imposed because of bicycles?
Cars are prohibited from that particular section of the park. I think there was a time when cars were allowed, hence the speed limit. But I believe there is no speed limit for bikes.
There is no 10mph limit
The whole thing is utterly bizarre... The speed limit in the park as a whole has been 20 mph for the last twenty or so years. Speed limits on UK roads apply only to motor vehicles, but cyclists have certainly been stopped in the past in the park for exceeding the 20 mph limit, some possibly even prosecuted. But Royal Parks finally admitted in 2021 that speed limits do not apply to bicycles. 2 years later they seemed to be "suggesting" that the speed limits in the park do apply to bicycles, and that cyclists exceeding the limits could be prosecuted "for recklessly endangering others."
The 10 mph limit on Broomfield Hill - which is closed to all motor vehicles, and has been seen at least since the covid lockdown - appeared last year. It seems completely pointless, and is universally ignored. I've yet to see any explanation that's even half-convincing for it. I did jokingly think that at least it wouldn't be a problem for cyclists going UP the hill. Until I checked my segment times on Strava. Now I'm an old git, and not very fast, but even my PR on the steepest segment UP Broomfield Hill averages just over 11 mph...
What is the point of this 10mph limit?
At the bottom, some clever person should open a kiosk selling brake pads.
i think it is because it is a public space park and if a child or a dog was to run out and get hit by a bike going flat out it could be painful or even deadly.... cycles are very quite and kids n dogs can be daft enough to be hurt... then the parent/owner would not be able to claim compensation as cycles in the uk are stupidly unregistered and insured.... 😊
There isn't a 10mph limit there but it used to be quite hairy if you were going down on a bike (fast) and there were cars coming up, because of the fairly sharp bend to the right.
@@peterwillson1355 I'm terribly confused. Why is Gaz trying to hold his speed down to 10mph? Couldn't see any bicycle speed limit signage so I thought it might be a Royal Edict or something like that.
I have absolutely no idea. There is no 10mph limit on that hill or on any part of the road in RP@@paulflory3532
@peterwilson1355 double check the speed limit sign on the right side of the barriers at the top of the hill ;)
