I remember playing this game when I was a kid on the Sega Genesis. I was only maybe 6 or 7 at the time. The game was a bit of a challenge at the time for me so I was only able to get up to the second last level in the jungles/dinosaur era. Good to see this in its entirety now that I'm playing Strider on PS4.
I am very impressed - mastered this game when I got it on Genesis. I even learned one new trick @ 8:36 . Didn't occur to me to jump over the laser, I think I used slide to go from left to right while slashing. Well done ! I would play through more slowly sometimes just to get the Robo Panther which sadly doesn't come about easily. That thing will mash through everything for you if you let it hahahaha.
@TheConnyB > There was a gas station across from my school when i was in junior high, and they had this game...so, I remember having some days being late as well. I would play it everyday, and when it came out on Genesis I played it more. I never got tired of it lol!
Didn't give this game a real chance either, but 24 years later after playing it enough you see why people loved it that much. I wouldn't claim it to be "best ever," but definitely up high on the greatness chain. After Street Fighter and Resident Evil...this was one of Capcom's top games ever.
What always impresses me in these runs (and the long playthroughs) is how they get Strider to actually jump where they want. He sort of does an auto-parkour for me constantly. I want to jump straight up in the air? He jumps 50 ft to the left or right. I want to jump to the left? He jumps straight into the air and grabs a roof, and then pulls himself up to get hit by an enemy when I only hit B.
This game! :D when I was a kid I remember i could complete it so fast, I remember i counted 30..40 times in a day, if only I knew speed running then, it would be interesting.
When I was a kid I once completed this 32 times in a row or so.. if only recorded, maybe it could had been a record :D.. when i try today.. not so easy... Thx for video.
kween1thang same here, played this hundreds of times growing up and never had that happen. p.s. fighting that guy without the sword extension = pissed off and throwing controller.
damn ! I played this all the way through before & got it on VHS tape.. but that was so long ago I'm sure the tape has already disintegrated in a land fill by now. lol A complete play through with no loss of lives but I think it took me like 15 mins.
If you have a copy of Altered Beast also you can get unlimited lives. Just take Altered Beast out of the Genesis once it gets to the title screen without hitting the power and then put in Strider and hit reset. Boom! Infinite lives. Your Welcome.
that makes sense....I guess cause it had really fluid controls at the time too....and good for speed runs...you sort of had to stand and fight in golden axe and streets of rage.
Have you done it on the Genesis version? It glitches the next area completely and if you don't know the route you're just gonna die and lose a lot of time.
I could never get into this game....id play it for ten minutes and then turn on streets of rage 2 or golden axe 2....they had different characters and moves and things to ride and multiplayer....this had...well none of those things. I just dont understand the appeal at all. why is this supposedly the best game ever?
trickykid3000 It's an older Genesis title with good grfx for it's time. It also has interesting platforming elements and a Soviet politician mechanical communist centipede....
No matter how many times I played, it always felt like it was making it up as it went along. Music was bangin
Absolutely! There is a heavy whatever-ness about it. But it worked. I think everyone I know beat this the first day they played it
This game is so well translated to the genesis system, it’s one of the few games that really shut Super Nintendo the f*ck up.
This game was super expensive, but well worth it. The graphics and interesting gameplay were way ahead of it's time.
It was the reason why I wanted a Genesis.

NOSTALGIA. Especially that snow level music
this is hands down one of my all time favorite video games... not just for the genesis but ALL TIME!!
Amazing. This is faster than a review of the game.
It took me some hours to finish what you showed me could be faster than anything I'd ever imagined.

Must've put out $50 in quarters for this game back in the arcade. Seeing it played here like a boss - most refreshing.

I absolutely loved this game to no end, I thought his sword was so cool and how he could climb and hang from surfaces.
I remember when I FIRST saw this in the arcade. i was blown away!!!!! a perfect game. graphics, sound, challenge, gameplay.
The MechaKong killed me.
This game had amazing graphics and game play to match any current gen game.
I remember begging my dad for the 79bucks to buy this title.......lol....good lawd thats a lot of money.
This game was before it's time, when it came out. Nostalgia.
Wow. Not bad! The sound is pretty faithful to the original arcade version.
one of the first games i played when I was little...i remember it being so hard lol.

I don't remember this game looking that easy
Gadgetbig I don't remember that sword being so bent...ish.

MirkWoot at that time we had lots of time but few games; now it is the oposite: we have lots of games but "few" time.
love how the screen goes black at 2:30- mad nostalgia

I like the sound made by the cypher
boy was this a long time ago.
one of the first games i played

its lot better then the nintendo version
Wow, I used to love this game.

Creepy and strange game which was the best at its time!
Jump and sweeper buttons are continuous. Good play, but you has used a Turbo Joystick function.
that makes sense....I guess cause it had really fluid controls at the time too....and good for speed runs...you sort of had to stand and fight in golden axe and streets of rage.
You don't fuck with the puck you, hey?!
thanks. i played this before but it was so hard for me i didnt complete it. ;p
merciful Lord.....i could only get to second stage of this as a kid :D
there are many ways to feel dumb, but one of the worst is watching these game speedruns. i feel like i have the gaming skills of an orangutan
Compare the length of this guys sword to the ninja gaiden or shinobi games... it makes this game look so easy lol
Those poor amazons
and now they are making a re-make :0
amazing.. like!
The whole game is much harder than the final boss. WTF
day9 brought me here
im sorry I play this still on the gen and I've never seen what happened at 2:24 ever... nice run in general though
moon divers roots lol
Does anybody know the name of the game music that starts at 7:03??
You'll find it on UA-cam under Theme For Counterattack.
Still a great game.
More unreal impossible stuff. Speed run chakan the forever man for me. That game was and bs at the same time.
I can't believe you didn't skip the first boss in stage one...
Have you done it on the Genesis version? It glitches the next area completely and if you don't know the route you're just gonna die and lose a lot of time.
You mean the wrestler dude? You can't skip it in the Genesis version.
5:25 and someone definitely got fired for that one - a peg-leg hook-handed pirate :-\
this just turned into earthworm jim or something.
can you link me to the rom?
hmm you played on an emulator but didn't use cheats, it would probably be eaisier with a genises

This game is kind of shitty.
It got amazing reviews and game of the year. You're an idiot.
