  • Leica is not looking to be the first to the line; they will never seek to compete. Adored, and in some eyes, seen as the purest form of image-making in the land. With a Leica camera, you work for every shot, which makes the perfect shot ever more rewarding.
    Leica just made this all even better with the Leica M10-R. Don't believe us... watch our short video and let us know.

    Thank you. I have the M10-R, and I agree with you, it is a great camera. I've thought about trading it in on an M11, but the nearest Leica store in Rancho Mirage, CA wouldn't give me what I thought my M10-R was worth. They weren't close. Plus, I like having the traditional removable base plate - which the M11 doesn't have. Unless the M12 is truly remarkable, I'll have my M10-R until I die.

    Over the years have had moved my religion from Canon, to Sony, bought Leica M lens for my Sony A9 what made me finally settled with Leica M system plus SL2 only for Noctilux, Leica is all about simplicity and the fun of photography .

    That's a great and honest review, Luke! As a FUJI X-T3 shooter, I've recently been bitten by the Leica bug because of a Q2 purchase. Now I'm seriously thinking about going that extra step!

    • @uclasuzuki

      Yes, Dan. I sympathize to your symptoms. I got a serious bite too. A Danish Leica photographer has already predicted it.
      Next symptoms I have now is the mind-occupying about lenses. It is fun though.
      Cheers!!

      Did you decide to go to next step?? I also had an X-T3, then Q2, then SL2-s.. It's a slippery slope, but it is a lot of fun as Shuichi said.

      @@garyrobinson3 Hi Gary - Yes, I did eventually buy into the M system with an M10-R, and some Summilux lenses (35/50mm). It certainly curtails all the GAS I used to have as a Fujifilm user, where new models are released semi annually!

      @@dhaug Congratulations! You've made an excellent choice and that's top notch glass that you have with the M10-R. Ironically, I actually just bought a silver chrome M10-R second hand with less that 600 shots on it (open box) for a great deal. However, considering that my main subjects (a 2 and 4yr old) are always running around I'm thinking of keeping my SL2-S and selling the Q2, which is really hard because I've enjoyed the Q2 so much, but after visiting Leica stores (LA and DC) multiple times and testing the M11, M10-R, M10 Mono, M Mono (246), I couldn't resist the temptation to go full M. Especially, considering that I already have a couple M lenses (90mm f/2 Leitz, and 50mm f2 APO-lanthar Voigtlander). These are first-world problems for sure, but it sure is tough to sell the Q2 considering that it's basically a lens with a "free" body...

      @@garyrobinson3 Congratulations on the M10-R! Though definitely a challenge to use when photographing fast moving subjects like kids and pets, it's such a joy to shoot with otherwise. Very wise to keep the SL2-S in this case. That said, the Q2 is a perfect EDC camera, which joins me on trips abroad. So compact and the resolution with that 28mm 'Lux is phenomenal. Happy shooting!

    I have the M10 Monochrom and already have problems with highlight clipping, underexposing 0.7, so find your overexposing recommendation surprising. Maybe the sensor works differently in colour. I am thinking about the M10 R, thanks for your review

    Most cameras have zillions of useless features as well as some useful features,flimsy plastic doors to get to the battery and the whole photography experience leaves me empty.
    But with my leica i always want to take it out and use it,with its simple manual controls and spartan menu its just a joy to use and the results are great for me.
    Its nice to have one camera thats not the same as all the rest.

    Hi, great video but I must jump to the defence of the solid baseplate. In my opinion this is far stronger than any design that incorporates a hinged door, many of which are plastic. Yes it is mildly inconvenient to take an L bracket or similar off to access the battery or card but I prefer the greater srength of a soild base. As a pure landscape photographer, my camera lives on a tripod.

      Ease of use isn't really why people buy a Leica anyway.

    • @JohnRicard
      @JohnRicard 3 роки тому

      There needs to be a setting that says if the baseplate is not on, the camera will still fire. It's a bad design when you could lose the baseplate, and no longer be able to shoot. I once dropped the baseplate and dented it. The baseplate would no longer connect to the camera, and the camera therefore could not take photos.

      @@JohnRicard, every Leica M since 1953 has had a removable base plate. Since reading your comment I've been extra careful NOT to drop my base plate. Thanks. I'd be happy if the Leica M12 comes with a removable base plate.

    Great style for a review Luke, really enjoyed it, many thanks! If I may make a suggestion, your video camera (a Fuji you said?) kept jumping between your face and the Leica, I am guessing because you were using a very shallow depth of field, and the Leica placement in the frame fell just on top of the 1/3 line (rule of thirds implemented in the AF), and your head more or less on top of the other 1/3 line. Fuji's are known to have goofy AF in these borderline conditions. So maybe one idea would be to use a deeper depth of field (but not so deep that your whole background comes in focus, that would be distracting - you can experiment) and then maybe change the placement of the camera and your head (if you want to keep the same overall composition) and move them slightly nearer the center of the frame. Maybe a change in the aperture/depth of field and a change to manual focus on the video camera could solve this. Thanks again!

    Let's be honest. You are buying a feeling and a concept. Nothing wrong about that. If it makes you feel happy with this Leica, no problem. You don't harm anyone. For a fraction of the money, your succesrate with making photographs are better guaranteed with camera's that use supporting modern technology.

    The ISO dial is a million times better than the M Typ 240 that you need to press and hold the ISO button and move the rear control dial to change.
    The best lens IMO is the Leica 35mm f2 ASPH. Small and great. For ultimate sharpness, the Zeiss ZM are extremely sharp. I'm waiting for my M10-R to arrive maybe in a a week or two to replace the M Typ 240.

    • @JohnRicard
      @JohnRicard 3 роки тому

      I love the M10 ISO dial, but the M9 version was really cool because you only had to learn the position of the indicator to know what ISO you were set at. You didn't have to actually read the number like you do on an M240. I know that doesn't make sense when you read it, but if you try setting the ISO on the M9 and then the M240 you'll understand what I'm trying to say about the M9 version being faster to set and faster to see what ISO you're setting.

    Please slow down that’s the essence of the Leica ( iso and battery replacement issue???) SPEED SPEED always speed when you slow down you probably making better photographs❗️

    • @JohnRicard
      @JohnRicard 3 роки тому

      That is a misconception. Google Leica ads for their film cameras. You will find the word "speed" on virtually every ad. Lecias were intended to be faster than their DSLR counterparts. The only reason we see Leicas as slow cameras today is because they haven't put fast processors in the cameras and most Leica M cameras only shoot around 10 shots before the buffer is filled. But to say Leica Ms were DESIGNED to be slow is simply not true. In the comic book world, that would be known as a retcon. It's a re-writing of history.
