Also best album ever (One Size fits all)I actually saw Zappa at the Armadillo HQ's in Austin Texas mid 70s. Someone called a bomb- threat (absolute truth) and mid-song Zappa snapped his fingers and the music stopped dead right in the middle of a sax solo.We all thought Zappa was joking but he finely convinced all of us to leave the building. After around 1 1/2 hrs the police left and we all filed back in.Zappa snapped his fingers and they started on the same saxaphone note that they left off at.
After watching this, that is exactly what I was thinking. One in a million. She lives in LA and is retired and teaches kids music to kids who would not otherwise be able to afford lessons. Good person 120%
What is infinitely desirable and equally commendable is Zappa's ability to ensure that what was created in the studio can be faithfully reproduced in a live set.
No. This performance was the basic track for the One Size Fits All album. This exact performance, with the guitar solo edited in from the Helsinki performance a month later. globalia.net/donlope/fz/lyrics/One_Size_Fits_All.html#Inca What was amazing was how Zappa could take live performance and make it sound like a studio recording.
I saw Frank Zappa & the Mothers around 1969 at the Atlantic City Rock Festival in NJ. Get this for crazy: on the same bill was Canned Heat, Janis Joplin and LITTLE RICHARD!
to those wondering, this version was recorded before they had the solo. The album version spliced this recording with a later recorded solo, plus some overdubs they did later in the studio.
Love Chester's drumming, Ruth's mallet playing, George Duke, Napoleon (good gosh) Frank and all the rest. I can't even believe they did that. I have no idea where it is coming from. Well of course Frank. It's just beautiful.
If any of the commenters below are still wondering, the full live version which includes the same guitar solo heard on the One Size Fits All studio version is found on You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 2 - As was stated in the gatefold notes of One Size Fits All the guitar solo was recorded live in Helsinki Finland. - Well that show was finally released as YCDTOSA Vol. 2 - the solo on the live recording is longer than what was presented on OSFA and the sound is rougher so apparently he took it into the studio, edited some out and cleaned the sound up some, then re-recorded the main body of the song in the studio then inserted the solo into that. It's pretty clear to hear that at the very least most of the other instrumentation in the OSFA version is newly recorded and not from the Helsinki concert, only the guitar solo is. I hope that's clear, I'm not good at writing explanations but you need OSFA and YCDTOSA Vol. 2 and your questions will be answered lol
The song wasn't rerecorded, or performed in the studio. The video we're commenting on now, although edited, is the actual performance used on OSFA, with the guitar solo from Helsinki, as you mentioned. globalia.net/donlope/fz/lyrics/One_Size_Fits_All.html#Inca Zappa's brilliant editing skills in the studio was how he made live recordings sound like studio recordings.
The other posts of this song have "clay & noise interference" over the entire end portion of this amazing perfromance. Thanks a zillion for this "fully Ruthed" version.
Met Napy (Murphy Brock) in O.B. ca at a gig he was doing with Project Object..W /Ike W and don Preston.. Napoleon was totally chill, we chatted for about ten minutes in the rain..It was a bit surreal..He's very cool head.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me where I can find the full, unedited version of this live performance? I've been looking for this for what seems like forever. The other version I found has some cool animation, but I would really like to have the complete piece with exclusively the band's performance.

Great story - and they were so good I have no problem believing it. Tightest band I ever saw in my life.
Ruth Underwood. Simply amazing.

A few years back, I saw a live performance of this with (among others) Napoleon and Don Preston playing George Duke's parts and it was pretty amazing.
On Ruth, the Truth!
RIP George Duke
@@s.frescura4236 that's right, he never did take a rest, no reason to start now.
This is the best thing on the internet but it is cut off and too short and that makes me very sad.

Imagine being the child of Ruth and Ian Underwood. How full of music would your world be?
I was named after Ian Underwood, and mine is pretty damn full.
I would have been happy if I had lived when zappa was still playing.. and have a jam with him.

george duke!
I'm glad he cut out the claymation sequence, I hate it, I am hoping you can find the video A Token of His Extreme with no claymation
Who the heck cut out Duke's solo?!?!?!?!
Why edit out the guitar solo at 2:33?
why is part of it cut out?
Somebody know what are all the " chester thing on ruth" parts of the lyrics about?.
PD: This song is amazing. I love it.
yeah they cut out the best parts
Why was this edited?

Complication for complication' sake.

Man, if it helps you, i will donate any of my limbs. I will sell my Gibson Flying V, my wife, my bike and my soul.

And a booger bear is really ugly.
