  • The 2020 Highlander is all new this year and they have done a great job updating one of their most important models. The styling is greatly improved inside and out. With the same power train as before, you can trust that your Highlander will be around for years to come.

    I bought a 2003 Highlander Limited AWD. I bought it used . Had under 10k miles on it. Now has 115k and absolutely no problems. Boring vehicle but they are reliable. It’s like grandmas SUV but it keeps going and going. Paint job just starting to go though but mechanically strong. Mechanic tells me they go 350k miles easily. They go so long you just get tired of them. What I save, goes in the bank , no car payments and reliable transportation. New ones look nice. Mine is short and boxy. Very simple design.

      drives and owns.. sure... but ... whatever review.. Let's here this GOOD REVIEW IN 5 YEARS.... It's like on Amazon, all those products receiving 5 stars after week of usage... I'm teasing here, but honest review is worthless at that PRELIMINARY stage.

      Zawaprz I don’t disagree but we need both. Those who are weighing their options and want to buy soon need some feedback *now*, not in 5 years.

      Zawaprz, I bought mine in part because of all the 10, 15 year old Highlander owners continually shouting it's greatness. One person I know has a 2007 Highlander with over 300K. Changed brake pads....once! The word has been out for awhile on these gems. Considering the near legendary praises of this car for years I'm confused as to why you're suspicious.

    Awesome video. It’s always great to hear from an owner. For the foot activated lift gate...for me with most vehicles it seems to work best with a slow but smooth foot under the bumper...if I do a quick or swipe left to right it doesn’t usually work. If it’s still not working for you possibly see if there’s a setting on the big screen under vehicle settings that has it turned off. Not sure.
    Glad to hear you like it so far! We drive an ‘04 Highlander and now my wife wants this one 😅

    Thanks for the review. We are going with a Limited rather than the Platinum because you can get it with the 2nd row 60/40 split folding seats (harder to find though). You can seat one more person because NOBODY wants to sit in the tiny 3rd row. And we have a medium size dog which sits behind us and the captains chairs have a big gap between the seats when folded so the dog can't ever lay down. On the downside I really like the panoramic moonroof and wish that was an option on the Limited. We had been shopping the Lexus RX 350 and the new Highlander feels and drives just like it for a lot less $$$.

    Hi, Keith. Correction: my 2017 Toyota Highlander Platinum has a heated steering wheel. I am surprised that yours didn’t. Great review. I completely agree with you regarding the limitations of the lane departure warning system. My 2017 has only 36K miles, so I think we will keep it a while, but it looks like they improved most things that needed improvement in the 2020.

    Last Toyota I owned was a 1977 Celica. I live in a hilly mountainous area in Maine. Terrible roads. Brutal winter's. Kept hearing everyone I know talk about their Highlander. The more I looked into them I liked them. Scotty's videos on Highlanders convinced me. We bought a 2017 Highlander Ltd. December 2019. Put about 8500 miles on it since. I feel pretty stupid not buying a Toyota since that Celica. I always wanted a 4 cylinder Tacoma with a 5 speed. This Highlander is just superb. The roads around here can dismantle trucks easily. This Highlander does quite well. It has 84K but ZERO rattles or squeeks. Deep snow? With the Michelin Defender's just outstanding! I'll just keep it short. This car has convinced me to buy only Toyota from now on. I mean it. I also like the stealthiness of this car. Just a simple 2 words on the tailgate. Handling is what I expected actually. Sometimes it telegraphs to you that you are driving a rather heavy and large SUV type vehicle. Mostly though, I'm really enjoying the overall comfortable driving experience it provides. Also a SAFE driving experience. It comes standard with the lane assistance and I have grown to really appreciate it. Very much so. I cross a center line or edge line in the road? I get a very subtle nudge in the steering and a beep. Warnings also if anyone is on your blind spot. Again, very much appreciated.
    My wife loves it. So do I. I'm 64 and it's the best crafted and all around best built car I've ever had. I'm in!

    I looked at a new 2021 with my wife a few days ago. It was solid and efficient. Pretty spacious. Looked at XLE. Thats trim we would Buy. Liked the faux leather like material. Rear window vision bothered me and the busy dash. I fret letting her 15 Forester go because I really like being behind wheel of it. I like that it has the same kind of panoramic moon roof. Pricy trim on Hylander to get that. I own a 15 manual Scion XB myself and it is a fun, spacious, simple, reliable car. Something refreshing about less features to me. The screen and gauge cluster was so overwhelming to me lol.

    I just purchased an 2020 Toyota highlander limited edition, after being with Ford for over 25 plus years. And I must say the vehicle is well worth the price. I did look at different models of vehicles from other automakers as well. And I honestly can say that Toyota has done a great job. The salesman wgi sold me the vehicle was very professional and there was no pressure at all. I have most of the features as the platinum with a few exceptions. I would advise anyone who's looking to buying a Toyota there are some videos how Toyota became the #1 car manufacturer in the world. You would be impressed.

    They moved the side view mirrors down to help keep the cabin quiet. Another reviewer spoke with the lead engineer, who confirmed that. By having the mirrors lower, the flow of air outside the car is redirected away from the cabin.

    Good to see an owner’s review...finally. Thx. You pointed out a lot of features I didn’t know and if the tech really works on this model. I didn’t even think about fingerprints on the display. Is the sound system still as awesome as previous models? I was also bummed on the rear glass entry too. I used it all the time. I am curious if you really like the HUD or is it just a nice thing. I’m personally on the fence whether to buy the Limited or the Platinum. On the foot control for the rear entry, its turned off by default. You have enable it in settings. Another thing to consider, if you put a trailer hitch on the Highlander, the foot control will not work as it hides the sensor. Bummed about that too as I like being able to use a bike carrier or rent a U-haul trailer to haul mulch. One nice thing toyota does is put the owner’s manual online. Its helping me become familiar with some of the features and limitations.

    Thanks for your casual review. I am also planning to get the Platinum but am waiting for the hybrid version come Spring. The “glazed caramel” interior is gorgeous. The talk is the reason Toyota got rid of the openable glass hatch was because some owners of previous Highlanders would not shut the glass hatch securely rendering the whole rear door inoperable as a Toyota safety measure. These owners would then always complain to Toyota thinking that their vehicle is faulty. As a previous owner of the 2nd gen Highlander, I will also miss that separate glass hatch once I get the new model!

    Check to see if the kick sensor is on for the rear hatch. It’s in the steering wheel/gauge meter controls. You also need the keys on you to activate the hatch and it’s a almost one second count to open it. Don’t swipe the leg. Put the leg near the bumper, almost wait a second and bring the leg back. Hope that helps if you haven’t figured it out.

    Great overview! When you say the vehicle "almost drives itself" I'd like a little bit more clarification as I do tons of highway travel and a great lane "centering" function is important to me. When you activate the "lane departure" does it kinda "ping.pong" or "drift" in-between the lane markings on the highway or does it drive very straight down the center of the lane? That's an important area to me, and the Hyundai and Kia competitors really drive very stable down the center, and they even take bends very accurately, staying in the absolute center of the lane. I know you are supposed to always keep your hands on the wheel, but an accurate lane centering vehicle really makes a big difference in driver fatigue. Best of luck with your beautiful new vehicle!

    • @triggerhappyreviews
      @triggerhappyreviews  4 роки тому

      So I can’t speak on how it compares to Kia and Hyundai but I can compare it to Volvo’s system since I have experience with that. It does well at keeping you in the middle of the lane on straight roads. It does tend to hug the outside of turns. I have had one instance where it jerked hard right for seemingly no reason. Overall I’m quite happy with it.

I was impressed with noise levels over Hyundai Pallasade that in contrast disappointed me in regard to noise levels... Having currently Sienna 2011 aiming to get this Hybrid toward the end of this year...... or another 2021 redesigned Sienna. Will see. Big point for SUV is NOISE LEVEL. We owe Volvo S60 R-Design so I know what is quiet car. Only Limited and Platinum have beside standard front windshield also side windows special for lowering noise levels. Can’t adjust the passenger seat height, which I found annoying. Also can’t tell what temp you’re set to unless you have part of the screen showing climate controls.

    Nice review. I've been looking for an honest review of this vehicle. Don't understand why you like the Tundra, though. I've had every truck in my many years, and the Tundra would be my last choice. GMC's and Rams are my favorites. Thanks for the info.

    • @triggerhappyreviews

      Tundra has issues like poor fuel economy and dated features but it never lets you down and holds value more than any other full size truck.

    The 4runner does a have a sliding second row only with the 3rd row models it actually helps to give the 3rd passengers some more leg room.

    • @triggerhappyreviews
      @triggerhappyreviews  4 роки тому

      I owned a 2014 4runner with a third row and the legroom was pretty poor. The seats only moved forward to let passengers in the back. Have they updated this?

    • @arislopes1924
      @arislopes1924 4 роки тому

      Trigger Happy I have a 2016 model and no is still the same amount of space and the seats are really cramped but there should be a bar under the second row of seats to move the seats back and forward.
